McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
The food off the menu was good. The turkey plate was average to below average - turkey dry, gravy gelatinous. While we understand the restaurant was busy they should have taken the time to clean it. The floor was disgusting, the bathroom needed attention, the tables were not wiped well. The waiter brought our check before our dessert was served.
I was disappointed we reserved a seat and got put at an awkward 4 person table. The ambience and music were nice and clean but it was super cold inside so we couldn't wait to get out of there. The staff was nice and our server was exceptional. He was timely and even noticed the knife he brought was dirty so he took it back without us saying anything. The food was okay. My appetizer was t tasteless(crab mangos and avacado)..nothing special besides the looks and freshness appealed. Creative but bland. The lobster was cooked and seasoned perfectly whereas the filet was bland and charred on the outside. My date's clam chowder was phenomenal and her pasta was exceptional. It was about the quality of red lobster seafood but 3x expensive. Just a waste of money in my opinion. Tipped the waiter 40 dollars because he was charming.
This was my first time at this restaurant. The food and environment were wonderful. Our server was either new to serving or was having a very bad night. We were seated for 10 minutes without a server and finally had to ask someone to get her. She asked weird questions. We had to wait for bread after our meal arrived. She asked if we wanted dessert before we finished our meal. She really acted like she didn't know how to be a server. At an upscale restaurant like this, I was surprised and would think you would be hiring quality people with experience.
My husband was looking for a nice place for my birthday dinner. We had always wondered what your restaurant would be like so decided to try it. We were greeted by several of your staff all the way to our table... we felt like we were famous! Our table had a nice view outside and the food was delicious so it was a huge success. Thank you!
We went here for my birthday dinner. This place feels special. Stained glass rotunda and there was also a stained glass panel of the battleship Missouri ( Mighty Mo ).
We started with the Calamari and it was excellent. Very tender with a light, crispy batter and two dipping sauces; a marinara and an aioli.
Next we each had the Surf & Turf. The tenderloin was perfectly cooked to medium with just a slight crust / sear on the outside but not overly seasoned. That was perfect for my wife but I could have used a bit more. The Bordelaise sauce was rich & thick. The Lobster tail was firm but tender and had good flavor.
Surf & Turf always presents a bit of an issue with me when choosing which wine to have. Our server suggested the Wine Feature which was a Pinot Noir from Oregon. This wine was what I call "soft'. Medium body, not too fruity with very low tannin. It went very well with the tenderloin and ok with the lobster. Might try a sparkling Rose next time.
For dessert my wife chose the Creme Brulee and I had the Upside-Down Walnut Apple Pie. The top of the Creme Brulee was overly caramelized and a bit burnt tasting. The Apple pie was warm and simply fabulous.
Overall, a very pleasant experience.
The food is exquisite, however, it is extremely loud and the table we were sat at had way too much traffic going back and forth. Made it very difficult to relax and enjoy the food. Our waitress was obviously having a bad day and we were experiencing her bad attitude from the second she approached our table. This is not an inexpensive lunch, typically averages $55 per person without drinks, so it would really have made it better if the server was a bit nicer. We felt like we were really putting her out by her having to work that day.
Always make a reservation at this location.
The steak and lobster were both overcook to be at 10:00am. My Blackened Fettucinie had too many big chunks of green pepper which were not stated on the menu. If I were the cook, I would have chopped all the peppers (green and yellow) into smaller pieces. I removed almost a small plate full of green peppers. I'm not sure if there was a rush due to the Veteran Day Meal. The waitress was really good, just too chipper for an early morning. Although our experience wasn't a good one, I would go back to give it another try. I really can't complain too much because the Blackened Fettucinie was a Veterans Day Thank you. I really appreciate the meal.
We took our son and his family for a birthday dinner. It was a miserable evening. We were herded like cattle, rushed to the point of the wait staff bring our entrees without removing the appetizer plates or the salads, and even trying to set my entree on top of the empty appetizer plate. My son confronted the server asking him to slow down and please speak quieter because he was loud and pushy. His response was to tell us they were really busy, and continue to rush us. We repeatedly had to ask for things like silverware and water and the forgotten vegetable sides.. our 12 year old granddaughter asked me if the servers at nice restaurants are always in a hurry because “this place just makes people nervous”. We are seafood lovers and live in a Plaza condo, but won’t be returning to McCormicks. We paid our bill but felt the almost $500 evening was an unpleasant experience.
The chocolate bag dessert arrived at the table less than half full. When I ask the server why it wasn’t the usual size, he reminded me they were very busy and rushed. At that point I just wanted the evening to be over!!!
What was once a nice restaurant now feels like a tourist trap with poorly trained staff and very sloppy service.
went for a birthday, which we put on our notes in open table. however, the host failed to tell the waiter! that meant he did not know, did not ask about it, and no special treatment --:( which we were hoping for. food was good. waitress was in training, and brand new, but her trainer was very good. expensive so be ready.
