McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Chicago (Wacker Dr.) Ratings and Reviews
Ordered the ahi tuna, which had an overwhelmingly unpleasant sesame flavor. Mashed potatoes were doused in horseradish sauce, rendering them inedible (and I like horseradish sauce). Bok choi was not very fresh. Bread was good -- that's the best thing I can say about my meal.
It was a crowded Christmas Evening in very cold weather. The place was full. Service was great. Food was superb. The staff worked very diligently to get folks seated according to the time of reservations. It could not have been much better. We had a wonderful time and a wonderful Christmas dinner.
We went for Christmas dinner and the only disappointment was the slow service. It took more than 10 minutes for the server to approach our table. We thought that due to the holiday they had staffing problems. Server was genuine but seemed extremely busy. Difficulty in getting a second round of drinks due to this. Food was delicious and worth the wait.
This was one of only a few restaurants open on Christmas and we are so glad we picked it. Service was great - food delicious and we never felt rushed. They are known for their seafood but we had steak and it was amazing! Highly recommend for all occasions!!! We might be making this our annual Christmas tradition - so long as they stay open! Thank you~
The food is low quality and the portions are tiny. We went for lunch as a group of 3 and ordered the lobster bisque, buttermilk fried shrimp, calamari, and ribeye. The lobster bisque had no lobster, the fried shrimp platter came with 6 miniature shrimp, the calamari was soggy, and the ribeye was overdone. Needless to say, we won’t be back.
We were there for Christmas eve dinner, and we pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was still vibrant at 8:45 p.m. and we were warmly welcomed. Luckily, we found a parking spot almost right in front, too, so I think it was our lucky night. Service was excellent, as was the food, although it could have been served at a hotter temperature. Missing was any sort of a little complimentary starter - a roll, or some bread - even though there were small plates that looked to be there for that purpose. Totally out of place, we thought, was the music which did not suit such a lovely restaurant with low lights and very nice decor. It was a mix of styles, though heavily weighted to rock/rap/vocals versus softer, romantic rock and/or instrumentals. Not conducive to a relaxing meal; heavy drinking maybe, but not a Christmas eve dinner!
This year we went here on Christmas Eve, we usually go on Christmas Day. Our waiter was spot on - not too pushy but helpful when needed. Food was prepared well and we enjoyed our meal. Maybe a tad too dark, hard to see what we were eating, however we still enjoyed our meal.
I had the crab stuffed shrimp which was omay but not very hot. My partner had the flounder. It was disappointing because it was very greasy and not very hot. The desserts were very good. Service was not horrible, but not great. I believe the server had too many tables to handle and thus could not be properly attentive to all patrons.
Overall, the food was very good but service was fair to good. We requested a booth. At first, we were told they didn't have any, even though we could clearly see that they did. Then we were offered a booth right by the host stand/front door. On a cold winter night - I don't think so. We were then taken to a table right next a couple with a fussy baby (in a restaurant that was half full at best). We asked about the open tables/booths along the wall, divided by curtains, and were finally seated there, but still by the fussy baby. At this point, we just wanted to eat. Shaved vegetable salad was outstanding, as was the soup. My friend had a shrimp dish, which was enjoyed, and the whitefish was excellent as well. Service was so-so. Note: recommend going for lunch instead of dinner - prices are much lower for the same dishes. How do I know this? The hostess gave one of us a dinner menu and the other a lunch menu!
I expected fine dining and received Black Angus quality food and 7-Eleven service.
Chicago has many excellent fine dining choices with great food and professional, qualified staff; Why waste your time and money on subpar food and staff?
- our party's Open Table 8pm reservation was ignored until 8:40 with no apology
- server did not appear until much later
- breadbaskets never made it to our table
- staff offered to transfer bar tab after our table finally became available, then idiot, functionally illiterate host guy insisted we pay before being seated (is there a manager running this place?)
- great location in downtown chicago
Awful! Will never go to another McCormick & Schmick’s ever again! From the raw burger my son (7 y/o) got to the then burnt burger when we got it back, to the lack luster menu, poor service, Luke warm lobster bisque, no bread....we won’t go back. I used to love M&S when they had a new menu every day....so disappointed.
