Book your next event with us
We really loved everything about the restaurant. The ambiance was great.....very warm and rustic. The two ahi tuna dinner and appetizers and clam chowder were excellent. We will definitely come baack if we are in the area.
Nothing impressive about this visit, just OK. Started with waiter apologizing for the wait to take drink orders, but did not get as bad as it seemed it would after first couple missteps. Told waiter i didn't like the way this visit was headed and he stepped up to provide attentive service and saved the meal.
Loved the food. Cocktails are freshly made with real ingredients. The French bread is the best.
Celebrating sons birthday with family. The food was good and portions decent. Service could have been better as it took longer than normal to get our main course. It was noisier than usual as there was a large group next to us.
I don't have anything bad to say everything was good the service the food it was expensive but it was worth the prices I'm definitely going back
Overall always a solid choice, food is always 8+, but on this night wait staff seemed to be overloaded with too many tables. Waitress was moving all over restaurant taking multiple orders. Didn’t seem well staffed. Good value. Good ambiance. Always clean and low noise level. Food is always good. Shrimp kisses are always a hit.
We loved that they had such a comprehensive child's menu. It pleased all the kids at the table.
As per our server, it was her 1st day. And although she was nice and friendly... she was slow and clearly new. overall, we will dine there again, but wish the next visit could be of a high quality of service. Also, was sure if you offered parking validation for city parking lots. Thanks, Curt
Pass. Horrible service, poor food quality
I made my reservation for my boyfriend and I about a month in advance, requesting that they printed a note on the menu saying happy birthday to my boyfriend. I called the day before my reservation confirming they had received the note and they confirmed that everything was ready to go. When I arrived for my reservation, however, the menus were not printed with the note so I could not surprise my boyfriend and they failed to do anything about it when I complained. I specifically mentioned to my server that we were celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday so the dessert should have been free but it was charged on my bill. The food was very delicious but the service was quite disappointing in that sense.
Super mediocre meal and for the money expected much much more. Blah meal, blah app, wine was good. $150.00 for 2 people and we had salads. M&S is not the place it used to be but seems like a tourist trap for unsuspecting business travelers.
Great service, awesome food. We will be back.
Poor attention through the whole dinner. Long waiting time to get a beer or water. Some dishes where not at all tasty or had a nice look. The sorbet deep was frozen. A sweaty dishwasher with black gloves was clearing the tables. Very surprised over the poor quality all over for a restaurant situated in the center of San José.
First time visiting for lunch. My husband ordered a BLT, but the cooks completely left off the bacon--couldn't believe that. Since we were with a guest and deep in conversation, nothing was said to the waiter--he didn't want to cause an embarrassing situation.
Please tell the cooks to make sure their future BLT orders include bacon.
Everyone’s fish was over cooked and dry. We had 4 different entrees and we all said we would never return. Waitress kept forgetting things, like 2 cocktails because she forget to order the rest. Terrible experience!
They have great specials. My Mom and I went and the food was really good. The service was excellent. Our server was very attentive.
Perfect service and delicious food
Fantastic experience. The food was divine, the service exceptional and we were there early evening so noise level was minimum.
Rockfish and filet were the entrees followed by a mouse and berry desert.
Our first time at McCormick & Schmick's in San Jose and we definitely enjoyed the food. Ordered a couple of margaritas, have to say they were really delicious! I think a bit pricey but being where it is located, I understand. I would definitely go back again.
After we got our food we had to return it because both dinners were cold. After getting them back they were hotter but one was still incomplete. Our server seemed to do everything she could and even brought the manager on duty over. He picked up the tab on one of the dinners and seemed genuinely concerned.
My daughter and I wanted a nice seafood dinner before seeing a show. Not terribly busy for a Friday night (there were empty tables. In fact, we had no problem pushing our reservation time back after we got a late start. Our server was great (knowledgeable, helpful, friendly) but we felt somewhat ignored (we had to ask for bread, refills, etc.). My Old Fashioned was watered down. My daughter’s fish & chips tasted funny to her. As far as dinners go, it was fine. We’ve had much worse. It was an average experience—a somewhat overpriced average experience.
I love M&S! The food selection is great as well as the service. My sister and I had the steak medallions with spinach and mushrooms. We shared a side of mashies. We finished with creme brûlée. All good! Oh and the hot bread is divine! ♥️
We have dined at M&S several times over the years. Parking is close by at the downtown San Jose location so no problem getting there. This visit the service was excellent and the food was just ok.
My wife had the seared tuna which was a little less seared than she preferred so they sent it back to the kitchen for us and it cam back a bit more seared than she liked, but she was pleased overall. The wasabe mashed potatoes under the tuna was definitely a hit.
I had the crab/shrimp cakes and they were so so. In truth, I am from Maryland and consider myself a rather good crab cake chef so there is probably a bit of bias. More filler than I think is appropriate but the flavor was pretty good. One of our guests had the same dish and seemed to like it ok.
Our other guest had a ribeye and was busy eating and not talking so 4 stars for the ribeye.
We ordered fried Calamari as an appetizer for the table and everyone enjoyed it. Nice dipping sauces. The ladies had creme brulee for dessert and it was a hit. Hard to mess up creme brulee.
Server was wonderful and food was great!
My friends and I sat outside on the patio. The view is lovely and peaceful. The lobster salad was very good and my friends like the shrimp and crab sandwich and the chopped shrimp salad. The service was also good. I would go back there again.
Very good lunch this afternoon. Started with our usual, the lobster bisque. Excellent as always! My wife enjoyed her salmon and I the filet Mignon. Excellent selection of wines by the glass. Thank you preservation technology! Good service.
waiting for a table has been a huge problem eventhough plenty of tables.
Have to find a better way to seat customers who have reservations
Great drinks. Hands down some of the best. Food was okay.
Had reservations but still had to wait even though empty tables. Then had to wait 15 mins just to get anyone to come to table to take drink order. Ended up ordering everything since we waited so long.
Bread came to table cut like a kid cut it in pieces. Waitress was slow with everything and forgot someone had requested bread with their meal.
Food was average which was surprising since the prices were outrageous and portion sizes were tiny and of course sides were extra.
Expected a lot more for the price.
The four of us were seated on the patio for 7:45 reservation. Sat there for approx 10 minutes without a server approaching us. My husband had to waved down a server. He was very apologetic and took our drink orders. He then came back told us our real server would be with us in a moment. A few minutes later she approached and asked to take our drink order. We then told her the first server had already taken the order. She said she would go check. She returned and said she was not our server and Greg would be our server and would be out to us soon. Greg came out a few minutes later and asked to take our drink order. We then explained we had given the order to the first server. He then went in to check on our drinks. We had been there about 25 minutes when we received our drinks. Food order was taken at that time. Received our appetizers in a timely matter. Our main dishes took 45 minutes to arrive at the table. My sea bass was raw. My friend was told she would get 2-3 scallops to substitute for the salmon she did not want. She received one scallop and her food was cold. Overall the food was flavorful. Greg apologized and we knew this was not his fault but felt the manager should know. I was offered another sea bass but I shared my husband meal because I was hungry and wasn't willing to wait, who knows how long, for another sea bass. Manger came to our table, we told him about the food and service. First thing he said , All of our other tables were perfect tonight but your table. Not sure how to take that comment. He wasn't forth coming with compensation/apology/solution. He continued to speak about how great the food and service was at every table but ours. He offered free dessert. Didn't even offer to taken the sea bass off the bill, I had to tell him I wanted it taken off. We did get the free dessert and drinks. Our dinner took 4 hours.
The level of service was a complete disappointment. Any 70 year old diner waitress would know how to wait tables better than the bar and dining staff did.
Good overall. Good food
I ask about the Salmon- wild or farmed, fresh or frozen- I was told fresh “wild/sustainable “ hummm—- it was dry and tasteless-
We were doing dinner before a show and informed the waiter of our time constraints - no problem he said. We have eaten here several times and this was the worst service we’ve ever had. Everything was slow - drinks and food and no follow up to see how we were doing. Difficult to get waiters attention. The kitchen was also slow. By the time the food arrived we only had 10 mins to eat. My entree came 5 mins after everyone else’s and my husbands salmon was over cooked. This is a convenient location downtown and the food is good but was disappointed this time.
Good but not great food. Service was great.
We enjoyed two different ahi tuna entrees. The special was better, seared Asian style.
We arrived and were seated quickly. Unfortunately it was really hot and it felt like they did not have the AC on. We had to ask them to turn it on. The service was not that great. We had to wait about 10 min to get out drink order in. The regular drinks came quickly and I think the waiter forgot about the bar drinks - I had to ask fir them when they brought out the apps(5 min after we ordered them). We had to wait quite a while to get our entree order taken. It may have thrown the waiter off when we told him we did not want to order our apps and entrees at the same time. We finally got our good and it was good. For the price I thought it should have wowed us.
Great meal and service for late lunch. Steaks were cooked perfectly.
