Returning to co-founder Bill McCormick's hometown, McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant is located in the historic Biltmore Hotel, where Mr. McCormick once parked cars as a young boy. McCormick & Schmick's is conveniently located adjacent to the Rhode Island Convention Center and within walking distance of the business, historical, governmental and cultural communities of Providence.
The menu at McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant is printed twice daily and features more than 30 varieties of fresh fish and seafood from around the world. Other menu highlights include tempting pasta, poultry and beef specialties to tempt any palette.

Extremely convenient inside beautiful Providence Biltmore Hotel. Accommodating and friendly staff. Waiter, Sully, was very personable. Open on Thanksgiving. After being seated, moved to a different booth due to proximity to a family table with noisy, crying children. This is not a cozy, romantic restaurant, especially if seated next to a loud table. Lighting was bright, tables closely spaced, and always waiters walking by or setting food trays down nearby. Expected better ambiance and atmosphere for the price of the food. Signature onion mac & cheese was great, herb-crusted pork chop was very good, not dry, only a little bit too much herb crust. Clams fresh. Probably would choose a different restaurant for dinner if in Providence again. This is the hotel's breakfast restaurant, so it's convenient, but did not eat breakfast there.
Went on a Saturday evening before a PPAC performance. Food was good and fairly priced considering the ambiance. Menu seemed a little limited however with many of the same ingredients showing up in multiple offers IE shrimp was in many dishes. Service was attentive and low keyed. Would absolutely return.
Second time trying this restaurant and it was just OK. Soup came out cold. Dinner took a while to get to get to us (party of 6), vegetables were cold. Some diners meat was cold when delivered, no one came back to see how our meal was. It was just ok, not sure we'll go back, especially for the price.
Something was clearly quite wrong the evening we arrived. On a Saturday evening at prime time, there was no available at the reception area when we arrived. Two more parties arrived as we were waiting - still no one. One of the other parties ventured into the dining room to see if anyone could help, and a young member of staff in the dining room promptly seated them, and we eventually got seated as well. Someone gave us menus and took our drink order and then disappeared. A waiter eventually arrived but knew nothing about our drink order, so went off to find out. After another 10-15 minutes of waiting, he returned, without our drinks, and took our dinner order. Just as we were getting truly alarmed that our drinks had still not arrived, our meals were delivered. The waiter then apologetically ran off to search for our drinks, which eventually arrived. Our meals were fine and consumed without any issues. We ordered coffee and dessert, and the coffee arrived without cream or sugar. This took another 10 minutes to retrieve and the coffee was by then cold, and was quickly replaced. While we were waiting, we overheard the party in the next booth complaining to staff about variations on the same issues we had experienced. The place has been there for some time, so I assume this evening was an anomaly or they wouldn't stay in business. But if you do go here, be vigilant about the service. The dining room staff seem to be quite young and inexperienced.
The bartender was fabulous but the atmosphere is called an austere when you walk in. They need more large booths so you get a better steakhouse feeling. Our porterhouse steak was cooked properly but missed on the flavor. We ordered many sides and they were not something that I had to re-strain from seconds.
We waited 20 minutes after we order our drinks to be served. We ordered wine with dinner which was served 10-15 minutes after dinner was served. We had similar experience with service last time we dined here as well. Food was good but service needs improvement
As usual McCormick & Schmick's Seafood is great place to eat - ALL of the staff were wonderful and friendly. The manager made sure we received a birthday dessert and stopped by a few times to check on us.
I don't know who made the decision but the bottle of wine we ordered (our favorite for $65) was out. I then ordered the wine that our waiter recommended but changed my mind a few minuets later to one we had before and loved ($95) I figured once a year isn't going to break the bank. When we received the bill the wine was listed correctly but the price reflected our first choice. We were very surprised that someone and I don't know who made the decision to charge us the lesser price because they were out. THAT is just another reason for us to love McCormick & Schmick's Seafood.
Steaks were terrible and had no taste, and the restaurant ran out of A1 steaksauce. We were charged over $4 for kids drinks, $4 for seltzer water (machine soda water) and $6 for a salad with only lettuce. Terrible experience, especially for what you pay.
My meal of parmesean crusted flounder lacked any flavor. My wife's meal was overcooked and chewy the first time, and just tasted bad the second time. The soda was flat tasting. The appetizer, and my wife's drink were the only good things about the food.
We were going out with friends to see Les Miserables @ PPAC and selected McCormick & Schmick's for dinner before the theater. They were training our waiter and the trainer wasn't paying enough attention so we ended up with 3 pieces of bread for 4 people having dinner. We had to ask twice for more bread. The trainer was a very nice guy but had horrendous breath and whenever he was near the table the smell was overwhelming. We started with oysters - whoever shucks the oysters there does not do a good job and we had little pieces of shells in every oyster. We also ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer - when we asked the trainer, he told us they were quite large but when they came they were no where near large in any of our opinion and they looked like they had been sitting out unrefrigerated all day - we sent them back (they willingly took them back and removed them from the bill). My wife asked for mashed potatoes instead of french fries and on a $32 plate of 2 crab cakes, the mashed potatoes turned out to be instant. When we got the bill, we had been charged for 2 crab cake dinners - 1 with mashed potatoes and 1 with french fries (which we did not have). Overall, we thought this dinner was a total letdown. Luckily Les Misearables was amazing to compensate for the very disappointing start to our night out on the town....
Food tasted like frozen fish sticks. Had trouble when being seated. I had a reservation and when I arrived the restaurant was empty. They sat me at the bar. I told them I didn’t want to sit by the bar. They said those tables where for people with reservations. I told them I had a reservation. They gave me a hard time but finally changed our table. This restaurant is overpriced for the poor quality of the food they serve. The only good thing about this place was our server was excellent.
I was thoroughly disappointed with the entire experience. We had a reservation for 8 people but needed to make it 9 when we got there, the staff had a heart attack at the idea of putting an extra chair at the end of the table . The place was empty btw so it should've been less than no problem. Then the waiter proceeded to tell us at least 5x throughout our meal that we needed to tip him well . I asked for blue cheese olives in my martini he said he would stuff them himself as long as I remembered it at tip time . Then gave me my drink with no olives . The only reason I gave it above a 1 was because the food wasn't bad and the busers were extremely nice. Otherwise it sucked .
The cost of the dinner was not worth the experience. Initially it started with a poor table location - what's the point of making a reservation (?) - upon request we were give a better location. The servers were not sure who was covering which table and the food was just ok. I had expected better from M&S.
Our reservation through Open Table couldn't be found by the Maitre'd when we arrived, but he promptly sat us anyway. There were many free tables but he sat us at a teeny tiny one, slightly uncomfortable. Our waitress Juliet should most likely work less hours (if she was tired) she couldn't take our dessert order with our dinner order - as she said "She'd most likely forget it" and if we could wait and order it after. She was slow to come to take our order and was uncomfortably 'fake' constantly responding in a sing songy way "Your Welcome" to my kindly meant thank-yous. After dinner, she asked, if we'd like dessert? UM.. Yes I said Two Creme Brule (which by the way was outstanding) she brought one... I said hum I ordered two.. her remark was "Well share that one and I'll go get another" ... ok, but it wasn't what I asked for! As I said the service was not good, but the food was outstanding.
This was our first visit, and we will go back to see if there's improvement with the service. We had heard about this from a friend. They had been to another one out West, and recommended it for steaks. It's in the city, which might explain why it was almost deserted at 6PM on a Saturday. Anyway, we sat at the bar. There were a few other patrons, ourselves, and two bartenders. While the food was good, the service was very sporadic. Walking around I saw no more than 4 tables in use, so the staff was not overloaded. Anyway, it is well worth your time to go.
Service was great, as the waiter was courteous & friendly. The menu choices were many but didn't cater to those that are looking for lite/ healthy dish(s). Also we were a group of 6 and everyone was commenting that the food/entree & side choices were notably salty. The Bartending service was Poor, as 1 person ordered a Bellini and got a glass of wine/preseco with peach liquor & an slice of orange! The ambiance was okay but the overall restaurant needs a renovation.

Silverware was dirty, bread plates were dirty, they took forever to provide appetizers even though restaurant was less than half full. Steak was significantly undercooked. I typically go to this restaurant in other cities as I know what to expect - high quality service, nice restaraunt, and great food This restaurant clearly underperforms relative to others I've been to.
Staying at the Biltmore so we decided that we did not want to go our too far from hotel after a long day of sightseeing. Everything was very good, but our waiter disappeared for quite some time after our meal was served by another person. He later claimed that they like to leave you alone while you eat, but table next to us had a different waiter, who was quite attentive to them without being obtrusive. He would walk be and ve in vicinity if they needed anything.
Food was great especially of the fish tacos. The only thing that I had a problem with was that my appetizer came after I was done with my lunch . I'm pretty sure that our waiter forgot to put it in and when I reminded him it was too late . It doesn't take 45 min for stuffed mushrooms to be baked.
We have eaten at M & S several times before, always happy with the food and service. This was disappointing. It began with them losing our reservation (place was absolutely dead so did it really matter?) and continued with menu options we selected not being available. The food that we eventually settled on was fine (not great - just fine) and the service was okay. I was anticipating the Asst. GM would stop by knowing we had been disappointed by the menu shortfall but I had to seek him out. Not even a simple apology. I guess it's time to find a new seafood restaurant in Providence.
Dinner was good, though a bit pricey for what we got. It is a nice restaurant that is still kid-friendly, if your children are up for a leisurely paced meal. This was a good meal before Waterfire, although it was still less expensive and more convenient to the post-dinner entertainment to park at the mall than at the discount rate of valet at the Biltmore (where the restaurant is located). Raw bar was fresh and included local seafood.
