McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Providence Ratings and Reviews
The bar service when we first arrived for some cocktails was a little slow, however, there was a wedding going on so a lot of guests were pre-gaming. Once we arrived to our table the service was excellent. Our waiter was on top of his game and gave us great suggestions for appetizers and meals. The down fall was the meal itself. Our food arrived cold like it had been sitting out awhile waiting to be served.
Easter. We went at 2:00 and there wasn't anyone dining yet. I ordered two things from the menu and they came back 10 minutes later saying that they didn't have either item.
It's not what it used to be. Also they didn't even acknowledge that I booked it through open table, they said their computer system wasn't working at the moment, so I'm not even sure if I received credit for it
We will not return.
Easter Brunch - delicious! Service was stellar...needed to turn on the a/c - uncomfortably warm. Pleased with prices and menu selection. Booth seats are odd - seem short so they are quite uncomfortable - choose a table over a booth. Valet with brunch $7 - tad expensive. All in all another nice visit to McCormick.
We have dined at a few McCormick & Schmick's and this was as good as our previous favorite at the Park Plaza in Boston.
Our food was excellent and the service was fantastic. We were celebrating our 10th anniversary and staying in Providence for the evening. We never felt rushed and our server was able to help us with the menu and most importantly when ever we needed something he always was there in a timely manner. My wife was torn between two items, our server said one of her choices was his favorite and she picked that item and now has a new favorite herself.
We had booked early to get to the theater on time and the food was amazing while remaining very affordable. The place has a wonderful rich wood interior and lends you to feel like you are in a very high end atmosphere but the staff was warm and welcoming! Great first time experience, will definitely hit this spot again!
When we arrived for our reservation we were greeted and seated right away. The waiter took a couple minutes to greet us but we figured that it was because they seemed a bit busy. After we ordered the food it took about 5 minutes before we received our water. After another 10 minutes, the Waiter came by quickly stating that our food would only be another couple minutes. About 15 minutes more (now 30 minutes since we ordered) the food was delivered. The plates were very hot but the food was cold. I had steak and lobster with potatoes. My potatoes were skinned over on all sides like they were reheated several times. The lobster tail was cooked and presented well and the butter was still hot. My meal was served without a steak knife so I started to cut the steak with the butter knife before the waiter came by and apologized and said he would get me a steak knife. It took 5 minutes for him to return with it. My wife's dinner was fish and shrimp. It was cooked and presented well but it was also mostly cold even though it was served on a hot plate. We were considering ordering desert, but the waiter didn't return for almost 30 minutes after we were done eating. When he did return, we asked for the check. When we left, we went elsewhere for another drink and desert.
There are many other establishments within a couple blocks that I would recommend over this one. It's unfortunate because it is a very nice location in a nice hotel. Too bad the food and service was not even close to the level that we expected.
After show bite to eat / drink
Service was very friendly even if place was not as busy as we expected - as a matter of fact when we arrived we though they were closing up.
Our waitress was very pleasant
Disappointed we could use bar menu for small bites as we were sitting in restaurant area.
We celebrated St. Patrick's day with a lunch. Never did that before as we always sent out local for corned beef & cabbage. Enjoyed the service and menu selection for the date. Licked the costumes of the wait staff & manager on duty.
Had a good time and the food was excellent. Might be an annual thing for us.
Was very disappointed in the meal. The fish was so dry and over cooked we had to send it back. Service was slow despite the place was empty. Did not feel that I got my money's worth. Happy Hour at the bar was much better than the dining experience. Although service was slow there as well.
Very disappointing experience. Service was very slow even tho our server knew we were on a tight schedule as were many of the patrons going to Luke Bryan concert. Bread showed up on the table after entrees were served. After long wait between salad and entree our server informed me that the specialty potatoes/ Brussels sprouts had run out (at 6:00PM - really!!!) and did I want mashed potatoes. Mashed were cold, my wife's entree had clearly sat in a warmer - dried sauce, leather chicken. And to top it off I was charged for the special potato and sprouts! You mean to tell me that with a sold out concert and RV show across the street the management couldn't properly staff the kitchen. It was a Saturday night!! Having 35 yrs in the business I was appalled at such poor planning and execution.
My Wife and I took our Son out for Dinner since he attends Brown. Service was painfully slooooow, we were there over three hours on a slow day! The food was decent but the portions were very small and the price was very big!
Not our favorite Providence place to eat and I doubt we will go again.
The food was outstanding. We'll definitely be coming here again, many of the choices (both food and beverage), that I picked for dinner, they did not have. Also, my boyfriend sat with his oysters waiting for my seared ahi tuna for about 15-20 minutes because they didn't have my king crab cocktail. That was really the only negative was the lack of items. Also, I had ordered a rose bottle, the only one they had out of the 4 bottles to choose from was a sparkling Rose.
My wife and I went out for Valentine's Day(2/14/17) at McCormick & Schmick's in Prov and it was AWFUL! We had reservations for 7:15-we didn't get seated until 7:50. The bartender took 15 mins (9 people at bar) to take our order; then took another 10 to run my card and hand it back. Hostess brought us over to the table where we waited an additional 30 mins before I had to go back to the hostess to ask if someone was going to wait on us. Our server finally arrived and it was all downhill from there. Alberto (our waiter) was horrible! We had to ask for bread, plates, flatware, etc. The service was terrible-DON'T EVER GET ALBERTO FOR A WAITER. Totally ruined our night out-forgot a few things-added others too; rushed from the get-go too. We ordered apps from the raw bar(best idea-you really can't screw up raw shellfish). Alberto rushed our orders-always asking for our entree order within 5 mins of us getting apps. I ordered a steak with truffle fries-Steak cold & overcooked; Truffle fries cold-looked like they opened a bag of Ore-Ida french fries and threw them on the plate. My wife ordered Alaskan King Crab-supposed to be warm-COLD; No cocktail fork to get the meat out of the shell; No drawn butter- and we had to send the crab back! The best thing about this dinner was my wife-who kept my temper in check. We had to ask a manager on the floor to help us get bread, drawn butter, etc.
It was busy, but in our area, there were only 4 other tables-ALBERTO was in way over his head-we overheard him to say to the area mgr, that he couldn't possibly take another table. This made his entire section a total of 9 people and this guy couldn't handle it. Give me a break buddy!
I WILL ABSOLUTELY NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! M&S is a terrible restaurant with HORRIBLE WAITSTAFF AND BARTENDER! DONT' WASTE YOUR TIME! NO-ONE EVEN CAME OVER TO ASK US HOW EVERYTHING WAS-NOT OUR "WAITER" OR THE MANAGER.
The food was acceptable, lukewarm and just plain old food on a plate, lacking expected above average presentation. None of our party of 6 sent anything back, but service was not comparable to some other places we have been served. Even after our reservation was in place well ahead of time, the table was not set with all tableware. We should have known upon entering and seeing a less than 1/3 full dining room that we were not going to get anything more than decent food on a plate. I will not go back.
Our waiter was great and the food was really good. We did wait for about 20 minutes to be seated, even though we had a reservation. They appeared to be under staffed and had trouble seating people during the prime dinner hour. This was my first visit. I would go again.
First I'll say we were happy to find we could get a table for 9 with only a few hours notice.! First we did have to wait in the entrance where the door was kept open to a gusty wind. No problem, we were busy making introducing our selves to new friends we had met up with. So second, our table for 9 had an awkward gap in the seating which made it difficult for conversation. We managed ok, but not ideal. Third our waiter was not to attentive with drinks after our first round. Our delicious lobster bisque was not very hot temperature wise and we didn't get spoons for about 5 minutes following. Still ok. I am not crazy picky. Fourth, Our dinners arrived and 3 of us got the scallops special, scallops were Luke warm although tasty. One of the three dishes had been missing the bed of spinach the was integral to the dish. Strange.. hi would a chef suddenly forget that? Anyway overall everyone liked their dishes and the company was good. I would say they should focus on Hot food being served hot. Remember that people want drinks refilled (my savy wait staff want that anyway since it ups the bill right?)
I was very excited about going to this restaurant because my fiancé and I were celebrating Valentine's Day, I thought that making a reservation through open table would get us seated on time, but unfortunately it did not. We waiting 15 minutes and within that 15 mins we realized we were not the only ones waiting with a reservation, there were multiple parties waiting for tables with reservation times that had passed. Once we finally sat down we waited another 10 mins before the manager realized we had no waiter and came over to take our drink order. Once we got a waiter we ordered our appetizer and meal immediately, afraid that the waiter would never return. Long story short, we waited about 1 hour total for food, the service was awful. The manager Ted was very nice and did give us a free round of drinks, overall the food was good but over priced.
My expectations were high, so with all that went wrong, I was very disappointed. The server's and manager were VERY nice and the manager immediately came out with a complimentary bacon-wrapped shrimp appetizer for us and it was delicious. Great start! Although the waiter was clearly new (strange to put an inexperienced person on for a Friday night, luckily for him and us.....the restaurant wasn't even 1/2 full), he was nice and tried his best. So much went wrong, I will just highlight it: The fresh out-of-the-oven bread came towards the end of our meal. The 2nd drink I ordered, never came. In fact, the server asked if I had received it (huh? wasn't HE the one to bring it???) AFTER I asked for the check!!! I ordered the fish & chips, a standard comfort food for New England, plus this IS a Seafood restaurant. Yet, it came with a spicy aioli. I dislike spicy foods so asked for some normal tarter sauce. Evidently, they do not have any tarter sauce in house! So, they tried to make some. I say tried, because it was quite bad. Nice of them to try though!!! The carpaccio I ordered was plentiful (enough for 3?) but was cut a bit too thick, so wasn't as tender as it should be, plus they piled a huge amount of greens in the middle of the plate. There were other instances, on top of these, but these were the highlights....or low lights as it were. Plus, this place is pricey. Definitely will not be returning, nor recommending.
Very few customers in the restaurant the evening we were there. So the service was very good. The waiter was excellent, very professional, courteous, and accommodating. The food is very tasty, reasonably priced. One short-coming, the main courses were slightly cold by the time we got them. Maybe we order too much appetizers? Maybe the kitchen started cooking too early? The ice cream was excellent. The chocolate cake was very sweet. Slightly blemished for an otherwise great evening.
Our entrees were excellent across the board. We were all happy with our entree choices.
Our table was ready when we arrived.
Valet was very fast.
Service was terrible. Our waiter was nice but not attentive. The bar was allegedly backed up with a large party so we waited 20 minutes for our first set of drinks.
The lettuce on my wedge salad was very brown. I had to return it which I am not one to return food. We could not find a waiter so my husband had to walk up to the kitchen. They never came back with a replacement so I ended up asking for it to be removed from our bill.
My husband ordered the mahi mahi. They came back about 10 minutes later and told him they were out of mahi mahi. He ordered a sea bass dish. Instead, they delivered a salmon that had shell fish on it. He is allergic to shell fish so he had to return it. They had his sea bass ready quickly though.
Two bathroom stalls were out of toilet paper.
We chose this restaurant as part of Restaurant Week in Rhode Island and it did not disappoint. Part of my party chose from the Restaurant Week menu and I chose from the regular menu. The food was very good, but the standout was our waiter who knew we were in a time crunch and did everything he could to get the food out to us in a timely manner.
