McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - San Jose Ratings and Reviews
Probably the most pricey meal we've had in ages; you do need to be ready for that! The food was good, but it wasn't so good I'm dying to return immediately. I was a wee bit surprised that while my husband was eating the waiter reached right in front of him without even a "pardon me".
We love eating at M & S. Waiter was attentive but not pushy, that is great. The people that greet you were very nice but totally uninterested maybe even bored. Not a good beginning. We tried to reserve the private room and no one seemed to know anything about it. It is rather minor but I'd like to know yes or No on the private room and even a suggested change in plans if necessary.
We will be back!
When I made reservation I asked for round table. Didn't get it. Restaurant fairly empty yet they set up two table in middle and it was crowded in terms of being too close to other booths as it was angled and no need to be Usually food is better- I generally order same dish- trout with almond crust. It was overdone and too fishy
Service good, they brought birthday dessert which was great as I only mentioned it on my reservation
Service was timely and polite. Waiter had good knowledge of the menu and specials.
The food was cooked precisely and the sefood was fresh. The Calamari appetizer was
very good. (not too well done) We had a bottle of white wine from Southern Oregon
that was superb.
Most everything about our Father's Day dinner was good. Our waitperson was reasonably attentive, without being overbearing. However, she did forget a request to substitute a vegetable. Once noted, she very quickly brought the vegetable as a side dish. It was really a very minor issue.
The food was good to very good, but the Au Gratin Potatoes were pretty bland. Not what we usually expect at this restaurant. We will be back again.
We had a table of 8 on Father's Day. The service was inconsistent, sometimes being very attentive, other times disappearing for quite some time and required flagging down for help. My sister's salad, while delicious, was not brought until after the entrees were served. My 90 year old grandfather was the last to be served his entree after a 5-10 minute wait behind everyone else and he even ordered the Father's Day menu. When my uncle, also a father, asked if he could substitute the dessert that came with the menu they told him no, but then brought something different than advertised because they had run out of the chocolate creme brulee. Inconsistent service and attention to detail = 2 star rating. Wish it had been a little better.
I was very pleased with the table we received. I'd asked for a round table for 7, and not only was it povided, but it was in it's own private alcove. Service was very scketchy. I think our waitress was new, she tried hard, but just didn't quite measure up to the quality expected. I'm certain she will overcome that with more experience.
Keeping in mind that this was a slow Saturday afternoon, we were promptly seated, regularly attended to by the waitress, and quickly received our appetizer, main course, and dessert orders. The food was well prepared: the sirloin steak was juicy despite being medium well instead of the medium that was ordered; the shrimp were cooked perfectly, as was the salmon, mahi mahi, crab and oysters. I cannot speak to the quality of the establishment under truly busy conditions. Be prepared; our group of six paid $300 after tax and standard tip for what, at this restaurant, was standard fare.
Service wasn't really consistent. It our server awhile to show up to greet us. He was also absent once he took our orders and it took awhile for anyone to notice our water glasses needed to be filled, consistently. Our meals were good. Some of the guests were surprised at the preparation of some of the fish dishes and one of my family members sent her food back because the fish was undercooked. It also took a long time for the food to come, about an hour...which did not leave room for us to consider dessert as we had to leave for our event.
This was my first visit to this restaurant. Our waitress was a tad unfriendly. Soup got served without a spoon, drinks got yanked away without a word for refilling, etc. May have caught her on a bad day. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. Portions were quite small. I may have been expecting too much. You can easily find better food for half the price in San Jose.
Great food as I remember it. The seafood was well cooked and and fresh. The mussels were fantastic. Our server was very helpful and was a total pro. She did a great job. The only reason I didn't give the food 5 stars was I had to send my drink back to be shaken again (it wasn't cold) and we weren't overly impressed with our garlic mashed potatoes side.
All in all it was good. When we first arrived and seated we waited several minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. When the waiter finally appeared we had to ask for water. (and through out the meal we we often out of water) Our server was good, but it seemed as if he had too many tables, so ordering and getting our food took longer than I like. The buss service seemed non existent. When we left I had to track down the host to get our validation.
This is a favorite place of ours. We had dinner there on a Wed. night. Generally the food is exceptional. The trout appetizer was probably the best we have ever had. Our service could not have been better. I had the chipotle salmon which was served very hot. My husband had the fish trio which was excellent.
