McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Pittsburgh Downtown Ratings and Reviews
Things were okay during our visit. We were greeted by a very nice server and got our drink orders. Then this gentleman came over and was very abrasive with a dry sense of humor. He asked us to order, I asked to start with oysters. He said well, witch ones with attitude. All night he talked down to us as if we did not belong. The calamari was amazing. The beef medallions were awful. Not cooked correct, dry, and chewy. The shrimp and crab stuffed salmon was okay but the stuffing was runny. When we told the server about the beef he did not apologize just said wanna give this another try. We said no and a manager came over. He had no personality. He did not offer to take it off the bill but promptly the server removed it leaving my mom with nothing to eat but paying for a dish that was cooked incorrect. Even if she did not want anything else you could have done something for her. The best part was the chocolate silk cake. The cake alone will not bring us back. I will stick to Eddie Merlots, Red, or Capital Grille before coming back.
Some good, but unfortunately mainly bad. I'm not one to normally do a negative review, but my friend and I were very disappointed with our meals. My friend's entree didn't come with all of the items listed and the side of potatoes it had were pretty burnt and very sparse. My dessert also tasted freezer burnt. Our server was great and very friendly though! All in all, the food, in my opinion, certainly was not worth the $100+ that was spent. This was my second try to the restaurant, and I do not think I will be back.
The service was slow but this was understandable for New Year's Eve. The place was very busy but the ambiance was festive and the food was OK. I was impressed by how jovial the waiters and waitresses were even though they were so busy. Overall the dinner was fine and the price was reasonable
6 of us dined there on New Years Eve, we were looking for something a little fancy for the evening. Unfortunately, we would have had a better experience at a bar/pub. After waiting for over 1/2 an hour for our reserved table to be ready, we were seated at a very awkward table setting with 2 of us kind of being "left-out. The extender on the table kept coming "un-latched" and hitting my husband in the leg. We placed our drink order, along with our appetizer order. The appetizer arrived way before our drinks did. The waiter attributed this to the bar being " slammed". However, my husband had to go to the bar, when the waiter didn't return to have my drink re-made, due to the overwhelming amount of fireball in the drink that should have contained more Angry Orchard, the bar was basically dead. The bartender proceeded to ask my husband what the problem was after he told her. She stated she made the drink right and what did he want her to do. The other bar tender, quickly asked her to re-make the drink, to which she huffed and basically made it the same. The martini that was order with NO vermouth, clearly had plenty in it, the waiter did finally arrive to our table to correct that drink. We place our food order, and waited for over an hour for our dishes to arrive. In that time, I had went to use the restroom, and couldn't even use them due to the un-cleanliness! 2 stalls didn't even have toilet paper, and there was toilet paper on the ground, napkins all over the floor and the garbage overflowing. It was gross! We had to ask our server for some bread, while we waited for our food, the bread came at the same time as our food. We were given no knives to cut our steaks with or to butter the bread with. A person in our group actually had to go get knives from the hostess, its a steak place.. how do you not give knives! My fries were soggy and room temperature. My husbands pasta was not cooked and some were actually "crunchy". Will not be back ever!
We went to McCormick & Schmick's for dinner on New Year's Eve. We were seated on time for our reservation, but were not served for 10 minutes. 25 minutes later, our party still did not have their drinks, nor was our order taken. Most of the night, more than half of the table was without drinks or water, and one of my party was not served their salad at all. I understand things being slow on a holiday, but there was no attention paid to our table, even as the restaurant slowed down. I would not recommend this restaurant if you are interested in a quality dining experience.
We very much enjoyed our food! However, our service was less than enjoyable... after waiting over an hour for a drink, we began to get frustrated. In total, our entire meal took about 3 hours. It was New Year’s Eve, which is understandably busy, but with having a reservation, I was a bit disappointed with our service. Regardless of all of that, i did very much enjoy my meal and would definitely recommend the food, but maybe not on a holiday.
We were seated right away despite arriving almost a half hour early for our reservation. It was New Years Eve so we knew it would be busy and a wait was likely. Our waiter came immediately and got our drinks. My husbands soup also came out very quickly. We then waited over an hour for our meals. Waiter was very apologetic saying the kitchen was backed up. Our meals were decent but not worth the price. Portions are tiny compared to what you get other places.
They seemed to be understaffed. Aside from the fact that the sides were brought to the table, after we finished eating (we ate super slow but the food was getting cold), we had to ask for a desert menu AND after ordering port wine and one slice of cheesecake, we had to wait about 20 minutes for it. For the price, we expected WAY better service.
Very busy NYE as expected. Service was good but long wait for a drink from the bar. Ended up not getting our drinks. Ordered filet and it was over cooked. Problem in the kitchen that the employees brought out into the dining room. Clearly the staff was not happy and overwhelmed.
M&S has been a favorite for all of our occasions. Tonight we had an absolute horrible meal. Our Calamari came over done not to mention it had a shrimp fried with it. Thankfully my daughter saw it first and I didn’t grab it. I would have spent Christmas in the ER. All of our food was not the quality we have had it in the past. My food was not edible. I am sad we spent that much money and our food would have been better at Chipotle.
I've dined at McCormick & Schmick's about 4 times. The food is always very good and the restaurant is very nice. On my most recent visit though, there were some issues with service. The restaurant was very busy, which I think is normal for the time of year (we went for a family Christmas dinner on 12/22). While I understand it was a busy time, we sat at our table for an hour and 20 minutes before receiving our food. There were only 4 at our table, so the wait time was excessive. Once we received the bill, it was another 20 minutes for them to just pick up our card and complete the transaction. In all, it took over 2 hours, which I think is excessive for 4 people. Luckily we didn't have to be anywhere, so we were able to put up with the wait. Our server was very polite, but kept saying "it should only be a few more minutes" the whole evening. Once the food did come out, it was good but luke warm. We didn't send it back to be heated up because we didn't want to wait any longer than we already had.
We made reservations an hour and 45 minutrs before a show. We were saetef in time and ordered our food within 20 to 25 minutes. We had to wait almost an hour for our food to be served and were unable to eat it at the restaurant because we had to leave for a show that was starting in 15 minutes.
One of our favorite places to go before seeing a show. However, the service was not up to par. I was not able to attend in person, so my daughter and her boyfriend went instead. They are both under 21. Perhaps that is why the server did not give them the same attention. They were almost late for a 7pm show. Very disappointing.
The food is what saved this from being 1 star. Some of the worst service I have ever had. The server was slow, disappeared for long stretches at a time to somewhere that I could not even flag him down. He also talked to soft you couldn't hear him and was very awkward. Which is fine unless your job requires you to talk to people. He was also training another guy who obviously is learning a lot from him because he was the exact same way. Place was not even 25% full, yet we waited 10 minutes after sitting down to even be acknowledged and asked if water was ok. 10 more minutes until the water was brought to us. After the waiter he was training poured the water he walked away before we could even say we wanted to order. 10 more minutes to come back to take our order. 30 minutes for the food to come out after we ordered. 10 more minutes to bring us the check after our plates were taken. We tried to pay with a card but both of them had completely disappeared as usual so we paid with cash so we could just leave. The food was great but I was not happy about spending almost 2 hours on my lunch hour. Cant even begin to imagine how long it would have taken had I been there on a day where it was even slightly busy.
Wouldn’t return or recommend. Waited an hour to be seated for our reservation. Food was good but service was very slow. Waiter had too many tables and not enough time to be attentive to each of his tables. Sat down for at least 10-15 minutes before waiter came over and then again to get and pay the bill. Never came over to see how the food turned out or see if we wanted another round of drinks. Very poor service.
Good food despite long delay between ordering and being served. The evening was very busy but it was over an hour before we got our steak dinners and then they forgot a lobster tail we ordered with it. The server was attentive and apologetic and did take it off the final bill but it was a little disappointing. Good thing the taste of the food made up for it. The wine list offers a large selection. The Don Miguel Malbec was very good with the steaks.
Our party was there on a Saturday. There seemed to be 2 large parties and all attention was focused on them. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks and then another 30 before dinner. They actually carried the table beside us away leaving chairs blocking the aisle as we watched diners pick them up and move them to get through. The second drink ordered never arrived and when the server said it would be a little while more it was cancelled. Dinner itself was good, but not enough to make up for the rest of the evening.
I dined here pre-theater with my 7-year-old son. They have a great children's menu, which is not something you see at many fine-dining establishments. Our server was very kind and attentive, and, while I am not overwhelmed by their menu choices (I prefer less traditional cuisine,) I enjoyed what I ordered, and my son's fish and chips were very good. Overall, I would definitely recommend it for a place downtown where you can go with children!
Our server Logan and the rest of the staff made our visit a very special experience. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and they made it a very special evening. We loved our dishes, which were the crab cakes and the flounder. Service and food were wonderful! Highly recommend this restaurant to otherse.
Reserved a table at noon for a business meeting. We were seated, ordered our drinks and meals by 12:10pm. It took 30 minutes just for our lobster bisque to arrive then another 35 minutes for our meals to arrive. This is after I asked twice for our server to check on the meals. The service itself was not bad and the food was exceptional, but it should not take this long for a lunch especially when the restaurant was not full.
