McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
Server was very slow and out-of-it / didn't listen and wasn't attentive at all. The value is already off at M&S (Mitchell's is MUCH better for good seafood / grilled mix), but the M&S location downtown is convenient. For the price, I would think servers would know how to serve - no bread until we asked & showed 20mins later, water glasses emptied and never refilled, and despite specifically saying I wanted red wine with dinner, I had to ask a busser to get the wine, and after about 15mins of waiting, well after main course had arrived, I was 1min from walking to the bar to order myself...the ahi tuna special was good, but hard to wash down without water and no wine.
We both enjoyed our salmon dinner, but the dessert put the icing on the cake so to speak. The Chocolate Bag was to die for, and splitting it made sense since it was gigantic. The service was excellent as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant. Definitely an upscale facility worthy of a return visit.
I had made reservations for dinner before my daughters' Father/Daughter dance. It was only for a party of 6 and it was a total disaster. The food was cold and took almost 90 minutes. We made the reservation for 2.5 hours before the dance and they were late because of the lack of service and kitchen ineptness. It breaks my heart that my daughter, a senior at her last father/daughter dance had such a bad experience.
The food was outstanding! We ordered a calamari appetizer, and it was hands down the best calamari I’ve had at a restaurant - the accompaniments really helped to set it apart. Our entrees and beverages were also great. Our server was very polite and provided adequate service, but wasn’t around very often. But other than that really minor thing, we really enjoyed the white or experience!
Great ambiance and being new to the city of Cincinnati it was an experience like non-other. The waiter was particularly spectacular, and was always present and even provided suggestions as to other places or sites to visit within the city to enhance my experience. Altogether I would say it is a place/restaurant that has had a lasting impression and I will be returning to enjoy the experience once again, 6 stars on a 5 star scale.
On a Tuesday night in middle of winter, it was VERY quiet (i.e. not busy). Service could have definitely been more attentive (e.g. to water refills) given the situation but highly appreciated server was not intrusive for this business meal. Calamari appetizer was huge and had some surprise other fried items in it (e.g. artichokes and jalapenos) and would have been fantastic, but the calamari were dried out. Expensive appetizer and party of 4 did not even finish. The bourbon salmon, spinach and mashed were all outstanding! Strange thing happened, some foreign food chunk fell out of servers sleeve and into one diners wine glass. Several of us saw the splash (not the server or the diner) but did not know what happened until got to bottom of the glass. I thought it was a chuck of cork, but the diner later found it was a chunk of food after the server proceeded to refill his empty wine glass again right on top of the chunk. We realized after he left the table, but did not bring to attention. Server should have seen it (that said lighting was VERY dim) and replaced with a clean glass immediately.
Overall, a good dining experience. One disappointment was the mussels, which--while not so noted on the menu--came with an too-hot/spicy broth. Excellent server willing to accommodate changes in offerings. Unlike many restaurants, this one has a floor plan that seems to control noise better so a conversation can be had at other than an shouting level.
Very nice meal. The lobster bisque is outstanding. My friend and I asked to split a wedge salad and this was done in the kitchen with each half having very nice plate presentation. My friend has a Landry card and we were surprised to receive $25 off for her birthday, which was in the middle of December.
We chose this restaurant for New Year's Eve celebration with friends. The food was fresh and tasty, but not as warm as it could have been. The service was not terribly attentive as we had to ask for bread and water refills. I understand this was a very busy night but those are pretty basic tasks for a server to complete.
The disappointing thing was the table we received. It was like eating on the interstate highway. It was right next to the bathrooms and in the main flow of traffic from the kitchen. It looked like it had been crammed into a space where there would not normally be a table. I feel like I made the reservation enough ahead of time that we should have been given a better location.
I went in thinking this was a top notch steakhouse and maybe that where I went wrong... expectations! By far the worst value for the money I have ever experienced! Service was good and waitress was very good. The food took a long time to arrive. Jumbo shrimp small, mushy and tasted frozen. The food in general was just blah, tasteless... there seemed to be no effort to create any sort of flavor profile (even the bread was blah) and the appearance on the plate was what I would expect at a low cost chain restaurant. Having tried some of the best steak houses, the was far from being one of them. For the money we were very disappointed and felt like we were ripped off!!! Shame on you McCormick & Schmicks! NEVER again!!!
We had a reservation and had to wait almost 30 min for our table. Waiter didn’t know the wine list. Appetizer was good. Meals came out and were terrible. Had to send both back. Even with new entrees, the “special” was nowhere near worth the $55 price. They comped us some things which is the only reason they got a rating of 3.
7:45 reservation on New Year's Eve ..... greeted & seated immediately ....server came quickly and did a VERY good job in the very busy restaurant .... drinks were better than most .... very good clam chowder appetizer .... salads were crisp and cold .... pan sauteed flounder & risotto were very hot & tasty and the bourbon-glazed salmon was also hot and flavorful.
Pricing was "normal" for a downtown location.
This was our first time at M&S and we will be back.
We made a reservation for early New Year's Eve day. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended dishes that were very tasty. The shrimp bite appetizer we ordered was even better than the stuffed mushrooms that we had last time that they didn't offer anymore. The steak was cooked to perfection and the salmon my partner had was a great dish as well. We have been there twice and never had bad food or service. It is a little pricey at $125 for an appetizer, 2 meals, 2 desserts, coffee and tea, but I loved the whole experience.
First time dining experience. Easy on line same day reservation for New Years Eve. Great service and friendly attentive staff. Food was excellent! Would recommend a side house salad to be attached to entree’s based on the meal prices. We had an unfortunate gnat that stayed at my glass of wine throughout but otherwise a wonderful place - will definitely return!
My lunch at McCormick and Schmick‘s was not a good experience. It seemed like the chef was dogging it on all of the selections I ordered. I sent the green beans back so that he would cook them instead of just warm them up. (Al dente does not mean raw, folks.) The crabcake instead of being made out of good size chunks of crabmeat, was made out of a pate of crab, and was served lukewarm. The chocolate silk pie, which should be light and smooth, had the consistency of cheesecake. That would not have been bad as long as they had called it cheesecake rather than chocolate silk. I would have to advise people to stay away from this place unless some major changes are made. Management did comp some of the items on the bill, but not the major items which were most of the problem.
We were seated quickly, in a booth, as requested. A waiter greeted us quickly and suggested appetizers, and took our drink orders. We got our drinks quickly, and placed orders for salads and dinners. After that, our waiter seemed to disappear. After nearly 25 minutes, he re-appeared with our dinners. I informed him we had not yet received our salads. My wife wanted hers, but I declined at that point. We asked to see the manager. The GM came to speak to us, apologized profusely, and offered to make amends the next time we dined. We will return next month for a birthday celebration, with hopes to have the service M&S is known for.
As a party of four out for a 2 hour escape on Christmas night, we were all pleased with the entire evening....The food, excellent , wine delicious and well priced....Service very good ( they seemed short staffed which is reasonable...it was Christmas.)...everyone working was pleasant and attentive....I nice way to finish off a wonderful holiday....We will be back next year...
I ate here with my family for Christmas dinner. Three people ordered the fish 'n chips and none seemed to finish it/like it. My husband's fish 'n chips seemed to have a bunch of fried crumbles thrown on top of it and he ended up having an allergic reaction after the meal (he has a shellfish allergy. The service was adequate but slow, e.g. we had to wait awhile for plates to be cleared, then had to ask for dessert menus before they were ever offered. They were out of two desserts, including the creme brulee, which was what this pregnant lady was craving! We were told it was their most popular dessert, so it seems like poor planning to be out of it at 7 p.m. on Christmas Day. Overall, the experience was okay - location and ambiance are good. We had gone to another restaurant the past few years, so this was the first time we ate here for Christmas. I can't say we will be coming back.
