McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Charlotte (Tryon Street) Ratings and Reviews
Having eaten at other locations of this chain and enjoying the experience, what a surprise we had. Maybe we should have heeded a virtually empty restaurant on a Friday evening. Service was average especially considering the place was empty. Food was average at best. My wife’s Mahi Mahi was tasteless and my scallops were somewhat chewy and not much taste. What really destroyed any hope for a nice dinner was the disco music blaring the whole evening. Not appropriate dinner music and certainly not conducive to conversation with friends. A whole forgettable experience and my last time eating at this chain.
Mixed review. Service was good. Our waitress was nice and attentive. Nice place except the bathroom was kind of old and outdated. Like a bathroom youd expect at a sports bar. Food was pretty good. Crab cake was excellent. Both me and my wife wife ordered shrimp and none of it was de-veined. Kind of dissapointing for an upper scale restaurant. Salmon was good as was the asparagus. Overall we enjoyed and would probably go back but would be choosey about what we ordered. Some things were really good, others just ok. For the price I think we expected a little more.
We did a working business lunch with a Client. We had a large group which is never a problem at McCormick and Schmick's Seafood.
Excellent food, great staff & service. This is a great, upscale restaurant in uptown Charlotte.
McCormick and Schmick's Seafood is always a hit with Clients and family.
I made an online reservation for my moms Birthday Celebration, which I wrote out letting the restaurant know the ocassion. When I called the restaurant to let them know we were running a few minutes late, I reminded them of my mom's birthday celebration and asked for a quiet table since my parents are very elderly. The hostess/reception did not acknowledge my mom nor the celebration.
The table was not bad, but having dined there often we know the booths in the back with the curtains would've been much more appropriate.
Service as a whole in Charlotte is pretty poor, but our server was well below charlottes' standard. In addition, we were consistently trying to be sold up. Manners were poor and overall service the same.
So my family and business has seen the last of McCormick and Shmicks.
everything started off awesome, the shrimp appetiser we had (wrapped in bacon) was amazing. I thought the salad was ok but not excellent.
I was a bit disappointed with the seafood trio. The shrimp was very small in size - for this place I would have preferred two instead of three shrimp but larger and not over cooked. Same with the stuffed shrimp, would have preferred one larger one cooked appropriately over two small shrimp. The salmon was dry as well. The spinach i asked for in lieu of mashed potatoes was sooooo salty, it needs to be toned down a bit. Because this was a business dinner with a client, I didn’t complain about my food.
Unfortunately our waiter was just not really attentive at all. Our water was never refilled, he was unsure of himself, and mixed up our after dinner drinks.
We ordered the chocolate bag for dessert after the waiter’s urging, and trust me this thing is huge. It is easily enough for four to nibble on, but awkward to eat as a group. Photo is below.
This experience wasn’t the greatest at the location. We have been to a another location before and the service and attention to us as guest and detail was absolutely amazing.
I decided to book a reservation online instead of over the phone. I figured it would be easier and I could have my request met. It was a special occasion for my wife’s birthday. I requested to have a little place card at the table with a note Happy Birthday on it. ( I have requested this before and it was done without a problem ) .
Second was our waitress. She was upbeat and informative. However she was more interested in talking to other servers in the back rather then making sure we had what we needed in a timely manner . We requested to have a virgin Strawberry Daiquiri, ( my wife’s favorite on her birthday) however they were unable to make it due to not having a blender working. So we decided to have a lemonade instead. ( it didn’t taste very good, and had no sugar along the outside )
Last was dessert, my wife ordered some chocolate cake I believe , or chocolate pie. When the waitress returned with it , I ask for a candle , and if it could be lit. The waitress wasn’t sure why I was asking for a candle, then she ask if it was a special occasion??
( the communication was not transferred to her) my wife felt embarrassed I had to ask for a candle as well as I. Once we were done eating, the check to about 10 min while the waitress was in the back. After I received my check I also noticed my points weren’t added on my bill. I didn’t want to wait any longer. Overall it wasn’t the greatest experience, and especially for a special occasion.
Food and drinks were delicious. Our only disappointment was that our server promised we wouldn’t be served the entrees too soon if we ordered at the same time as ordering our appetizers. Instead we were hardly halfway through the appetizers when the entrees all arrived. She told the manager, and he came and offered to make it up to us, such as warming up the appetizer for us. But there we were with food all over the table. We stopped eating the appetizer and started the entrees. We never got back to the appetizer. It would have been nice to have a leisurely cocktail and appetizer instead of being rushed. We wouldn’t have enjoyed the appetizer at that point, even if it had been reheated. The server was lovely, helpful and apologetic.
The experience left a lot to be desired. We were consistently given secondary explanation when we felt our server didn’t want to investigate an ask of our party. I have been to other McCormick restaurants and my asssumption, either this location lags behind as it relates to food and service or the was a problem during the late hour we stopped in. Either way, we will not be selecting this location again.
Food was good, but waiter kept hovering over our table and creating awkward situations during a business lunch. He would literally stand there and stare at us until we stopped our conversation when it was clear that he should have come back at another time. Very annoying. I usually have a better experience at M&S.
There was a woman who was consistly loud .One man complained as he walked out.The people behind us complained. This went on for our entire meal.TheManager finally came out 45 minutes later and she still was loud! The meal: my wife rdered a salad without blue cheese and got blu cheese.Thank the lord she wasn't allergic to it.I ordered a steak without the asparagus and got the asparagus.....So you tell me how the meal went! After a long business day just looking to wind down and enjoy a meal, this was our experience!
Great food, drinks and atmosphere. The staff was awesome and very attentive. My sister whom I brought out to celebrate her bday really enjoyed the restaraunt. They allowed us to bring in a cake and balloons for the celebration...ohhhhhh and I forgot to mention the great signature cocktails. My family, friends and I will certainly be visiting AGAIN
Disappointed with the experience given prior experience with the chain. Server was polite and friendly but seemed inexperienced. I had the filet and stuffed shrimp. The filet was cooked a perfect medium rare but there were three small shrimp with a small amount of crab stuffing. The shrimp were literally one small bite each. For the price it was unacceptable. The deserts were very good.
