McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - San Jose Ratings and Reviews
The food was not good, a very dissapointing experience. The clam chowder tasted like clam juice with lemons, I couldn't even eat it. The stuffed salmon arrived still frozen in the center. The stuffing of crab and shrimp was minimal and cold. I sent the plate back and it came back warm, still not edible in the center. The mashed potatoes were a lump of potatoes, not like any mashed potatoes I've ever seen and cold. The sorbet was like frozen corn syrup and hard as a rock. The couple next to us sent back their plate and didn't want it back. There seemed to be a bread shortage, people were asking for bread and it never came? We had a bad experience several years ago, but thought we would give them another try. It's nothing like the restaurant in Berkeley, too bad.
Service was a bit on the slow side. It took over 1/2 hour to get our food after we ordered it. The waitress seemed to be 'away' from the dining room more than other waitress. Seems like the other customers were getting more attention... sadly... for us.
We were celebrating my birthday, with was obvious since we used my Birthday Reward. But the waitress didn't even offer a birthday dessert. Although she might not have since she said she felt that we were in a hurry since we had asked about the status of our order earlier. Anyhow, she never even offered dessert to us (nor even a little something to celebrate my birthday).
We were a little disappointed and decided to leave anyway since we wanted to get our car out of the parking garage before our 2 hour validation limit expired. So we ended up driving to somewhere else for dessert.
Everything was good; food, friendly waitress, cleanliness. We ordered the Special dinner with salad, steak, shrimp and veggies and dessert-all done to perfection. The only thing was the noise. There was a large group seated next to us and they were very noisy!
Food was good but service was terribly slow. Soup and salad were served seconds before some main courses and in some cases after the main course.
The restaurant was relatively empty and several managers or supervisors were milling about, seemingly not doing anything.
Very mixed - Martini was OK; Oyster's Rockefeller were good; salad with grilled salmon was OK; filet with two small lobster tails was a disaster...lobster tails way over cooked - came out soggy and tasteless, and the filet that was ordered medium rare came out extremely rare, really just seared and served. Got the feeling that the chefs/cooks had little if any kitchen experience. The services, however, was top notch - friendly, efficient and helpful.
Went here for my mom's 73rd birthday. They were able to accomodate a party of 13 which included an infant in a stroller. Food and drink was good, service was good. My son didn't really enjoy his burger. My only disappointment is that I was told a molten lava cake would be provided for birthday recipient with the words Happy Birthday written on the plate. Instead, a scoop of ice cream was provided with no Happy Birthday written. I would go here again, but probably only during happy hour for the holiday season when Christmas in the Park is also happening.
Celebrating a Birthday, we had Lobster Bisque and Cedar Roasted Atlantic Salmon. Bisque was quite good.. However, the salmon was a bit bland and not what was expected. More of a grilled salmon was expected, rather than the roasted we received. Waitress was very attentive.
Dim lighting was a negative, especially in trying to read menu. Other patrons were actually using flashlight phone apps to read the menu. The complementary birthday dessert was a very nice addition.
I've been coming to this same location for over ten years - not sure what happened, management change, ownership change, not sure, but about two years ago saw quality of food and service drop through the basement.
This was another disappointing visit to what used to be a great restaurant.
Server was slow, didn't bring things we asked for and food quality was all over the map. Sent back the Octopus appetizer (wasn't cleaned or cooked properly) and two other food items (one was my wife's steak which was cold and not cooked as requested).
Used to enjoy coming here, now dread it. Won't be back.
Had an early dinner here on NYE. We only had a party of 3 and were seated in the corner at the bar area, away from the main dining room and just cornered off from everything. The bar area was not full but we were seated there anyway. The service was completely lacking even though the restaurant was only moderraly busy. The server never came to check on us during the meal and she just seemed short/rushed. The food was just average, so it’s not worth the money. I had a good piece of sea bass that came with tons of dried tomatoes and only 2 fingerling potatoes: $40. It tasted good but nothing I’m going to remember. Same with my husband’a meal. He had filet with lobster tail. Just so average for price. Coupled with the poor service, definitely not work the money. Pass on this place.
First timers, my wife and I had heard great things. Our experience was not terrible, but the food, service and ambience were less than satisfying. Below average for a place we’d heard such good things about. For an extra $50 I’d go across the street to Grill on the Alley for an experience worth the money.
My husband and i ordered Scampi and we got overcooked prawns, under cooked noodles and NO GARLIC at all and no butter sauce detected. I have had 10 times better at Red Lobster. We also had the Lobster Bisque and it came to the table luke warm, not hot with huge bread pieces and very little lobster for that price. Again, could get better at Red Lobster.
Our waitress was wonderful.
The dessert was good.
The little food that we ordered (apatizers) were very good and the drinks as well. Unfortunately my party was unable to sample the entre because after waiting an hour and a half for the main course had still not yet arrived to our table and we had to cancel the rest of the meal. Because we had to leave in time to watch Shen Yun. Why this happened is beyond my comprehension because about twenty tables that arrived after us all received their meals in a very timely manner. I would like to say that being black was the cause of delayed service but can not do so.
Started with the Walnut greens salad, followed by the beef medallions. The salad was very fresh, the medallions were perfect. My wife had the beer battered fish and chips, very tasty. Finished the meal with the molten cake. Overall it was a great experience.
We were 12 minutes late due to having to fight through a massive crowd of people and were told that the kitchen was closed. Had we sat down at 9pm as we had planned, would they really have given us 12 minutes to order our drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert? I doubt it.
We had a wonderful time. Our server was a delight and everything came out perfectly.. our second time going there for Xmas Dinner. I would recommend it.
The only downfall is getting there through the throngs of people attending Xmas in the Park. But doable.
It was for Christmas dinner so it was busy and a bit loud. Ordered what they called "Classic Shrimp Scampi" but it was really spicy which was surprising and a bit much. The shrimp and linguini were very tasty but would prefer without the peppers. Even though it was busy our
waitress was attentive enough which was appreciated. We really enjoyed the bread, salad and dessert too. Too bad parking is tough around the restaurant or we would probably go more often.
Was seated quickly, but took the waitress quite a while to even acknowledge us. Food was mediocre at best. The shrimp was overcooked and steak was wrong and by the time it was redelivered the rest of our party had finished eating. Would not recommend this restaurant , especially for the prices that they charge.
Service was extremely slow on Christmas day. The restaurant was not very busy, despite the holiday. Our server seemed to be in a daze, or possibly just new on the job and nervous. We had to ask for things like refills and to place our order. I was not impressed.
Overall the meal was, ehh, ok.
Our server seemed as if she didn’t want to be there, but warmed up about 3/4 way through the meal. I ordered a bowl of Clam Chowder and another party ordered a cup of Clam Chowder. When they arrived, my bowl was rectangle. Ok, maybe I’ll allow for a bit of creative license, BUT, I noticed that the cup was just about the same amount as the “bowl”. To that I say, “Dirty Pool”! Someone in my party ordered the Beef Medallions. When they arrived, the Beef vs cost ratio was off. To that I say, “Where’s the Beef?!?” And “sauce on the side” really shouldn’t be a topic of conversation. Some may like a lightly sauced entree. Or isn’t sure if it will be liked, so if the entree is sauced, the entree is “ruined”. Will we return, not sure.
Everything was great - we sat outside. Unfortunately we sat next to a family of 10. They acted as though they had never been to a Restaurant before : rude, no manners, small children standing on the chairs and running around their table and loud.
This isn’t the restaurant’s fault. Just want a reminder for families who want to dine at this nice restaurant will get a clue by this review. Keep the children / noise under control-
My reservation was on Christmas Eve family dinner. I called to confirm my reservation for Brenda Bryan early in the day . The restaurant confirmed my reservation. And when we arrived the hostess said that they were getting my table ready for Brenda Bryan .
And we sat at a table in bar area waiting for our table . Then the man from restaurant came over to table and said . We don’t have a reservation for you and you cannot be seated . I said yes I have a reservation I called and confirmed reservation today . He said in loud angry voice “ no you don’t have reservation “ then I said yes I do and he again said no you don’t.. Then I said can I speak to manager and he said “ I am the manager and loudly said you do not have a reservation in a mean rude voice . I then said; “ do I need to prove it to you ? And he said yes you do in a rude voice.. I was completely embarrassed and felt harassed by this rude evil manager . I then showed him my reservation under my app open table and .. The mean manager walked away then came back and said you made reservation under Brenda Chadburn wrong name . I then explained my name is Brenda Chadburn Bryan .
I think the manager ruined my Family dinner and He is completely unprofessional .
