McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Chicago (Wacker Dr.) Ratings and Reviews
Awful! Will never go to another McCormick & Schmick’s ever again! From the raw burger my son (7 y/o) got to the then burnt burger when we got it back, to the lack luster menu, poor service, Luke warm lobster bisque, no bread....we won’t go back. I used to love M&S when they had a new menu every day....so disappointed.
I have gone to this location for their happy hours multiple times, but never for a business lunch. It was embarrassing how bad it was. First, there was no one at the front to greet us. We had a reservation and waited for about 4 minutes before anyone noticed us at the front, even as servers walked past us. The host had no sense of urgency when he saw us. Finally, we get seated and our server (tall, long hair in a pony tail) acted as though he's not super interested in serving us. My one colleague order a salad, the other colleague ordered some sort of tuna tower, and I ordered fish tacos. We each had soup as a starter. The soup was delicious; we all agreed. However, it is a good thing we ordered a starter because it took them 40-ish minutes to bring out our lunch entrees. At about 30 minutes in, I ask the waiter if our food was coming out. He gave a passive chuckle and says, "yes" with a shrug, again, no sense or urgency. He's almost seems annoyed that I asked. Let's be clear that there are maybe 5 tables seated in the entire restaurant. It was not crowded. At this point, I'm annoyed because we only had about an hour before our next meeting. When the food FINALLY comes out, it looks terrible. Well, the tuna tower looked fine, but the salad looks like something you'd make at home for lunch. My fish tacos were sloppily thrown on the plate and looked like an afterthought. Honestly, there are better restaurants in a similar price point. I will never, ever come here for a business lunch. I found it hard to believe that this place was so empty at 12:15 on a Monday. Now I know why. IT IS NOT GOOD. I'd recommend going elsewhere. Stick to the happy hours. We still left a 20% tip for our waiter, even though our overall service was absolute trash.
The lobster bisque was excellent, the oyster Rockefeller was cold and salty. Someone had put several pieces of that large rock salt in my oyster. The mule drink was outstanding. The calamari was not to my standards, either your calamari is great or it's bad there is not grey area in my book. Bread pudding would of been good if it was fresh, the bread seemed to be tuff and old.
One entree served lukewarm ; manager compd that dish
( that need not happen w good service/ coordinated kitchen)
Waiter was personable but service substandard
- soup cup and entree dish hadn’t been cleared when he showed up w the birthday treat!!
- we felt so very rushed, especially when the check was presented when we barely finished dessert
- waiter never asked if we’d like coffee or beverage w the dessert
- so many good seafood places in that area, we need never return
Service was very good atmosphere was good and we had an all-around good time. My one complaint is the amount of butter/oil used to cook the meal. I know it is easier to use too much butter but when you have a good steak or a good piece of fish the butter drowns out the taste.
Excellent meal and service! This restaurant will become one of our favorites. I ordered the Chef's choice Hawaiian mahi mahi, which was delicious, especially the wild mushroom risotto. My husband had "Jake's Famous" Bouillabaisse, which was also excellent. However, he had was 1 unopened clam out of 2 and 1 unopened muscle out of 5, which he relayed to the server and she immediately gave us a free dessert. We wanted to alert the chef and their suppliers. The dessert - upside down apple walnut pie with cinnamon ice cream was wonderful!
I really enjoyed my overall experience with McCormick and Schmick’s. I had a reservation for six people that grew into eight. Unfortunately it was a busy night and there weren’t able to accommodate the increase of my guest. Instead we were reseated in the chilly bar area in the front and sat on bar stools for dinner. After sitting for a hour we had to request bread and butter which I believe should have been available to us after we were seated. However, we did get our orders in and received them promptly after. The portion size for each meal was perfect and we all were very pleased. Thanks for saluting us Veterans with a nice fulfilling meal.
I called to advise i would be 10 minutes late and young lady was nice saying no problem. When i arrived it was the attitude not exacty him saying since i was late that he would have to sit others first before me since i was late. I would have accepted it better with a more pleasant attitude. Also, not sure since it was free veteran's day meals that but the food was luke warm. Now my wife loved the apple pie, their crust she says was delicious! For my first time being there and hearing so much about the restaurant...it was just ok.
The food was just okay. Waiter was just ok as well, took 15 minutes to come to the table and acknowledge us. Did not bring out bread right away, not worth the money for the dining experience. I have to agree with the other people reviews about the food, steak was ok, my wife loved the king crab legs, the calamari was delicious. I must say my overall experience with the restaurant was around where I would rate Chili’s but paid way to much for the food. I will not return and could use better seats and invest in a actual booth for customers who want a booth to dine in.
