I was thoroughly disappointed with the entire experience. We had a reservation for 8 people but needed to make it 9 when we got there, the staff had a heart attack at the idea of putting an extra chair at the end of the table . The place was empty btw so it should've been less than no problem. Then the waiter proceeded to tell us at least 5x throughout our meal that we needed to tip him well . I asked for blue cheese olives in my martini he said he would stuff them himself as long as I remembered it at tip time . Then gave me my drink with no olives . The only reason I gave it above a 1 was because the food wasn't bad and the busers were extremely nice. Otherwise it sucked .
The cost of the dinner was not worth the experience. Initially it started with a poor table location - what's the point of making a reservation (?) - upon request we were give a better location. The servers were not sure who was covering which table and the food was just ok. I had expected better from M&S.
Our reservation through Open Table couldn't be found by the Maitre'd when we arrived, but he promptly sat us anyway. There were many free tables but he sat us at a teeny tiny one, slightly uncomfortable. Our waitress Juliet should most likely work less hours (if she was tired) she couldn't take our dessert order with our dinner order - as she said "She'd most likely forget it" and if we could wait and order it after. She was slow to come to take our order and was uncomfortably 'fake' constantly responding in a sing songy way "Your Welcome" to my kindly meant thank-yous. After dinner, she asked, if we'd like dessert? UM.. Yes I said Two Creme Brule (which by the way was outstanding) she brought one... I said hum I ordered two.. her remark was "Well share that one and I'll go get another" ... ok, but it wasn't what I asked for! As I said the service was not good, but the food was outstanding.
This was our first visit, and we will go back to see if there's improvement with the service. We had heard about this from a friend. They had been to another one out West, and recommended it for steaks. It's in the city, which might explain why it was almost deserted at 6PM on a Saturday. Anyway, we sat at the bar. There were a few other patrons, ourselves, and two bartenders. While the food was good, the service was very sporadic. Walking around I saw no more than 4 tables in use, so the staff was not overloaded. Anyway, it is well worth your time to go.
The service was terrible. I had to ask other servers for refills of water and to clear plates. The food had no flavor, was luck warm and for the price that we paid it was not worth it.
Service was great, as the waiter was courteous & friendly. The menu choices were many but didn't cater to those that are looking for lite/ healthy dish(s). Also we were a group of 6 and everyone was commenting that the food/entree & side choices were notably salty. The Bartending service was Poor, as 1 person ordered a Bellini and got a glass of wine/preseco with peach liquor & an slice of orange! The ambiance was okay but the overall restaurant needs a renovation.
It certainly didn't meet the expectation of the Boston location. Thank you
The Lobster Cobb is amazing!
Nowhere near as good as other McCormick & Schmick's I've visited (NY, DC, etc.). Felt like a B-level version; did not feel like a fine dining establishment.
Silverware was dirty, bread plates were dirty, they took forever to provide appetizers even though restaurant was less than half full. Steak was significantly undercooked. I typically go to this restaurant in other cities as I know what to expect - high quality service, nice restaraunt, and great food This restaurant clearly underperforms relative to others I've been to.
Staying at the Biltmore so we decided that we did not want to go our too far from hotel after a long day of sightseeing. Everything was very good, but our waiter disappeared for quite some time after our meal was served by another person. He later claimed that they like to leave you alone while you eat, but table next to us had a different waiter, who was quite attentive to them without being obtrusive. He would walk be and ve in vicinity if they needed anything.
Food was great especially of the fish tacos. The only thing that I had a problem with was that my appetizer came after I was done with my lunch . I'm pretty sure that our waiter forgot to put it in and when I reminded him it was too late . It doesn't take 45 min for stuffed mushrooms to be baked.
Very good seafood and steak! A little pricey, but appropriate for the high quality food. Would especially recommend the stuffed shrimp and salmon.
Always great food and service! The only thing is it takes a little while to get bar drinks. Whether you are sitting at a table or the bar. Other than that love this place.
We have eaten at M & S several times before, always happy with the food and service. This was disappointing. It began with them losing our reservation (place was absolutely dead so did it really matter?) and continued with menu options we selected not being available. The food that we eventually settled on was fine (not great - just fine) and the service was okay. I was anticipating the Asst. GM would stop by knowing we had been disappointed by the menu shortfall but I had to seek him out. Not even a simple apology. I guess it's time to find a new seafood restaurant in Providence.
Dinner was good, though a bit pricey for what we got. It is a nice restaurant that is still kid-friendly, if your children are up for a leisurely paced meal. This was a good meal before Waterfire, although it was still less expensive and more convenient to the post-dinner entertainment to park at the mall than at the discount rate of valet at the Biltmore (where the restaurant is located). Raw bar was fresh and included local seafood.
Restaurant week did not disappoint. Crab and corn chowder was great, only disappointed on it's small portion. Crab mac and cheese portion was the gift that kept on give as my husband and I both had leftovers. Other than a crumb filled seat, it was perfect.
We have dined at this restaurant group before and have not been disappointed in the food or experience. This time was no exception. We ordered a couple of appetizers with a discount coupon and found the shrimp bites to be particularly delicious. Our entrees were a mix of seafood and beef and all were well prepared. The desserts, especially the "chocolate bag" (literally a bag made from chocolate and filled with mascarpone and fresh fruit was over the top.
Chose this location for "restaurant week" because of it's good reputation. Got all dressed up and headed out for our 8:00 Saturday night reservation. Found other patrons in ripped jeans, denim shorts and tank tops. Escorted to a table with a pool of water on it. Had to ask to have the table wiped down. The hostess looked at it and walked away. Had to ask for the restaurant week menu. Not a big deal. Ordered our wine, and asked for glasses of water. Sat for 25 minutes before the server returned with the wine, but no water or menus. Was a full 50 minutes before we got to place our order. Food was delicious, but there are a lot of restaurants in Providence with good food. Server told us we were in luck because there was "water fire" tonight. We knew of this activity and headed down to the waterfront after dinner. No water fire....it's next weekend. That sums up our visit to McCormack and Scmick...big expectations and big disappointments!
The food was delicious but our service was horrible! After we asked the waiter to correct his mistakes he didn't apologize or offered us anything for the inconvenience. It was my first and last time there! It's such a shame because the food was delicious!
Good place good food!!!
First time there and weren't sure what to expect. The drinks are all hand crafted, the wait staff was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious!
We will definitely be returning!
I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The service was awesome. Our waiter, Trey was very personable and very efficient. Our food was very good, price was fair. The building, decor, and atmosphere was very nice. Location is great. I will go back to this restaurant every time I visit Providence.
Went for Father's Day Brunch. We use this restaurant quite often for all occasions, love the ambiance and the food is always superb!
I took advantage of my Landry's Select birthday gift and went to M&S in the Hilton Biltomore. This was my 2nd visit there. The tuna appetizer was the best thing I ordered and I would highly recommend it. I had both King Crab and Lobster.
Candidly, the king crab was a little overcooked and lost some of it's sweet succulence. The lobster was was good.
Service was very good
M&S has a great reputation but I think something is lacking at this particular one. I know there is lot's of competition, but the place was empty by 9 pm. I think the food is good but doesn't live up to the M&S standard.
I never write reviews but i really wanted to forewarn people about this place. The service was so so so slow, and very incomplete AND its not like they were short staffed... when headed to use the ladies room there were lots of waitstaff just hanging out at the hostess station !!
It was my sons birthday and we paid a lot for this very sub par meal and ruined the evening for us...and we are NOT picky people, i would rate us as very understanding, and if it was just one thing i wouldn't be writing this review, but they failed on ALL aspects of the experience
there are so many other options in providence ...this shouldn't be one of them
I really enjoyed the meal and service. One of the best lobster bisque soups that I have ever had!
The service here was poor especially considering the price. The food was fine but the service was just overall poor. The waiter was nice enough but not attentive at all. The bathroom was clean either. So overall, we weren't too impressed.
I am not one to complain, however this was one of the worst experiences I have had in a while. I love this chain and have experienced many amazing meals there across the country however I dont think I'll be back to this particular location. I personally selected this restaurant to share a special meal with my family and friends and was frankly, embarrassed. In a nutshell we had to ask for water, bread, our dessert which we were told that they forgot to tell us they were out of. Not kidding, forgot to tell us after 30 minutes of waiting. Two of the six meals had to be sent back due to being undercooked and came back over cooked. Our server was very, very pleasant but clearly could have used either additional assistance or further training.
Fresh seafood and good service keep us coming back. Love the RI Calamari appie.
Excellent meal overall. The grilled salmon was delicious/flavorful and cooked to perfection. Thumbs up for the baked parmesan crusted chicken. One of the good things about this restaurant is that all fish can be prepared simply grilled, broiled or pan seared. We were able to complete our meal and make it in time to PPAC. Good fast service.
Anthony G was amazing we arrived early for our reservation and got seated immediately.
The staff was at tentative and we were in and out quickly. Anthony also seemed to be extremely knowledgeable about the Biltmore that stands above the restaurant overall fantastic experience I'll definitely be back again
Loved our waiter!!! Awesome awesome awesome customer service! Made my Mother's Day dinner magnificent! My family of 13 were very pleased!
We went there for a Mother's Day brunch and were very pleased. The food and service were both very good though we could have seen our server a little bit more often. However, since it was Mother's Day and the restaurant was busy, we can overlook that mild criticism. In general we were happy there and would go back again.
Mothers Day everyone loved it
We booked this for Mother's Day brunch as we were heading to providence to see a hockey game. The menu online looked great, nice selection. We decided to book for 11.45 so we would hopefully have a choice from breakfast and lunch menu.
When we arrived we were seated under the full blast air con, it was freezing an and apparently couldnt be turned down as controlled by the hotel. We were given a set menu which was very limited, one option for kids and told that's all they'd be serving until 2pm. When the guests next to us were seated they were handed another menu in addition, when I then asked if we could order from this the server said no. In the end we asked someone else who said we could.
Got our food, some was ok the rest was not. Server forgot the toast, asked and got it at the end, asked for side plates for kids to split two meals to share - they didn't arrive. Just not the best!!
Mother's Day Brunch was a bit limited, but good. They also had some basic breakfast items for those not interested in Benedict options. Service was a bit "off" , especially surprising since there weren't many tables being served.
We had a great Mother's Day Breakfast. The food and service were great. The decor was beautiful too.
Overall, I was appalled by this restaurant. First, the lack of professionalism among the waitstaff and management was shocking from the moment I walked in and continued throughout the night. As we headed to the host stand at the BACK of the restaurant (?), members of the waitstaff/bus crew were seated at booths appearing to be just hanging out. Upon arriving to our table, many of the surrounding tables were not clean or re-set, which was especially surprising since the restaurant was nearly empty on a Friday night at 8:30-9:00 and from bus staff with evidently nothing to do. After some time, the tables were cleaned off, but in a sloppy way, as bus boys loudly conversed while "cleaning", and were also observed to swipe the food and other items from the table onto the floor. Additionally, a bus bucket was brought out & used to loudly stack the plates and glasses, which was surprising being the type of restaurant advertised as. If they were not sloppily cleaning or resetting tables, they were talking to each other from across the restaurant as they walked through. Our waiter was friendly and nice; however, the service was less than satisfactory as we appeared to be one of his only tables. Not only was water not brought to the table from the beginning, but we needed to ask for it. He approached our table only when he needed something from us - when he needed to take our orders, needed to deliver the food, or needed to clear our food and inquire about coffee/dessert, or for the bill. There was no in between check in's to see how everything was, or even if we needed some more water.
Second, while the lack of professionalism was more than prominent, the food and cocktails were very good. However, due to the lack of professionalism which is ultimately the fault of management, I would not recommend this restaurant unless you are staying in the hotel and are in a desperate pinch for dinner, or you would like to sit at the bar for drinks and/or food.
I had a really n ice meal at M&S. My server, Kylie was amazing; professional and knowledgeable. When I inquired if there were any crudo or tartare dishes on the menu, she asked the chef to make one that they recently removed from the menu. It was delightful.
The ribeye steak was delicious. I also had the mushrooms and asparagus along with it. Everything was cooked perfectly.
I also had a great chat with Ted the GM. He made me feel quite at home and we had a very nice discussion regarding wine.
I look forward to returning!
I had the lobster roll and Caesar salad. It was all good. The Arnold Palmer drink was great too!
