McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - San Jose Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time at this location. From the moment we walked in (no host or hostess visible for at least 7-10 min) a server walked up with another server who attempted to help us. Manager walks up and pushes the server away to assist. Let's me know it will be a few minutes and walks away. We set down at a high top in bar area, server who tried to help us takes us to a table against a wall with 0 view. I was not a walk in, I was a guest with a reservation with notes about a booth in which when I looked around there were 3 open at the time. The visit proceeded to go downhill from there. The server asked us for our drinks, walks away. Returns 10 minutes later and asks if we are ready to order. No drinks other than water. We proceed to ask if there are any specials. She says no, everything is on the menu. We order. 20 minutes later (yes we timed this) out comes our drinks. At this time we look around at tables who walked in around our time frame or after. They have appetizers down and drinks. We sit with dirty dishes on our table 15 minutes later out comes the salad one of us ordered. We are informed the bisque for the lady will be out in a few. 7 minutes later comes clam chowder which we did not order. We inform the nice lady who brought our food and she returned with the bisque. We wait, with dirty dishes in front of us, and look up in the kitchen to see if we can find our waitress. We see a manager stuffing his face with bread on the service line. This is the same manager who pushed this female server aside earlier. Finally after 25 more minutes our dinner comes out. Plates are extremely hot, food was wayy overcooked. From the crab cakes to the Wahoo Ono. We had to ask to have our food boxed because we were so frustrated at the timing of everything. Our server nicely took our food away and the next minute we look up she's at 3 other tables and no food. We had to ask for the check, still no food. Finally when we pay after another 15 minutes, we get our food.
This is a cool spot. Stopped here for dinner before going to Christmas in the Park. The calamari was excellent; had hot peppers and artichoke with the squid. I had the Sea Bass. Broth was superb, fish could have had a crispier sear but hey, its sea bass and you can't go wrong. Wife had the scallops and they were excellent as well. The bacon, corn relish was smokey and was a perfect accompaniment . Nice, classy place.
Our waitress was wonderful but overwhelmed. She was left alone with no only our party of 15 but another large group. She didn't have any help with serving drinks or meals. Our meals were gold when received - again oiur waitress was fabulous. It took a very loing time to get our food and drinks.
We had our annual Christmas luncheon at the restaurant and it was a wonderful experience.
We had attentive service and beautifully plated food. Everything was delicious and we all intend to come back for another visit. I think it will be our go to spot for work luncheons.
Great ambiance! We loved that we were seated so quickly. They food was top quality and had many choices. The noise level was a little too loud for a fine dining experience, but given that the holidays are here, people just seemed a little more boisterous than usual. Our entire party said we would like to come back and try the Happy Hour.
Too many tables packed into the dining room - servers couldn’t get around the tables. Not all of them full. Need for food runners...our food sat waiting to go to our table for too long. Kids meal came out first which was nice. Usually a great dinner experience.
We had a great dinner here last Saturday night with friends. The food was wonderful! I loved me filet mignon, and others loved their swordfish. The ultimate mixed seafood platter with stuffed shrimp, bbq shrimp and salmon was also especially good! Allow lots of extra time to get here during the holidays due to all the traffic but it’s a great place to people watch and see all the Xmas decorations.
The food was tasty, but not at all worth the price. We ordered a crab cake appetizer (I didn't see the price until I got the bill) $17.00 for ONE crab cake (are you kidding me? I added a lobster tail to my steak ( I thought the price of 12.00 would be fair thinking I would get a average size tail) I have seen bigger SHRIMP! You can add a tail at Red Lobster for 8.00 bucks that is bigger then the one I got there.
I thought the food was tasty, but too dam expensive for the portions they give you. Would not recommend this place, the price is too outrageous for what you get.
Food just take extremely long to be serve. My frequent location is San Francisco McCormick which have more than double this San Jose restaurant and they still serve fast. Order kid meal Salmon is grilled and over burn all the corner. I stil love to come to McCormick but just wish probably you can increase the cook in the kitchen during holiday weekend time.
While staff is friendly don't expect a nice meal. The service is slow without regard to the timing of courses. The food was served after having sat in the kitchen over 10 minutes. Fresh fish is questionable tasted frozen. The service staff is uncooperative they will not help or ask for help from one another. Management will seat you but never check in.
The food was okay, but service was severely lacking from time we walked in the door. It was obvious the staff had not been trained on how to properly serve their clientele. It took 40 minutes to get any bread and finally our first course. We dined early after a performance and it was clear the kitchen was not ready for service. I don’t believe we will return.
Fresh fish flown in from Hawaii were our choices for brunch. We enjoyed the Ono and pan seared Ahi. Had a nice Gewirtztraminer from Alexander Valley Vineyards to accompany the meal. Finished with coffee drinks and some delicious cinnamon ice cream. Our server Kremo was very pleasant. We always enjoy this particular McCormick and Schmick's. It was a great start to a day at the symphony.
We enjoyed our gathering at McCormick & Schmick’s. The food was delicious and well plated and the service excellent. The only downside was that the tables are placed close to each other making it a little challenging to hear each other over nearby tables’ conversations. It’s also challenging for the wait staff in getting around tables. I’m not sure if this is the usual table arrangement or if extra tables have been added to accommodate Christmas in the Park guests and for the holidays.
We have been going here for the great food for years. But our last visit prompted this review because the service and ambiance seems to be slipping: two tables that were seated after us had their meals and departed before we even got our check. Our server would disappear many times and did not follow up after bringing a dish The restaurant was not busy. The manager replaced a votiv light on one table but negleted four others and many tables were not completely set with salt/pepper, napkins, ect. These observations seem trite but even some of the dishes our party of three ordered were not as tight as we've priviously enjoyed. Are standards slipping?
I went with my two kids for Thanksgiving. I believe they raise the prices for the adult meal by 2 or $3 from the last time that I went and they no longer include pumpkin pie as part of the Thanksgiving dinner special. I may be back next year but will definitely look at alternatives
Great as always! We were seated in a side room which was very quiet which made conversation easy. Only problem, our server was good but seemed a bit scattered ( maybe too busy) and seemed no bus boy to help. Our water glasses never got filled and after dinner the bartender actually cleared our plates since she said she had 15 minutes until the end of her shift. The food was enjoyed by all 6 of us.
I made reservations to eat at the restaurant because we had tickets to see "Beautiful" just a few short blocks away. We were caught in terrible traffic so I called the restaurant 10 min. before our reservations to give them a heads up that we'd probably be about 15 minutes late. We let them know we had an 8pm show and they assured us we would be fine. When we got there they seated two other parties, made us wait several more minutes and then seated us in the worst table in the restaurant, in the bar area, next to the kitchen under such bright lights you feel like you are going to be interrogated. The host insisted that they had no other tables available in the restaurant. We were not happy and said so. He didn't even bother to give us menus when he took us to the table. I just happened to have been holding one because I was looking at it while waiting to be seated. We had to flag down another person who worked there to ask for a menu! I asked the waitress if the lights could possibly be dimmed a bit. She said people complain about the lighting all the time. Obviously management doesn't care or they would have corrected that. She dimmed them a bit. Three times during the meal someone turned them back up! I asked for my fish cooked medium. It came out dry, which is not medium but of course we couldn't wait for it to be redone so I ate a very dry $30 piece of fish. In the end we decided to give their loyalty program a try since we do end up there when we go to shows downtown and they claim you get preferred seating. We chatted with the manager when he brought the card over. We usually have a much better experience at McCormick & Schmick and that is why we were willing to try the program, but I let the manager know if we are ever seated at that table again we won't be back. He did end up giving us a discount, which we appreciated, but that was not the point. The point was to have an enjoyable dinner out. It was not.
Usually enjoy this restaurant but the service was slow. By the time we got our food served it felt as though it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an extended period. We had tickets for a show and had to rush out even though we had been there for almost two hours.
The food was good and we like the outdoor seating. However, the service was spotty (we experience this almost every time we dine here). Not the server's fault - The kitchen is slow and the bar backs up. The pictures on the desert menu are standard Photoshop - not accurate and the menu descriptions are not totally accurate as well - the trout with butternut squash - it was hard to find the butternut squash - it was more of a mixed veg with no butternut squash....
Food was very good. We had an early reservation and service was fine until it got busy around 6:00. My husband ordered a second glass of wine when our main entree was served but the wine didn't come until he was almost finished with his meal. Dessert took a half hour to be served. Restaurant gets really noisy when it got busy especially from the bar as there is not much separation between the bar and dining room. If you plan to go I would recommend eating early or after the dinner rush. There might be a staffing problem as our waiter kept apologizing for taking so long to check on us.
