McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Pittsburgh Downtown Ratings and Reviews
We always enjoy McCormick and & Schmick's. Friday night the food and drinks were even better than usual. Our seating was ok, we had a table in the middle of the room, but the booths in the back are the best, especially for special occasions. We were celebrating our anniversary so a quiet booth would have been nice.
We went here for Valentine's Day. We were seated right on time, so it being packed, we were surprised! It took around 10 minutes for the waiter to come over. He apologized and brought us back water. He took our drink orders, as we ordered sparkling; however, he seemed confused when we asked for flute glasses instead of the red wine glasses that he brought over. The sparkling rose was warm when he brought it over. The manager came to the table and took over. The waiter stated that he wasn't new, but he seemed rather clueless as to what he should be doing. My other problem that I had was that we were still in the middle of our salads when they brought over our entrees. The manager seemed more attentive than the server was. Food was good, not great, but good!
Great experience! We were immediately seated. We waited an expectable amount of time, not a problem and especially on Valentine’s Day. Everyone was friendly.
The best part is we were given a dessert for waiting and being patient. This was over the top service.
I requested a booth when i made the reservation. We were sat at a table right by the server station and the staff kept congregating right behind me in groups. Our waiter was very inexperienced and forgot to bring me coffee two different times so I had to keep asking. He spilled wine on the table when serving from the bottle. When he brought the entrees he stood at the table and announced the items on each plate because he couldn’t remember when the two of us at the table ordered. Once we paid he never returned to check on the coffee or water.
Dinner for two was $160 with the bottle of wine. I’m disappointed having spent that for such an undesirable experience.
Bad experience. Poor service.
I was very disappointed that after I ordered Almond crusted trout with butternut squash orzo, I was served 2 small wedges of plain white fish on top of mashed potatoes with green beans which was identical to my husband's gluten-free signature flounder. The waitress offered to take back the meal, but I wasn't interested in waiting for the correct meal while my husband ate his. We were offered a dessert, which I hadn't planned to get. But I did get the chocolate bag because it was gluten free to share it with my husband. That didn't change my disappointment with mashed potatoes instead of butternut squash orzo.
It was Valentines Day and my Anniversary we had dinner with another couple. Our server was awesome the food was very good. My vegetables were both undercooked after sending them back. I had yo send a second one back twice. This wS a small matter everything ordered wad delicious . The desserts were well worth the calories. We had a wonderful evening.
They overbooked for our 6:45 reservation, we waited about 25 minutes. But the staff was gracious about it. Our server, Jennifer, was very accommodating in every way. She asked if we had a theater date in case we had to hurry. Comfortable ambience, no rush, nice crowd. Food was respectable.
We had a very disappointing experience. When we arrived, we were asked to dine in the bar area instead of the main room (despite having a reservation) as we were told there were not going to be any tables available for quite awhile. We did clearly communicate that we were heading to a show after our meal and were under a time constraint but once sat, it took 20 - 25 minutes before a server came by our table and then another 60 minutes before our meals actually arrived. The food we received was underwhelming in quality and not at all what we were expecting given the reputation of McCormick's & Schmick restaurants. Slow service, sub-par food quality and poor value overall. I do not recommend this restaurant and we will not be returning in the future.
This was my first time at the downtown restaurant and will probably be my last. Service was very poor. The waiter did not even tell us his name, let alone check on us more than once during the meal. We had to ask to have our waters filled and ask for more drinks. We had to wait over 45 minutes to have our food brought to us, as we watched every table who were seated after us get their food. When the waiter realized we hadn't gotten our food, he said "they're re-making it now, it should be out in 5 minutes" as someone forgot the food! Once the food did arrive it was very subpar and not worth the money. Maybe it's because it's a chain restaurant. The manager (who was walking around all evening) asked how our night has been and when we expressed our concerns, he said "ok thanks for the input" and walked away. When you are spending $25+ on a meal, you expect it to be a great experience. Overall poor experience.
Nice downtown restaurant that has a nice ambiance, excellent food and great service. Had the filet and stuffed salmon which were absolutely divine. Somewhat expensive especially the drinks which is typically the case downtown. Much better value than the other high-end downtown restaurants that we patron.
The wait staff was not attentive; She did not know how to use the cork screw to open the wine. I would expect the company to at least train their staff. I ordered raw oysters and received baked oysters. The raw oysters took 15 minutes to deliver after the error was identified. She ten brought the wrong soup course. Stuffed mushroom appetizer was cold and had no taste. Filet was tender but presentation was not appetizing. I was expecting great food and great service. McCormick & Schmick provided neither. Don't waste your time and money going to this establishment.
Rather disappointing. Server forgot my husbands soup and just brought the entree (so therefor we cancelled the soup) my orzo was undercooked and crunchy and his broccoli side dish was cold. Portions were small so we got dessert and split the “chocolate bag”; an awkward, hard to eat, hollow “bag” of chocolate filled with whipped cream with a few strawberries on the side. It was weird. Went to the restroom and the bathroom stalls were kinda grimy too-smears all over the stalls, broken locks and dirt encrusted in the door creases. When a restaurant charges $30-40 per entree, they really should have their act together better than this place does. Won’t be back-rather spend the money at Eddie V’s or another seafood specialist.
Disappointed in the menu selection and options. Not having valet parking was a disappointment. The Calamari appetizer had a lot of fillers, entree's were satisfactory but not worthy of the cost. Restaurant seems to have gone down hill over the course of the last few years.
This was our first time at the downtown location. Food was delicious, a bit pricey, but you don't go there for a bargain meal. Everyone in our party rated their entrees and appetizers as excellent. Also the drinks and the chocolate silk pie. Atmosphere and decor are very nice. Only disappointment was the place was nearly empty at 7:00 pm on a Friday. We're accustomed to the South Side location where there's always a lively crowd.
WE STOPPED AT M&S DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH AND PROCEEDED TO SIT IN THE BAR AREA SINCE WE INTENDED TO GO TO A SHOW LATER THAT EVENING. UNFORTUNATELY THE ONLY TABLE AVAILABLE IN THE BAR AREA WAS AN UNCLEANED ONE NEAR THE DOOR. THE WAITSTAFF WAS UNDERSTAFFED. WE HAD TO HAVE OUR MEAL HANDLED BY THE MANAGER. THE FOOD WAS AS USUAL EXCELLENT. TOO BAD THEY WERE SEVERELY SHORTHANDED IN THE BAR AREA.
WE WILL GO BACK AND GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE THOUGH.
Took our mother for 76th birthday dinner. Unfortunately, she did not enjoy her flounder/mashed potatoes/green beans meal. She didn't find the flounder very tasty, and the potatoes were bland, to her taste. I'm not a seafood person, so my expectations were low. I was pleased with my salad, although the portion was small compared to similar restaurants at which I've dined. Also had brussel sprouts and broccoli which were both so-so. Brother and sister-in-law had ultimate seafood plates and were very pleased with their meals. The highlight was dessert. A complimentary creme brulee was provided for mom while the rest of us enjoyed an apple pie walnut upside down thingy. To die for!!!! It was a tough $200 to spend (No alcohol, 1 soft drink), but our server and the great atmosphere helped make it easier to swallow. 😊
We arrived at 6:15 and explained to our server that we were going to a show that began at 8:00 pm which should have been more than enough time to enjoy a leisurely dinner. Unfortunately this was not the case. It took a good twenty minutes for our drinks to be served, another 20 minutes for our salads to arrive. Our entrees were placed in front of us at 7:30. Neither of the ladies in our party finished their entrees as we had to leave for the theatre at 7:45. Neither our server or the manager seemed he least bit concerned that we were being inconvenienced. Fortunately there are many other restaurants in town to choose from so we won’t be returning to this one anytime soon.
Our waiter was amazing. He knew the ins and outs of the menu and drinks to recommend. His ability to carry casual conversation, yet maintain professionalism was impeccable. The food was, hands down, one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I will definitely be back!
