Went as part of Landry's select birthday rewards, made reservations didn't get wished a happy birthday, food was cold and under cooked. Expensive and waiter was very slow.
We always enjoy dining here; however, this visit was somewhat disappointing. The shrimp cocktail which normally is the best anywhere left much to be desired. They were soggy and not the usual plump jumbo shrimp. Our party of 7 enjoyed the filet mignon (all cooked to perfection), the lump crab stuffed shrimp, the mac and cheese, simply grilled salmon and lobster tails. All entrees get a thumbs up; however, the lobster tails were very small. One of our party was celebrating her 21st birthday. A complimentary chocolate lava cake was served with a scoop of ice cream. As with our last experience, service was very slow especially on the day after New Year's Day (Jan 2) when the restaurant was rather empty. The bread took a long time coming and our group of 7 was seated in what seemed like the hallway to the bar. With so many empty tables, I'm sure they could have merged some tables to accommodate our party of 7 in the middle of the restaurant closer to the windows. Notwithstanding the foregoing, this restaurant does provides quality and delicious meals on a consistent basis.
Warm atmosphere, needs to be a better bargain or execute more consistently to be a good value.
Since the restaurant is in the Biltmore Hotel, it has 2 entrances, one from the street, one from the hotel. Since it was a slow Saturday between Christmas and New Years, they decided not to have a hostess at the street entrance, which is how we entered. This is OK, as long as you have some way of helping guests find their way - a sign, a watchful bartender - something. We were greeted with an empty stretch of the bar piled with lots of dirty dishes and no bartender in site. After a while (too long) someone came over and walked us to the other entrance. He explained that he had caught sight of us from the kitchen. Kudos to him for being customer driven and coming all the way out to help us, but greeting customers should not be left to chance at a nice restaurant.
We were seated at a nice booth and we had fun reviewing the menu. It's a nice restaurant but they have items on the menu you might find at your favorite clam shack (in addition to fancier items).
Some of the local oysters we ordered were sandy, and we brought this to the waitress' attention but nothing was done or offered to correct that. I don't think I've ever had sand in an OYSTER before, steamers, but not raw oysters.
I had to tell them how to make a Boulevardier, which they did just fine. This is not the most common drink these days, but hardly exotic. It's not a big deal, but again, it's a fairly expensive place.
I had the lobster tails, they were good, and I confess I enjoyed the mashed potatoes too, but they were a little bit of a "chain restaurant cheese bomb". Could possible tweak them a bit.
My wife had seared tuna and her mashed potatoes had wasabi in them. That really worked and she really enjoyed her dish
Dessert was chocolate mousse cake - not sure, but I don't think it is supposed to be served so cold. It was good though.
Even on a busy night like tonight (Christmas night), the service and food was still excellent!
Christmas Dinner for our family of four was excellent.
We celebrated Christmas at the restaurant and had a very good time. Bianca, our waitress, was attentive and personable even though the restaurant was very busy. The food was perfectly cooked. Especially noteworthy were the cook on the lobster tails with the surf and turf.
Ate at M&S on Xmas, meal was exceptional as was wine....an A+! Service was spotty, waitress seemed rushed and harried, distracted!
Chose this establishment for our Christmas dinner. Don’t usually eat out on the holidays but wanted a change. Server was okay. He was busy and being in the industry myself knew what he was going through. Food was very overpriced and poorly plated. Very small filet and the lobster tails were extremely dry. Besides the whole entree being cold drinks took an obscene amount of time. I NEVER review restaurants again because I’m in the industry but after my Christmas dinner going sour I needed to.
Food was very delicious. Room and ambiance are very nice.
Took a long time for drinks. Asked to sub mashed potatoes for a side, waiter said absolutely, but dish came with no mash and then we were charged for a side of mash. Asked for plain burger with American cheese for our son...got burger with cheddar and Lettuce and tomato... also ordered 1 milk for kids w 2 cups (since kids frequently spill a Full glass of milk)...out came 2 cups of milk filled to the brim. Food is good but just a lot of little mix ups and slow to get drinks/refills when they weren’t that busy.
I truly feel bad for whoever owns this restaurant. They have no idea how bad the service is behind their back. If they are aware, then keep doing what you think is working, but this place can be much more successful then it is. That’s from Someone who’s been in fine dining for a long time.
Our restaurant meal on Thanksgiving turned out quite well. It was packed and our table was right next to the entrance to the kitchen. The staff were all very cordial and attentive. Would recommend M & S again in a heartbeat.
McCormick and Schmick has always been one of my favorites.
Staff has always been friendly (especially Chris who works very hard to please)
Dinner was delicious. Nothing left on our plates! I also noticed that the surrounding tables had empty plates! Hats off to the chef for doing a great job on a busy holiday. Every seat was taken in the restaurant. My only complaint would be the noise level, but as I said it was a full house!!
We were repeat customers. That said, I never got my appetizer, we waited over 45 minutes between ordering and getting our food, and my wife’s belly clams were awful. On the positive side, my scallops were good and they paid attention to my allergy issue. I won’t return.
Great food, fine service and a great environment for business or pleasure
Treated us to Veteran's Day meal for gratis. It was excellent quality and the ambiance was very nice.
Dawn, the waitress did an excellent job taking care of our needs.
Dinner was delicious! Excellent selection of wine and spirits. Wait staff very attentive!
Once again as veterans we really appreciate the opportunity to be your guest for the holiday. Food/service/staff - everything was exemplary.
I went there on Veterans Day and had grilled salmon which was very good. Out of all places to dine for free on Veterans Day, this is most upscale.
Excellent dinner following the theater. Service was very good.
The food was outstanding, service was pretty average and it was nice, but definitely felt like a hotel restaurant- had higher expectations.
Great food and ambiance.
The food was great, but service was a bit lacking. It was my husband's birthday so I made a reservation for him here as he's an avid fan of a good steak and great seafood. Our server was fairly new, and so we needed to remind our server about certain things we ordered a couple of times. Water was not poured immediately, we had to ask. We had to ask for bread. We had to ask for plates to be cleared. My husband had to ask a couple of times for the glass of wine he ordered. The final straw to a fairly lackluster evening was that my youngest son had a mishap while walking out of the bathroom. A server carrying a stack of plates and walking rapidly, bumped into my son pretty hard. His meal was taken care of by the manager and while we appreciated the gesture by the manager, my son's ensuing discomfort put a damper on the evening for us.
We've patronized this establishment before, gotten much better service and left with a better experience than this last visit.
Enjoyed a very early pre-sporting event dinner at high top table in bar. No hostess on hand to seat us, but bartender took just right care of us. Coconut shrimp very tasty start. Parmesan crusted flounder very good portion and nice and crispy. Butternut squash risotto served with not too creamy but still tasty. Herb crusted red snapper also very good with abundant roasted vegetables.
Expensive and not good! Waited a long time to receive cocktails, food was subpar, restaurant was cold and service was friendly but slow
I've been to this chain before and it was always good. The servers were friendly. However, I went for a good steak. Probably not the best choice. The steak was very expensive for the size and taste. I don't mind spending for a steak. I am a fan of Ruth Chris, Dickie Brennans, Flemmings, etc... I went on a weeknight, the restaurant was slow. The service was good, I was just extremely disappointed in my steak......
Excellent in every regard.
Chef Brady came to table and discussed options in depth and then perfectly fulfilled our orders.
This restaurant is fine. They do just enough to justify the price of the food. There are better options in this price range. And definitely better options in and around Providence for local seafood.
Not what I expected. The booths are weird and the too hard and too large padding pitch you forward. Every booth is "tight", not elegant feeling. The bathroom is down a steep flight of stairs and there was debris on the stairs and on the bathroom floor. Our server asked us if we were ready to order, even though she witnessed us being seated literally one second prior. Other tables had fabulous service, suggestions, warm bread, return service....our server was either new or having personal issues. The asparagus was forgotten and delivered after we were done eating, when we pointed it out when the food was delivered. The desserts do not come out looking anything like the menu. I expected better. I have friends that love it at M&S, we will give it another try on another night. The filet was cooked perfectly.
We've been several times and it is consistently excellent - fresh premium seafood that's well prepared, often with creative touches. The service is outstanding, friendly and not stuffy, but very attentive. The drinks are excellent, appetizers were very good and came quickly, and we enjoyed a leisurely dinner immensely.
Our meal and drinks were absolutely delicious and Carvel was a wonderful server! One small but persistent drawback was that the booth benches felt extremely short, and to sit all the way back in them forced us to lean forward. If we return, I'd request table or bar seating instead.
Overall the experience was nice. We had to dinner mixups which were quickly resolved by the waitress and the head chef.
Our waiter Chris and Ryan the GM were very friendly and provided very good service. I didn't give 5 stars because I thought the service should have been better given it's a pricey high-end restaurant. There should have been some attending to water and bread refills as well as clearing the table and clearing any crumbs between courses.
The food was very good, especially the crab cake and dessert bag.
I would go back but not before trying other similarly priced restaurants in the area.
Over priced terrible food Would have been better off at McDonald’s
Expensive and the food was mediocre
Our 1st visit. Our overall experience was good. I must suggest the Proceso sangria, so good.
The food was excellent, jumbo shrimp cocktail, New England clam chowda ( I’m from Boston), were our appetizers. Our main dish was the seared scallops and the lump crab stuffed shrimp with a side of grilled asparagus. The apps and main course were delicious. We were asked by a chef, Ryan, how our meal was and if we were satisfied. This is a nice touch. Ryan, did mention a promotion for repeat visit and that our server would explain further, this didn’t happen which is too bad, I was interested.
Unfortunately we were never told our server’s name, he was very friendly, however a little slow. Not sure if this was his fault or if they were understaffed. I did notice bread being served to a table after we were eating, none was offered to us,
Overall, I will go back, not sure if my husband feels the same.
One quiet Sun lunch with my friend, visiting Providence. Food was great, especially the chocolate bag dessert, enough for 3 people sharing. Service was perfect, we ate 2 1/2 hours, lovely..
