McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Edina Ratings and Reviews
We have gone to McCormick & Schmick's a number of times in the past and have loved it. This time it was not the same experience. We went to the restaurant at 9 p.m. on a Friday and were celebrating our anniversary. No one acknowledged the occasion or formally referenced our reservation. The service was poor, and we waited quite a long time for our cocktails. The walleye was bland. The calamari appetizer was 80% breading. Not an impressive night out for a place we thought might be really be a great place to celebrate our anniversary.
The two of us decided on the same meal, the shrimp scampi. It was a 'catch-up' lunch and the waiter was kind enough to to let us talk and returned to the table several times before we were ready to order. The meal was cooked perfectly, shrimp tender and spaghetti al dente. We both ate every morsel. Delicious and just the right amount. A gr!eat place for lunch!
We typically enjoy M & S but this was our first time at this location. By large we enjoyed our experience and knew what to expect, with two exceptions.
1) The service was uncharacteristically poor. He was inattentive at best, and took an exceptional amount of time to bring requested items to the table. Most notably was the fact I ordered a beer to be served with the meal. He acknowledged when he served our meal that he would be getting my beer........................over 25 minutes later, my beer came.
2) We were dining with my in laws to celebrate Veterans Day and my FIL's service in the Navy. They requested decaf coffee after dinner to be served with dessert, and the coffee did not come until they were basically done with dessert. Then, to my surprise, the bill came and I saw that we we charged $3.30 EACH for their cups of coffee, which they say tasted like it had been brewing "a while".
My tip on the check was reflective of the quality of service.
Ironically, when we were getting up from the table, our server was right there on the spot and basically hovered while we were getting our jackets on to leave (we weren't leaving quickly as my in laws are older). This final engagement seemed fitting in that he was almost nowhere to be found for most of the meal, yet was hovering when it was time to collect the check.
It just left a bad taste in our mouths (and I don't mean from the aged decaf).
As mentioned above, normally a happy M&S customer, but this server should probably be serving at a Denny's.
The food was outstanding. We have frequented this establishment many times over several years and the last few times, the food was just "okay". Last night it was fantastic and when asking the hostess what had changed, we found they have a new chef. It is more than back to what it had been!
My husband received an email invitation for a free dinner for veterans and their spouses. I talked to the lady from there who called me to verify that we would be there about spouses getting their meal free. She stated yes.
When we got there, it was explained differently. Only certain instances did the spouse get a free meal. I did not qualify.
My husband's meal was not worthy of a free meal. I paid for my meal and it was excellent. Mixed reviews from us that night. The waiter did not come and check on us during our whole meal. Did not even freshen our water. We gave him a tip regardless.
Unfortunately the food was not very good. The beef medallions were just OK, but the green beans were rubbery and tasteless. The mashed potatoes were just average. Not sure how they can justify charging $30 for this meal.
The fish and chips were good but nothing spectacular.
My mother and I had a mother / daughter outing. We made an Open Table reservation and did get a wonderful booth. We very much enjoyed the ambiance. Staff was attentive, but seemed a bit rushed. We had ordered a glass of wine in the bar while we waited for a table. The waiter seemed disappointed that we already had our cocktail. (Lower average order for him.) .We asked for recommendations on the menu and the waiter told us "all was good". My mother ordered Ahi Tuna steak which was over done, dry. The swordfish I had was fine. For the prices, this was not an extraordinary meal. It was good, certainly, but not great.
Horrible service and lackluster food. I had contacted them previous to our visit about a deadly food allergy. I talked to 4 different people and was assured it would be taken care of it was not. My allergen was placed on everyone's plate including mine. Our drinks took 45+ mins to arrive and they were warm. Our food took forever and was cold. Worst dining experience i have had in a very long time. We will likely not return.
Left my lady sitting in waiting area. Did not ask her name or the name of party she was to meet. Subsequently, I was seated, waiting for her after giving her description and name to Hostess. No steak knife with stteakorder. New waitress, while very pleasant, seemed overwhelmed. Have been here numerous times. Normally, an excellent Restaurant.
Weekday lunch is quiet enough to have a nice conversation with your family members. Nice cozy booths for privacy. Beautiful decor.
The waiter was very helpful when it came to choosing items from the menu since this was our 1st visit here. The seafood dishes were amazing and the molten chocolate birthday cake so good! We would definitely visit again.
My 8oz filet had the texture of a ribeye but the flavor of a filet, don't know what it was. We also ordered a side of risotto, which was half the size we usually get for a side. The service was not the normal good service we get. We eat here often, we know how good the service and the food can be but not tonight.
I had the sea bass which was super good however it was not worth the price at all. I’ve had way better for less. The broth however was to die for. We had reservations at 7 and didn’t get a table until at least 20 minutes later. Once we sat down, the waiter took a long time in between everything. We didn’t get water until we ordered appetizers. The only time he started really showing up was once we got our food and at that point he interrupted us several times. I’ve had a few bad experiences there, I don’t think I’d go back.
