McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - San Jose Ratings and Reviews
Food was actually decent and so was our waitress. Unfortunately our table of 4 was cramped with other tables that I was touching shoulder with the lady of the neighboring table. Changed tables to the bar, which was much spacer and quite. As mentioned, our waitress was very friendly and helpful. However, the kitchen was extremely SLOW! It took almost 2hrs for dinner.
We, a family of 4, had dinner on a Sunday night. The website linked to Open Table, where we made a 6 pm reservation. When we arrived at 5:55, the host explained that there were no tables available--claiming that OpenTable is not properly synched, and that we would not be able to get a table until 9 or 10 at night. When we questioned this, they graciously cleared a table for us in the bar area. The service was very slow, and the waitress did not even take our order until we had finished our appetizers. The appetizers and entres we're over-priced, under-sized and not impressive. On the way out, we noticed numerous empty tables in the dining area.
I was excited to try McCormick & Schmick's as I heard a lot of good things through the years. We arrived on Valentine's for an early pre-6 p.m. dinner, and were seating at the back of the bar. We were unable to see our menu and the seats were crammed between the wall and another table so the seat backs were touching. There was no candle on the table and no over head light, and there were small bar flies hovering our table. This was disappointing as we left there were 5 tables open, closer to the windows. Service was good, and food was good. I asked for extra vegetables, but it looked like one portion. Not sure if it is worth it to go back. Very disappointing on the whole event.
It was a great dinner on Valentine's for my wife and I. The food was great, loved the taste and the presentation, the drinks were just perfect, my wife found the perfect spot for a sangria... our server was amazing and attentive to our needs and made is feel that she cared for us having a great date. Chef Andres's flare on the food was unique and delicious, I would totally recommend this place for a special occasion or a regular date night...
I was really looking forward to this evening as it was a significant anniversary for my fiance and I. Unfortunately we were not given the type of service that we had expected. The service was not what it should've been and we seemed to wait a long time for service. In addition to the disappointing service, I had only gotten through a quarter of my meal and my fiance had gone through half his meal and when they cleared our plates, I asked for them to be wrapped up and we never got our food to go, which was really disappointing. I'm not sure I will come back just given the level of service that was provided to us.
For spending $200 on dinner for my husband and I, the food was pretty lacking. The service was great but the entrees left more to be desired. I had the mixed plate of salmon, stuffed shrimp, crab cake and grilled shrimp. Stuffed shrimp was good. The salmon was overcooked and dry. The crab cake was not what I was expecting. It was a very thick cake loaded with artificial crab. It tasted so fishy that I could not eat. The grilled shrimp were burnt chatted and extremely dry. It tasted as if they had been cooked earlier and reheated. My husband got the filet and shrimp and added a lobster tail. He ordered the steak medium rare which it was. However when it was seared it was charred and it ruined the overall taste of each bite. The lobster tail was so small he finished it in three small bites.
Overall for $200 that we spent for Vday dinner I would have gone somewhere else. Definitely feels like this place has become commercialized since my last visit. Can't say we would come back at those prices.
Saturday night dinner for two. We had three starters and one entrée: coconut shrimp, salmon poke, seared tuna, and trout. The shrimp were delicate and crunchy, with a fragrant sauce - I'd have loved more of the mango salsa to go with it, it was a nice complement. The tuna was excellent, with a touch of spice, but very little of it. I did not like the salmon poke - it was meh. There was no distinct flavor to the fish, it was as though the other ingredients swallowed all aroma. Very bland and mealy. My spouse was happy with his trout. Our server was very good; she reappeared at the right times to check in and was friendly but unobtrusive throughout the meal. - I was dismayed to no longer find the trip of tuna dishes as a starter, which I really liked when I had it before. Most of the dishes on offer are the same as they have always been, but not this one, and it was my fav.....
Service at the beginning was very slow. It took almost 10 minutes from the time we were seated until waiter introduced him self and another 5-10 minutes later until the wine bottle we brought was opened. My wife ordered a glass of Pinot and when the glass was brought to our table she noticed obvious lip stick marks on the glass. The waiter apologized and brought her another glass. The food was excellent however the noise level was loud as we were seated in the booth adjacent to the kitchen and next to us there was a dinner party of 12 people. Unfortunately for us our favorite waiter Louis no longer works there and it showed.
Our 1st time here at McCormick and Schmick. Food was very good and we love "Shrimp Kisses" (we ordered "Steak & Twin Lobster Tails for my husband, Ultimate Mixed Grill" for me; Both are good but little pricey!)
Kid meals have very good price and our kid loved it.
Waitress was very nice and friendly! Overall Very Good service. Parking are lacking but not the restaurant’s fault.
They have a simple menu, with good choices of fish and meat, I had the scampi 3 course dinner special, my date had the oysters Rockefeller, a 6oz Filet, with a side of roasted potatoes and bessel sprouts. my dessert we shared, molten chocolate cake. Good dinner before the show.
Server was terrible, she ignored us the whole time; we actually asked for a new girl but was unable to get one. Manager had to serve our drinks & appetizer. We should have left but needed to get to the play at the performing arts. Very disappointed, found a hair in my food too
My wife and I went to McCormick for a special occasion and were quite disappointed that both the ambiance and service that don't really qualify for special occasion or date.
When I booked this table on Opentable, it had the tag for Special occasion, Date, Anniversaries. I dont think it qualifies for that.
The food is good.
The service was poor in a sense that our waitress made a couple of basic mistakes. it started by serving the appetizer before my first glass of wine was served. Later as the waitress removed a couple of dirty plates from the table next to us, she came to our table, bending over to it , still holding these dirty plates , and removed our plates. First time ever, that I see a waiter removing plates of two different parties at the same time. A bit nasty if you will.
Ambiance: in this location, seems that many customers are business travelers or groups. We were seated next to a large table of business oriented dinner, and naturally it removes any attribute of romantic place, charm, quietness to the place.
In addition to that though, I didn't find that the place has any cachet or attributes that make it to be great for special occasion.
Having a Landry Card is a big help and our selected table was waiting. The oysters on the half shell were tasty and fresh. The swordfish was a bit overcooked; however, the crab topping was spoiled. Didn't taste good and didn't smell good. A manager did phone me to make amends.
At 5:45 on a Friday, the dining room was pretty empty, so my wife and I decided to start our evening in the bar for Happy Hour. The bar was full, with a great buzz. They had excellent drink specials, and a nice selection of appetizers on the Happy Hour menu.
After about an hour, we were able to move to a table for dinner, and the place started to fill up around 7:00. The dinner and drinks were excellent.
