McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Chicago - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Lobster salad good but not great . Service was poor at best , not sore why having utensils brought to table is a long process or why it takes 30 minutes to get the check after the server was told we were finished . However, decent food and good location for people watching on patio .
I waited a while before a hostess finally arrived to seat us, and she was not friendly. The seater was nice and the waitress was great, however, the plates were so skimpy, we were still hungry when we left, and I have an extra small stomach and always have a doggy bag when I eat out...not this visit. They were child portions and over priced, so I won't be back or recommending this restaurant.
I've often seen the ads, touting McCormick and Schmick's as one of the great steakhouses in the US, but that wasn't my opinion after visiting in Chicago this past weekend. Both service and food quality were as ordinary as any chain restaurant in a chain hotel. There's nothing wrong with that. Plenty of people enjoy ordinary hotel dining, but it's not what I usually seek out when there are so many other options nearby.
The place smelled horrible and our waitress was terrible. We got there at 6:30 pm and were able to find a table in the bar. We missed happy hour because our waitress finally showed up to take our order at 7:10. We ordered drinks and food and didn't get food until 8:30 pm..bar was relatively empty and restaurant had empty tables, so it wasn't that busy!
Outstanding meal! I had the shrimp and andouille Mac n cheese for my entree. I usually shy away from those as an entree because they are usually too rich. But this was perfect! The cheese sauce was light but flavorful with a nice tang to it. The spice of the sausage added a a burst of flavor with each bite. Excellent recommendation by our server! Also, one of best clam chowders I've ever had outside of Boston!
First time there, was really looking forward to it after seeing all the awards, but left quite disappointed.
1) Air conditioning was not working, but they did not notify me ahead of time. I would have been more impressed if they had done so so I could have made a reservation elsewhere and come back a different time (I would have since they were willing to contact me ahead of time - always reward honesty).
2) My wife's food was very good (according to her).
3) My steak was ordered medium, butterfly cut. It came out medium-well on the inside, and pretty close to completely well done on the outside.
4) Service level was very slow. Not sure if it only felt this way due to the temperature inside, but I know we went through our salad and 2 baskets of bread before our meal arrived. Also gave up on paying with a credit card that I had on the table for almost 10 minutes (clearly visible to the server) and just left cash instead.
5) They did give us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary.
They are a big name, so I am sure that this experience is definitely an exception rather than the rule, however my first impression is pretty poor.
Our server made the experience horrible. We were seated for 15 mins before we had to ask another server for water. She forgot about our table and our food was ready so by the time we tracked her down and she brought it to us, 2 of the 3 plates were cold. She asked if I wanted another drink, I replied yes and she said ok and came back 20 mins later with no drink and asked if we wanted desert. My fillet was overcooked and the bread they have was so hard that I didn't even want to dip it in my soup. I'd only return to sit at the bar
The service was good. To bad, the quality of the food was not up to par.
It seems you ever prepared the food, it was a after thought.
The salad was bland, the color of the clam chowder was grey, not white, needed more cream.
My wife's food was under seasoned and the preparation of the shrimp scampi was everything but that. The chef should find out how it is prepared.
The menu and food was good years ago.
This was not my first choice for the evening but couldn't get a reservation at several other places. I should have known when we went in. The place was pretty empty. The food was so so. Our server was polite but service was so slow. I noticed other diners being impatient. I should have realized that's what you get at a chain restaurant. I would never go back
The restaurant experience was okay. I was on a date and they decided to seat us two in a huge C booth. It was really awkward but made for a good laugh.
When ordering they have a good menu to choose from. I ordered the NYC sirloin and my boyfriend ordered the Filet Magnon. The waitress came out and gave him the sirloin while saying "here is your filet" and gave me the filet and said "here is your sirloin"... We thought that was odd coming from a nicer restaurant.
Finally the food was good. Not cooked evenly at all and was warm. My only issue with this is if I am paying 40/50 dollars a steak... I am looking for great food not good.
I wouldnt say don't eat here but If you do, be prepared to say "that was alright"
This was a solid, no fuss choice for a great date night. We celebrated our one year anniversary here and the menu offered variety, decent value, and was close to our hotel just off Michigan Ave. We had apps, 3 entrees, and dessert (primarily via the prix fix options) and non-alcoholic drinks and was just over $100 which was good for us. I'll be back!
The weather in Chicago was 70 degrees. When we arrived at the restaurant the front door was open. That should have been our first clue. The air conditioning was broken. We were seated as close to the open door as possible, however that meant we were also right by the kitchen with a half wall dividing us. So we heard everything that waiters and kitchen staff were saying. Some of it not good. Our waiter was very nice. The food was great. My daughter had surf and turf and I had macadamia nut encrusted Mahi Mahi. There was no discount for the lack of air conditioning
