Over cooked Calamari, over cooked fish and chips. Decent lobster tails and good manager who made some of the badness go away
We used to eat at M&S every week, but stopped going as often over the past 9 mos. The food seems to have gone downhill. I think they need a new chef. This past week, I ordered a filet mignon. It seemed more like a ribeye and my food was barely warm.
Our server was fantastic, the appetizer was delicious. My drink was so watered down I was embarrassed for whoever poured it. Our entrées were just OK. For a place charging the prices they do, I couldn't believe there were no paper towels or hand dryers in the bathroom. The men's room had nothing to dry hands on and the women's room had two rolls of toilet paper left out. Also we indicated twice on the reservation that we were celebrating a special occasion and this was never addressed, why bother asking then?
We have been to this location 5-6 times and we have been happy and impressed every time. It is a cozy place, but still appropriate for business. Food is always excellent as is the service. The serving staff is extremely professional. Our most recent two visits we had Maija and Ted--both very pleasant and professional. My only "warning" is that for those who do not eat fish and seafood, the menu is extremely limited. There are 4 or so choices of beef, but the only chicken or pasta , is a Blackened Chicken Pasta. However for many years there was a Parmesan Crusted Chicken as their chicken option which was excellent. This particular McCormick and Schmick's will still make it for you if you ask. They really try to please their guests. Another example was one Saturday we ended up there "after Brunch" . They were not busy and the kitchen very kindly made us omelets and offered other more breakfast type options which is what we were looking for. This is a Landry Select Club restaurant for those who look. There are not a lot in New England. This is one of the key reasons we go.
Was dining at the bar counter with one other guest. The counter was filthy and took the server behind 5 minutes to clean, of which his back was towards us facing the register and texting on his phone. He finally comes and we put a drink order in. Our drinks came and no ask if we wanted dinner menus. 10 minutes later, I see him texting again for a second time and also chit chatting with what appeared to be a very young manager. If he was a good manager, he would have seen that I was eyeing them the entire time. Finally I just asked out loud for menus. He never comes back to see if we are ready to take an order. I finally ask if they have a bar menu which he says not for another 30 minutes. That’s fine with me and not bothered by that. He never comes back to ask what we want so finally, I asked for the check for the drinks. He thought we were leaving because of the bar menu question. I guess he didn’t realize the awful service, texting on his phone, lack of attentiveness wasn’t the reason. This was the first time I’ve ever left a restaurant with intents of dining but didn’t. Terrible service as if he was on something and totally spaced out. Not thrilled the manager was not professional nor qualified either. Can’t believe this place is still in business. The one in Boston is the exact opposite.
The food is very good. The seafood is fresh. The staff
Are very nice. However we were there early and there were very few patrons. We ordered drinks when someone came by and an appetizer. It took almost 30 minutes for the 2 drinks. They came by once and said the bar was backed up but It wasn’t yet busy when we ordered. My drink was the wrong drink. Wasn’t going to wait longer for another. The appetizer which was some oysters came 15 minutes later (45 minutes from when ordered ). Then the meals a couple minutes later. Food was delicious. Service needs a lot of work. Not sure what the problem was with the bar.
Location is very convenient if you are going to a show at the Dunkin Donuts Centre. It is just a few minutes walk but make sure to allow more time to get there. Our show was scheduled for 5PM and we didn't arrive at M&S until 8PM as the show started late and you need to allow for some more time just to exit after the show. We arrived 30 minutes later than our reservation, but the restaurant was not very busy for a Saturday night so they were still able to seat us. There were 2 of us and the host took us to a table in the middle of one of the dining areas bypassing several open booths. When I asked for a booth, he said that he would have to wait for one to be cleaned. I told him that was fine and he seemed a little annoyed. From where I was standing I could see 5 open clean booths, so not sure what the problem was as some of those booths were never seated, so they weren't being held for other reservations. Once, we were seated it did take a little longer than I expected before our server got to the table. But once she greeted us, the service was very good going forward. We had the Crab Cake appetizer which is always good at M&S in any location. We had the Surf & Turf and the Seafood Trio, all of which were very good. The trio included Salmon, which is always excellent at M&S, full of flavor and very moist, but still cooked through. I would definitely return if we were in Providence for another show.
Waiter was a little lost. Took forever to get our order taken. Was later in evening so place was not slammed. Got meal delivered incorrectly, serving us the wrong dish. Corrected quickly. Great Drinks!
Everything was very good - except that our waiter wasn't great with English and made two mistakes on orders.
The service was terrible for us. No one came to our table for almost fifteen minutes after we were seated. Our meal ticket was lost, the food came an hour and a half after our arrival. When the meal did get there, our steaks were not cooked to the correct temperature. The waitress did not offer to compensate or even apologize. After our meals were finished, we waited half an hour for her to acknowledge we were done before bringing the check. The food was not awful, but it was not worth the price they charged. Both steaks (a filet and a ribeye) were very salty. Overall, I will not be back and I would not recommend to a friend.
Really enjoyed the meal. The food was delicious and especially enjoyed the desserts. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to eat in the city.
We each had steaks - me a ribeye and she had a filet. Excellent cuts of meat and perfectly grilled. We also had breakfast the next day, which was outstanding.
Smelly kitchen. Long wait for food and service. Not the McCormick & Schmick’s I am used to. Ménager needs to recalibrate. They were out of olives for drinks and ahi tuna. Not impressed at all.
1’st time here was very impressive, will definitely come back.
The manager that night was rude and horrible customer service. I think her name was Tilaya. Bad experience! I was there Saturday night then another manager was there Sunday morning and very pleasant.
In town for my daughter's competition. I've never had issues with McCormick's at other locales. Saturday night, not busy the food was mediocre at best. Pretty disappointing.
Mediocre at best, was there on Christmas Day for dinner, perhaps they did not have the A team working. Service was slow and food just OK
Extremely convenient inside beautiful Providence Biltmore Hotel. Accommodating and friendly staff. Waiter, Sully, was very personable. Open on Thanksgiving. After being seated, moved to a different booth due to proximity to a family table with noisy, crying children. This is not a cozy, romantic restaurant, especially if seated next to a loud table. Lighting was bright, tables closely spaced, and always waiters walking by or setting food trays down nearby. Expected better ambiance and atmosphere for the price of the food. Signature onion mac & cheese was great, herb-crusted pork chop was very good, not dry, only a little bit too much herb crust. Clams fresh. Probably would choose a different restaurant for dinner if in Providence again. This is the hotel's breakfast restaurant, so it's convenient, but did not eat breakfast there.
The food was delicious, the server was super sweet. Probably the best margarita I've ever had & I could eat those lobster bites every day.
Very attentive staff both in the coffee lounge before dinner and during our meal. Thsnks.
Went on a Saturday evening before a PPAC performance. Food was good and fairly priced considering the ambiance. Menu seemed a little limited however with many of the same ingredients showing up in multiple offers IE shrimp was in many dishes. Service was attentive and low keyed. Would absolutely return.
Food was extremely salty.
Overpriced for the amount of food.
Dessert was good.
Second time trying this restaurant and it was just OK. Soup came out cold. Dinner took a while to get to get to us (party of 6), vegetables were cold. Some diners meat was cold when delivered, no one came back to see how our meal was. It was just ok, not sure we'll go back, especially for the price.
Our waiter was terrific, recommending different foods and wines. The manager was also extremely nice. Best meal my wife and I have had in a long time.
Final night for WaterFire! The food was wonderful . Perfect date!
service was not very good and mussels were bad, had to send them back. tuna tar tar was great. loud
Something was clearly quite wrong the evening we arrived. On a Saturday evening at prime time, there was no available at the reception area when we arrived. Two more parties arrived as we were waiting - still no one. One of the other parties ventured into the dining room to see if anyone could help, and a young member of staff in the dining room promptly seated them, and we eventually got seated as well. Someone gave us menus and took our drink order and then disappeared. A waiter eventually arrived but knew nothing about our drink order, so went off to find out. After another 10-15 minutes of waiting, he returned, without our drinks, and took our dinner order. Just as we were getting truly alarmed that our drinks had still not arrived, our meals were delivered. The waiter then apologetically ran off to search for our drinks, which eventually arrived. Our meals were fine and consumed without any issues. We ordered coffee and dessert, and the coffee arrived without cream or sugar. This took another 10 minutes to retrieve and the coffee was by then cold, and was quickly replaced. While we were waiting, we overheard the party in the next booth complaining to staff about variations on the same issues we had experienced. The place has been there for some time, so I assume this evening was an anomaly or they wouldn't stay in business. But if you do go here, be vigilant about the service. The dining room staff seem to be quite young and inexperienced.
Went for brunch, delicious food, employees were very nice.
Nothing impressive about the service or ambience. The food was not very good. We were a large party who ordered a variety of apps, salads and entrees. Definitely will not go back.
The bartender was fabulous but the atmosphere is called an austere when you walk in. They need more large booths so you get a better steakhouse feeling. Our porterhouse steak was cooked properly but missed on the flavor. We ordered many sides and they were not something that I had to re-strain from seconds.
We waited 20 minutes after we order our drinks to be served. We ordered wine with dinner which was served 10-15 minutes after dinner was served. We had similar experience with service last time we dined here as well. Food was good but service needs improvement
As usual McCormick & Schmick's Seafood is great place to eat - ALL of the staff were wonderful and friendly. The manager made sure we received a birthday dessert and stopped by a few times to check on us.
I don't know who made the decision but the bottle of wine we ordered (our favorite for $65) was out. I then ordered the wine that our waiter recommended but changed my mind a few minuets later to one we had before and loved ($95) I figured once a year isn't going to break the bank. When we received the bill the wine was listed correctly but the price reflected our first choice. We were very surprised that someone and I don't know who made the decision to charge us the lesser price because they were out. THAT is just another reason for us to love McCormick & Schmick's Seafood.
Wait staff did not come to greet us for at least 10 minutes in a nearly empty restaurant.
Not worth the aggravation
Steaks were terrible and had no taste, and the restaurant ran out of A1 steaksauce. We were charged over $4 for kids drinks, $4 for seltzer water (machine soda water) and $6 for a salad with only lettuce. Terrible experience, especially for what you pay.
Fantastic food , service was sensational!
My meal of parmesean crusted flounder lacked any flavor. My wife's meal was overcooked and chewy the first time, and just tasted bad the second time. The soda was flat tasting. The appetizer, and my wife's drink were the only good things about the food.
We enjoyed a nice dining experience. There was a very loud man in the bar, but he was removed promptly.
We were going out with friends to see Les Miserables @ PPAC and selected McCormick & Schmick's for dinner before the theater. They were training our waiter and the trainer wasn't paying enough attention so we ended up with 3 pieces of bread for 4 people having dinner. We had to ask twice for more bread. The trainer was a very nice guy but had horrendous breath and whenever he was near the table the smell was overwhelming. We started with oysters - whoever shucks the oysters there does not do a good job and we had little pieces of shells in every oyster. We also ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer - when we asked the trainer, he told us they were quite large but when they came they were no where near large in any of our opinion and they looked like they had been sitting out unrefrigerated all day - we sent them back (they willingly took them back and removed them from the bill). My wife asked for mashed potatoes instead of french fries and on a $32 plate of 2 crab cakes, the mashed potatoes turned out to be instant. When we got the bill, we had been charged for 2 crab cake dinners - 1 with mashed potatoes and 1 with french fries (which we did not have). Overall, we thought this dinner was a total letdown. Luckily Les Misearables was amazing to compensate for the very disappointing start to our night out on the town....
Food tasted like frozen fish sticks. Had trouble when being seated. I had a reservation and when I arrived the restaurant was empty. They sat me at the bar. I told them I didn’t want to sit by the bar. They said those tables where for people with reservations. I told them I had a reservation. They gave me a hard time but finally changed our table. This restaurant is overpriced for the poor quality of the food they serve. The only good thing about this place was our server was excellent.
Dinner came out cold and over cooked. One person in our group didn't get his dinner until after everyone was finished because it was wrong initially. And it was way over cooked. Not the server's fault but the chef's
