Overall the experience was good. I dine here frequently and it’s usually outstanding. There were issues with the appetizer, the entree and the side dish. Most issues were rectified.
The food was fabulous! We enjoyed the rib eyes steaks, seasonal veggies, and both the red chili/white cheddar and regular mashed potatoes. We ate rather late so it was nice and quiet. It was a little chilly so we ate inside. Ambiance was nice and private. We have eaten out on the patio before and really enjoyed that also.
I would recommend, yes. The food was superb. We had a 7:30 dinner reservation on a weekday. The front of the house was full. For some weird reason, our party of two was seated in the very back of the house, at a booth that accommodated 4-6 people. There were one or two other tables of several diners near us, but mainly the tables were empty (we were near kitchen, restrooms. Well, it was fairly quiet. Just weird). Our server was excellent, very attentive. But we did wonder if he were a fairly new employee--no mistakes, NONE, but seemed a little nervous, tentative. Although our tab was (for us) fairly large ( special occasion) of course (as his employment obligates him to do) the server attempted to upsell us (we didn't order alcohol; he seemed disappointed us) before we ordered. We also did not order dessert (upsell attempt failed again). I hope he's considered a good employee, if tentative, and that the nervousness goes away. The food was great; we'd eat there again, but the table we were given, the remoteness near the restrooms and kitchen, very large booth, rather isolated server...a little weird.
I had been to this location about 5 years ago and was sad to see the decline. Cracked glassware, slow service and wrong order made for a disappointing dinner.
This was mine and my girlfriend’s first time dining at this establishment and thoroughly enjoyed everything about the evening. Our server (Lee) was excellent and provided us with great suggestions on the menu to which we tried each one.
I also became a member of the Landry’s Select club even though I don’t have a lot of the restaurants around me. I appreciate the points not expiring so I can accumulate them as I travel. This will not be our last time visiting and can wait until the next dining experience!!
Good food, great service. Would definitely go back.
We each ordered the Ultimate Mixed Grill. It was delicious and gave us a portion of stuffed shrimp, crab cake, salmon, shrimp, mashed potatoes, and fresh green beans. The non alcoholic drinks were also a pleasant change from soda or water, when you do not want alcohol. Our server was pleasant and helpful.
Tasty. Why do I have to add more? It was a cool, cloudy Sunday evening ...
Food was excellent and our server, Sarah, was just about perfect. The timing of drinks, appetizers, and entree were spot on. One of our best experiences in Chicago. We will be back.
Really lovely place - Marty was our server and she was really friendly and helpful. The food was exquisite. Would highly recommend the Alaskan crab and beef medallions.
Nice place, food is always consistent, more people eating outside rather than inside.
I booked a table for noon. The restaurant was mostly empty. Yet it took an hour to get our food. When I asked the waiter where our food was (after having to track him down because he was nowhere to be found), he just said “it’s not ready yet.” We were all on our lunch hour, so this was very inconvenient. No apology; no percentage off on bill. The food was so-so. I will never have lunch there again.
The service on Tuesday was definitely much better than my experience today (Thursday - August, 29th).
Our waiter was great! Wish i
Normally a huge fan of McC and S and my wife and I were looking forward to dinner. 20 minutes after arriving we still had no drinks and hadn’t ordered our meal. When our server finally arrived with a bottle of water (but without bread) we challenged her on this. It only took a second was her response. Service from there went further downhill. Seared Tuna had gristle throughout and was over- seared. Just bad bad bad. McC and S clearly have a serious franchise control problem.
I came with a group of friends for happy hour. We particulaly enjoyed the lobster bisque!
Overpriced. Dark noisy atmosphere. Food just ok. Service was great.
We had great service but the salmon wasn’t very good.
Food was delicious and we enjoyed great service. Lively conversations in the bar, but easy to hear in the dining room.
Matthew our waiter went over and beyond. Outstanding service, food was wonderful and can’t wait to return to Chicago and come back😊
So there was a shell in my Lobster Roll, which is a choking hazard. Sorry to say, but with the slow service and mediocre food, I will not be returning.
Food was just about average, the only good thing was the dessert - the twice baked apple tart with a walnut crust
Our food was delicious and our server really made the evening enjoyable. She was attentive and very humorous. She pegged us as fun people and made the evening more fun.
McCormick & Schmidt was subpar for an expensive restaurant in the loop. I waited 15 minutes for my drink because they were missing an ingredient. It was one of their specialty cocktails and it was early in the evening so no excuse for not having everything. We put in our appetizer order in while I was waiting for my drink. Nothing complicated - fried calamari. It took another 15 minutes to get the calamari. While we were waiting, we ordered our entrees. You guessed it, they brought the entrees about 3 minutes after we got the calamari. The food runner looked embarrassed and asked what we wanted to do. She didn’t offer any suggestions. I asked if they could keep it warm in the kitchen and she said no, but the plate is hot. Yikes. They left both entrees on the table while we rushed through the calamari (which was good). The entrees (salmon and seared tuna) were not up to the over $30 price tag for each. Not recommended.
This is the second time we have been here. The first was fabulous. This time wasn’t as good. Maybe had an off night.
Food was delicious. Service was incredibly slow.
I used to really enjoy the McCormick & Schmicks in the Gold Coast (until it closed). With my experience yesterday, 8/11/19, it was very cold indide, so we sat outside. The service was not as good as I'm used to experiencing. It was slow and the waiter forgot my salad. I would still return, since past experiences have been positive.
Awesome experience, food was Great, service was Great and in a Great location downtown Chicago
This location served us well. They have a good menu for kids.
My birthday dinner was awesome. It’s pretty noisy in the restaurant but our group is loud too.
We waited over half an hour to get our drinks and they did not come at the same time. We were celebrating a special event so we were not happy about that and the our food arrived shortly after so no time no enjoy cocktails before dinner. The steaks and salad were very good so helped to make up for delay in drinks. Server was not very apologetic and for got my salad.
The service was very slow. The drinks were watered down. This was not one of our better dining experiences at this location.
Wouldn’t change a thing every thing and every one was excellent!!!!
Our waiter must of been new as he had no idea what was going on. He definitely should of been being shadowed by a supervisor.
I feel like there should have been more wait staff on the patio when I had went. Our server Melissa was amazing and friendly and checked in as much as she could. Working in a restaurant I know how busy it gets and didn't care much when service took a little longer than normal. That girl is amazing for sure she had great conversation and was as attentive as one could be on a patio with a lot of guests. I loved her and would for sure come back.
The menu has items that the restaurant does not cook, so they bring you substitutions but don’t notify you in advance. The manager on duty has poor customer service skills and inadequately addresses the issue regarding the entree delivered vs. what was ordered. Food was slowly delivered from the kitchen, despite few patrons. My worst experience ever at a McCormick & Schmick’s. Waiter Darius was fantastic. Horrible experience that made me want to write their corporate offices.
The service from Max was good, despite it being so busy. However, I had to speak to 3 different hosts over 30 minutes to figure out how to get a seat outside. Each one told me something different. There was a lot of unnecessary standing around while my name was not on a list because two separate hosts did not tell me to speak to the outdoor host.
We had a birthday and the server never acknowledged it, yet there was a no charge for the birthday cake. Don’t understand why she offered us dessert and never brought the birthday girl hers. Very disappointing. Throughout the meal she was kind of distant. Food was amazing!
