McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
Unfortunately, McCormick & Schmick no longer is a top choice of restaurants in Cincinnati. Service has been deplorable the last several visits, takes forever just to get water, and the value of the meal is sub-par. After waiting around 10 minutes for water, I ended up pouring water for our table.
The food was unsatisfactory. The Hawaiian tuna arrived thrown all over the plate and approximately 4 ounce of tuna was served on top of a heaping mound of wasabi mashed potatoes. The tuna was easily consumed in 4 bites; the entree was a disgrace.
There was a pile of dirty dishes stacked by the water pitchers for the entire duration of our meal.
Between horrible service and over priced meals, as a Landrys Select member, I can no longer recommend McCormick & Schmick.
Not the best night. We waited over two hours for our dinners and when we got them you could tell that they had sat for a long period of time and were cold. One person at our table had a medium rare steak that was well done. We got a lot of excuses but the reality was that that the server didn’t serve the meals in a timely manner even though we checked with him several times on the status of the meal. He also seldom checked with us for drinks etc. Not impressed and for the money we spent absolutely unacceptable.
We had a disappointing experience at McCormick and Schmicks.
Husband and I both ordered steaks, cooked medium well.
Husband's steak came cooked medium well, but it wasn't warm.
My filet was overcooked. Tough. My potatoes were not warm.
We had waited fairly long for our food, and they were busy so we opted to eat it as it was delivered. We were 3/4 of the way through our meal before the waiter reappeared to apologize for having not checked on us sooner. And he didn't really ask how the food was.
We haven't been there in years. Enjoyed it fully last time. This time, not so much.
Probably won't hurry back. Too many other great options in town.
I'm sorry to say that I was very disappointed in my meal. I ordered the parmesan crusted flounder. It was mostly breading and way overcooked. My guest ordered the trout and was also very disappointed as his meal too was way overcooked. To be fair, my wife ordered the crab stuffed shrimp and said it was good. Our service was very good, the staff was friendly and accommodating. Hope you have better luck than me.
The food is delicious. The service was terrible but the restaurant was very busy. Had a reservation at 6:15 pm the week before and we were given a happy hour menu and we ordered drinks and appetizers. I really enjoyed the restaurant. But on this visit the waiter said we could not get a happy hour drink or appetizer because we were not seated at bar. Very rude about it. Won’t be returning to restaurant
Nice treat before ice skating on fountain square (even though it was a 75 degree fall day)... Our seafood entrees were a veterans bonus=Thank you! We started with mussels, nice glass of Cabernet ... Kids got kids salmon... Wonderful balance & end to week. Some confusion & switching of wait staff, surprised to see a light day? slow on water, but we weren't in a hurry... Very respectful!
Service was wonderful. My flounder was way too salty. My husband’s chicken could have been better. The crab cake was delicious but not hot. My husband’s Cajun pasta was outstanding. A server (or expo) that wasn’t ours brought our meals out. She tried to give us fish & chips that wasn’t ours & my daughter’s child quesadilla was missing. Our server corrected it. I received an email saying we didn’t show to our reservation & informing me of the no show policy. I had to email back saying yes I did.
It was below my standards for a downtown Cincinnati restaurant. With others being so close (Boca, The Precinct, etc.) and far better experience, I would not dine here again. We were there for 2 hours total. Wait staff were standing around talking in the corners, waited 15 mins for our first round of drinks and bread. Stuffed shrimp was overcooked. I ordered a ribeye rare, it was cooked to a hair under medium. My wife and I agreed - it felt like there was just a ‘cook’ in the back assembling, vs. a chef. No quality assurance on the food.
The service was abysmal--no one came to our table to offer menus or water for almost 30 minutes. Then the food took a long time to come out. The waitress then hovers within 30 seconds of our getting the food to ask if everything was all right. The biggest issue is clearing plates from the table when not everyone is finished--that is a practice that must stop as it is incredibly rude and embarrassing to those who are not yest finished eating. On top of all this, the music was incredibly loud and we had to ask twice for them to turn the volume down.
Worst service ever. Asked what came with breakfast, was told nothing? Then potatoes came. We had to ask for coffee 3 times during our over a two hour brunch w 3 people. Our guest could not get our server to refill his water.
But worst of all a police car stopped outside the entrance with it's lights, that caused all of us migraine headaches.
Between the service, cool food it was just a bad place for a business meeting.
This was our first visit to McCormick and Schmicks. The atmosphere was very nice. The music was good and it was easy to hear each other. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass which is one of my favorites. It was delicious!! It was a good choice for celebrating our 26th anniversary!!
My husband I were excited to try McCormick and Schmicks for our 5 year anniversary dinner. We were ignored upon arrival where I then had to ask a host to check us in to which she said "I'm not on the clock right now", so I stood there awkwardly looking at her before she finally looked up our reservation. She couldn't find it even though it was through open table... I had to later dispute with open table that we were not a no show. Our server was fine but forgot to bring us water after I asked her twice. A few well dressed workers (managers?) walked past our table a few times with empty water glasses and still no water. The shrimp appetizer was delicious but honestly, better than my meal. I ordered the chefs special grilled mahi, dry and bland. Overall we still had a nice time but wasn't up to the star level I was expecting.
We had tickets to a show and decided to try this restaurant. We arrived on time for our 5:15 reservations and were promptly seated. Took 10 minutes for our server to come to our table, so first drinks took awhile to arrive. The food was all delicious, hot and well presented when it arrived. Half dozen blue point oysters started our dinner. Caesar salad and lobster bisque were both very good. Horseradish steelhead trout with Swiss chard was amazing. King crab legs with roasted potatoes was very filling. Did not save room for dessert. Overall we were pleased. Our server seemed overwhelmed. We would definitely go back.
Second time celebrating a special occasion here, first time their staff got it right, not so much this time. 1st time we enjoyed a personalized menus to highlight the occasion, expected the same this time but no personalized menu. Waiter wasn't rude, but we didn't catch him on his best day for sure.
If you are ok with exceptionally slow service from nice staff, then you may be fine. Fine dining is supposed to be relaxed, but there is a limit to how long I will wait for drinks. Dessert was not an option because we had show tickets, had 1.5 hours to eat, and did not have time. Food is great though.
Our experience celebrating my daughters' birthday was very pleasant. It was an extremely busy night but our wait was brief and the hostess was gracious. Our waiter was very attentive. My glazed salmon, spinach and asparagus was prepared well. My daughter really enjoyed the seafood trip despite her salmon being a little dry. And my husbands king crab leg was cooked to perfection.
