Always a favorite in the downtown for a steak or seafood. We both had fish and both were excellent.
Lobster Bisque is one of my favorites!
It was my wife’s birthday and we went with another couple. We had Bonnie as our server. She provided excellent service, was knowledgable and made our evening special! Food was outstanding! Would absolutely return!
They only had one waitress who did her best to take care of many tables.
Made an open table reservation for 10pm on NYE and was called the day of and told that the kitchen closed at 10 and we would need to come in earlier if we wanted to eat. We’re seated and rushed through drinks and meal. The waitress and food were about the only good thing.
The evening dining experience was great! Food preparation was fresh, served quickly but not rushed. It made for an excellent New Years Eve evening.
My wife and I had reservations for 8:15pm, we arrived at the restaurant before 8:00pm on New Year’s Eve, we had an engagement at 10:00pm at another location in downtown San Jose. We thought we had enough time to enjoy a nice dinner and have enough time to get to our other engagement. After waiting 30 minutes to be called, we decided to grab a quick bite at the bar. we were having appetizers when at 9:15pm we were finally called to be seated. This place has no respect to adhere to the reservation promised time. One hour after a reservation is a ridiculous amount of time to expect someone with reservations to be waiting.
We arrived there about on New Year's Eve about 15 minutes early. Had to wait even though plenty of empty tables. We were given ancushy booth. Evertyhing else was good.
the quality of the filet mignon was not good. I called the day before to make sure they had a regular menu, but when I got there the server told me it was a specific menu. I was lucky to be able to order a dish that I was looking forward to. The only drink I order finally showed up after dinner was served. Unfortunately I will not be returning since San Jose has other restaurants with better quality and quanitites for the money.
Not the quality of food I expect from a Bay Area establishment
Would not return
Morgan was our server and she was attentive, kind and a delight. It was a great experience. The food was amazing. We will be back.
Decided to visit McCormick & Schmick's for Christmas dinner this year - my first visit to this restaurant. I arrived about 15 minutes late for my reservation, but was cordially greeted and seated in just a few minutes. My server, Jorge, arrived after just a few minutes and was very helpful in helping me understand the seafood choices on the menu. I selected the New England clam chowder and the Chilean Sea Bass in herb broth. The clam chowder was interesting but definitely not the best I have had. The sea bass, on the other hand, was exceptional. The service was very good except for the fact that I had to request bread with the meal. I would definitely return to this restaurant for another meal.
They seated us 30 mins. after our reservation time; our table did not have silverware/napkins, I took them from another table, the silverware was dirty. The portions are tiny...2 tiny lobster tails for about $35, 4 scallops for about $35. All tables are very close together. The bathroom smelled. Lousy ambiance for a supposedly upper scale restaurant. Food was good though, but that's not enough.
Overall pretty good. The clam chowder is quite tasty. If you’re lucky enough to get the bread fresh out of the over, consider yourself lucky. It’s wonderful!! However, my fries that came with the fish and ‘not so crispy chips’ were not so crispy. Could be fries longer or twice fried. Should be crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the inside. I have spoken.
Service was so slow. We got our second cocktails when our dessert arrived.
The floor around our table was covered with food that had been dropped
While experience was way below the standards were used to at McCormicks
Inexperienced staff and double charged us for bottle of wine
Awful, worse restaurant and service. Don’t waste your time or money.
Table had dirty silverware (food on it) and after asking 3 times, we borrowed two sets from the table next to ours. Server disappeared. Like Gonzo gone. Food was AWFUL!!!! It used to be high end and now is touristy boring 1/2 cooked, minimal flavor, NOT GOOD. Son ordered grilled cheese off the kids meal and it was literally white bread and a swayed piece of 1/3 melted cheese. Cold fries. Lobster mashed potatoes? SAUCE ONLY! Not a single piece of lobster. Was explained as “we really don’t have a lot.” No manager on duty. No refills on soda. No one ever came back, ugh, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
We had a 4pm reservation yet didn’t get seated until 4:25. Our waiter was very inattentive. I had to ask the hostess to have our bread served . It finally was after our main course arrived.
We showed up as a group of 5, instead of the 4 that I reserved for. They seated us after a few minutes, adding a chair to a table for 4. It was a bit cramped, but it was our fault that we had an extra person. Although there were quite a few empty tables when we arrived, shortly afterward the place was packed. It seemed to take a long time to get served. The food was good. No complaints at all. We will certainly go back again.
No veggies served with dinner. Asparagus or squash or some green vegetable would have been nice for the expensive dinner price. I ordered the steak and two lobster tails. The potatoes were not cooked thoroughly and were a little too firm for me and one of my guests who ordered the same dish felt the same. Overall the food was not warm. Drawn butter not warm. Hi Had to eat bread to “fill up”.
Disappointed. I have had much better at the Fish Market where I will go next time.
The food was excellent - ahi tuna seared perfectly, steaks cooked well, clam chowder was excellent. However, the service was terrible. We were seated, and nobody greeted us, offered us water or something to drink, brought bread - NOTHING - for 15 minutes. We finally flagged the server from a neighboring table, who did the right thing and told us she’d get someone for us right away. Momentarily, another server came over, apologized, stated she wasn’t sure who was covering the area, but would get us taken care of right now. She started to take our order when Bonnie came over and stated this was her table and accused the other server of trying to steal her table - ALL RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. It made for a very uncomfortable situation. Bonnie took our order. The manager then came over to apologize as well. Bonnie was dour and curt the rest of the evening. They did offer free dessert as a gesture of goodwill and apology. While the food was excellent, I’m not sure that we will return to the restaurant in the near future.
Much louder than previous location. Waiter seemed green, we asked to pace the courses leisurely, but they came out almost on top of each other. He delivered bread to the table as we were awaiting dessert. Will attribute to holiday rush
Our visit was on a Friday night during the holidays, so it was hectic downtown and McCormick & Schmick's was busy. Bar was packed with no room. Fortunately we had a reservation and although we had to wait as we were early, we were seated pretty much on time. Our waiter was fabulous!!! I was about to order one dish and he said I probably wouldn't be satisfied -- refreshing honesty that will make me go back here.
The dining room had empty tables the two hours we were there, which is too bad as people were waiting. Wait staff was also dealing with a couple of large parties. The wine is waaay over priced, which is too bad. I'd be tempted to visit more often if I wasn't starting the evening off with $45-plus bottles of wine that retail for $12.
Service was slow and not very attentive. Food was good, but not for the price.
Took an hour to get our food. Slow service, poor management. Food average but not disappointing.
Waiters were unaware of table assignments. Food was cold, we ate because we waited for an hour.
Awful experience for us and most patrons with reservations. According to several waiters, management overbooked and the had only one bus person.
Service was great...food very tasty but I was alittle disappointed the my soup and mashed potatoes were room temperature but flavorful.
This is the first and last time we will ever go to this restaurant again. We had a reservation for 4:30pm and arrived at 4:00. Upon entering, the hostess informed us that she would not be able to seat us until our reservation. There were at least 6 open tables. We went to the bar. The restaurant was dirty and understaffed. The manager was busing tables and looked haggard. We waited about ten minutes before he came over and took our order. He apologized for the state of the restaurant. We told him that we were frustrated that we weren't able to be seated and he didn't respond. He did get us to our table no later than our reserved time. The waitress did her best with the order and the food was decent, but by that time, the whole experience was wrecked.
We had a reservation and still we had to wait 25 min for a table even though there were unoccupied tables. Food was just ok, the pear drink was horrible. It was totally not worth to pay so much that dinner. You can get better food for much much less.
Had to wait 30 min even with reservation, then another 15 min at table before server got to us. Service was great after that and food delicious. Clearly understaffed as tables were unbussed for a long time as well. LOUD. Good food eventually but not an enjoyable evening out, especially for the price.
Our waiter appeared to be new but he worked hard. Food deliver was rather slow. 3 of the meals left the dinners wishing the had ordered more due to the small plates
Extremely noisy. Incorrect calculation of bill. Tables very close to each other. Blast of cold air every time patrons enter /exit. Service not attentive. Food very good. Primarily a seafood restaurant but my wife's filet mignon was excellent.
McCormick & Schmick's is one of my top favorite restaurants! Excellent seafood! Depending on how busy it is, you probably shouldn't expect to get the best service.
Uneven experience...hostess was dismissive, server was new?, couldn't answer simple questions about the menu, manager proactively dealt with an appetizer disappointment and confirmed our entrees were being prepared as ordered. Corrected appetizer was excellent as were both entrees. As this is not an inexpensive restaurant one expects a better front of house experience.
Host was not friendly
We had Thanksgiving dinner and although they had a limited menu, it had everything we desired. They had a special Thanksgiving Feast that included all the traditional foods. We chose to have steak and it was fantastic. Our server was very polite, professional, and friendly. He attended to everyone at the table with specific attention, even the kids. All the staff was really hustling. It was a great experience.
Unfortunately, the restaurant has seen better days. One could tell they are not used to a thanksgiving rush, which lead to a myriad of mistakes and confusion. Lastly, the best part of the meal was their sorbet, which is tragic since so much was expected out of the main course dish.
