McCormick & Schmick's Seafood - Charlotte (Tryon Street) Ratings and Reviews
I've been to McCormick & Schmick in several locations but this was a new beast. Several coworkers decided to get together for happy hour since it was Valentine's Day and we were all away from home. To our surprise they cancelled happy hour understandably for the holiday but we had called ahead to ask specifically about happy hour when making reservations. There were 7 of us originally but we added one additional person at the door. We saw the situation like this, three tables for 6 people or one big table or both. Anything outside of the 6 requires some finagling. But a 20 min wait in a restaurant that was yet to be crowded for a reservation that only added one person seemed to be an egregious sin to the host. The restaurant manager was called and the waiting ensued. When we made it to our table the drinks were slow most of the experience but again it was a holiday so no huge biggie. Just sucks to have a happy hour on Valentine with no drinks and a group of disgruntled employees. The waiter was attentive and the interaction was cordial so no complains to the rest of the staff or chain just an interesting experience to share.
I tend to seek out upscale steak or chop houses in my search of the quintessential great steak. McCormick & Schmick’s was a recommendation of a friend and the didn’t fail to met my ever evolving standards. The service staff did a great job with their effort to insure you have a pleasant experience. However, the ambient noise was a bit more than other restaurants of this type. Overall a pleasant establishment for fine dining.
Had a 6:30 Reservation for Andrea Bocelli concert.
Place was packed and we waited until 6:45 to get seated. Hostess stand personnel were as accommodating as they could be, given the crowd! But, our server knew we were pressed and Alyssa did all she could to speed things up without us feeling like we were wolfing down the meal! Except for a few loud guests who thought they were important than everyone else, the ambience was good!
Shrimp kisses app was nice way to start the dinner and you can see why they won best appetizer in Taste of Charlotte for past few years!
Valet parking kept our car until after the show which was a nice way to stay out of the fray of parking decks near Spectrum Center.
We arrived for our reservation a few minutes ahead of our 6:30 time. We had to wait 10 minutes for an open table. Our server didn't arrive for another 5 and I had to wait 30 minutes for a glass of wine. The appetizer arrived and was good, but our dinner still hadn't arrived by 7:40. We gave up.
Was a play in Charlotte night. Very crowded with very slow service. Food was very good with seared tuna and stuffed salmon. Hot and tasty. Energetic bar scene. Sanitation rating was 87. If we saw earlier would not have eaten here. Don't do anything less then 95.
We had tickets to the Andrea Bocelli performance at the Spectrum Center for Friday February 9. The show started at 8PM and we made our dinner reservations for 5:45PM (Plenty of time for a relaxed dinner and getting to the show on time. So we thought). We were called by McCormick and Schmick the day before to confirm our 5:45PM reservations. At that time we asked the representative if Valet Parking was available and she assured us that "Yes, that would be available for us". We pulled up to the McCormick and Schmick curb site at 5:43PM and noticed the lack of a Valet Parking attendant. One of us went in the restaurant to ask for help and we were told the the Valet Parking would not start until 6PM. We now had to drive around looking for parking. By the time we arrived back at the restaurant was close to 6PM. We were seated immediately. Our order for a bottle of wine was taken and the the waiting started. When our wine finally arrived (With apologies) we ordered our appetizers and the main course. (And waited). We flagged down the waiter and asked him for some bread and were told "The bread was in the oven". When the food finally arrived we must admit it confirmed our previous experience at McCormick and Schmick , it was delicious. Unfortunately we had to "rush" our planned "relaxing" dinner. We even did not have the time to eat desert (I think our favorite Bread Pudding was on the Menu). We left the restaurant for the Show (Approx 4 blocks from the restaurant) and made it just in time. The waiter was very friendly and kept apologizing. The customer's at the neighboring tables were also attending the Andrea Bocelli and had the same problem (One with a different waiter). It was our collective opinion that the restaurant was not prepared for the crowd that showed up for dinner before the Andrea Bocelli show. We wonder how the other uptown restaurants handled this influx/
This chain is usually consistently good—in fact, I’ve never had a bad meal there. However, on this occasion at this location our server, while friendly, was not attentive. The food was mediocre and the wait for our food was very long. The restaurant was not adequately prepared for the number of diners. Our tab for four people—one appetizer, four drinks, four entrees, one inexpensive bottle of wine ($30) and one dessert was in excess of $300 before tip and yet the meal was mediocre. The vodka tonic had no taste of vodka and was served without a lime slice. “Jumbo stuffed shrimp”were actually medium shrimp overly cooked. Really disappointing and way overpriced. You know it’s bad when your waiter apologizes unsolicited at the end of the meal.....
It was Charlotte Restaurant Week and the restaurant was understaffed so the service was delayed and rushed. Valet took a very long time to return car-an hour wait. During such a busy week I would expect adequate staffing due to volume of patrons. I will most likely not return and would not recommend due to service and food quality. Chef didn’t cook food like ordered but to long wait if returned to recook so I didn’t. Thank you!!
4 of us came here 2 were celebrating birthdays and it was Restaurant week. We had a reservation for 7:15 and got there a little early, was greeted and seated right away at a booth by the window. It was Saturday night and they were busy but our server was great we never waited more than a few minutes for anything. We all had different entrées but all were fantastic. We each 2 cheese cake and the Chocolate silk pie which were all to die for! They have an extensive wine list and cocktail menu. I can't wait to come here again.
ervice was horrible!!,,,we have never paid $150 plus tax and tip for such horrible service ,,,the only reason I am giving 2 stars is some of the food was fantastic,,,,the calmari was fantastic ,,,the lobster mashed potatoes were also as well and the crab dip appetizer was also amazing ,,,,the rest of the food : lobster tails were over cooked and not good,,,,had to return 3 oysters because they put a fourth of an oyster in a shell and said it was an oyster lol ,,,,my wife's stuffed salmon was horrible and cold ,,,,please keep in mind this is after we waited 20 minutes for wine and an hour and 20 minutes for the food ,,,,,the waitress never stopped back unless it was to bring food ,,,,never took plates from table,,, the manager or other servers had to ,,,never refilled water or wine one time,,,,it hurt to give the waitress $22 tip but that was 15% and I don't take everything out on the waitress's,,, Tillman would not be happy with the service we received and everyone around us received,,,not one manager came by to check on us either,,,I would recommend going to South Park location or going to Ruth Chris or Chimas instead,,,we won't be back :(
I was disappointed in the quality and taste of the food for the price. Also, the music was loud and did not match the ambiance of the lighting and the tables. Our waiter was kind, but was not as attentive given that our reservation was for 3pm and there were less than 10 tables being served.
The ambience was great but the food was absolutely awful. I had salmon stuffed with crab, mashed potatoes and vegetables. The potatoes were cold and not done. The salmon had absolutely no seasoning. It s very bland. I felt like I should have went somewhere else. I definitely do not recommend this place.
Took wife out for her birthday. It was close to the show we were attending as well. Everything was ok. There was nothing wrong, but nothing stood out either. Food was ok, service was good. It was more "bar-like" and had more of a casual feel to it than a nice restaurant.
The restaurant has good food and good ambiance for a date night with a great location downtown. However, as we were sat at our table, nobody served us for a good 10 minutes. We weren't even brought water at this point. Finally we had a server come to us but their were numerous waiters standing around just while we hadn't been served. The food was great and we had a good time overall.
I have eaten at your restaurant when its not restaurant week and I loved it. However during restaurant week, the portions I feel where ridiculous. The calamari was so skimpy and although the beef medallions were adequate the so called potato veg underneath was very disappointing almost invisible. Paying $35 dollars per plate times 3 is no little bill. I expected the same service when I'm there to pay regular price and unfortunately I did not receive that, it was very disappointing. However, our waiter Ryan was great.
