McCormick and Schmick's Harborside Ratings and Reviews
Getting there by transit was hard -- so much construction along Aurora, Dexter and Westlake meant a lot of walking. But the waiter was really great. It was relatively empty for lunch on a weekday, which meant it was quiet. The food was ok -- sandwich was good, fries were a little soggy. But the atmosphere, the view, and the super-friendly staff compensated.
We chose to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary at McCormick & Schmick's Harborside and it was a great choice. Mid week, personalized menu, attentive service, great wine, fabulous fresh oyster appetizer, lovely dinner, complimentary dessert -- they ensured a perfect evening for us. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for its beautiful harborside atmosphere.
Great service! We went on a quiet night, but it was perfect ambiance for a date night. We sat at the booths which are private and have a lovely view. We love this place, I always order the Chicken parmesan, which is amazing! We save room for the chocolate bag, it's a great dessert to share!
We never got our table. We arrived early, they were late. We went to the bar, got drinks and an appetizer....then ordered dinner. We finished 45 minutes after our appointment....but they never came to move us. Ruined our Valentine's Day. Very disappointed. Used to go all the time, won't be back.
Food was good! Service was unfortunately terrible. Waiter was slow, at one point we had to go find help as we didn't receive plates or drinks. We were told the waiter was on a smoke break. We were there for a birthday, nice touch that menus even said happy birthday. But waiter forgot and we had to ask about a desert for my daughter's special day. Would have had a few drinks, but couldn't get service so I guess saved some $ on that. Only a couple of tables in play and lots of employees (many hanging out socializing) while we waited and waited for basic things.
Food was good and original (horseradish crusted steelhead!), oysters fresh, nice views. Oddly on Saturday night the place was mostly empty which may explain why it was pleasantly quiet. It's expensive, but what isn't? I'm guessing that because this is a chain Seattle folk don't go but they should.
Nice seafood options and a fun place to go if you want to splurge, but also possible to walk out with a basic meal without spending too terribly much. The chocolate silk pie was not as fluffy as I expected it to be from the description, less of a mousse consistency and more similar to a cheesecake, but everything we had tasted very nice.
Oversalted Food ruined a Good Meal
Had to send back potatoes that were salty, if I were a slug, I would be shriveled up and dead. Replacement potatoes not much better. Friend asked for roasted vegetables instead of mashed potatoes. Got roasted potatoes. By the time that order was corrected, like mine, our meal was almost finished. Waiter/busser never came back to fill water glasses. Coffee was tepid and not refilled. Waiter did come and check on "how food was" but turned and around and left before we could even comment. Will not go back.
It was NYE so we expected the service to not be the best. Our reservation ran about 40 mins over (thankfully we gave ourselves plenty of time til our plans after) after being seated we probably didn't see our server for almost 20 mins. Randomly a complimentary plate of calamari was dropped to our table as an apology for the service, so that was nice. The food was very underwhelming which was kind of a bummer. But you can't go wrong with that scenery and view of our beautiful city!!
Oh, such a love/hate relationship!! I keep getting pulled back to this restaurant by the amazing location, but alas, I am disappointed more often than pleased. Positives first, our waitperson was very good. I wish I had asked her name, but she can attentive and friendly. The restaurant on this Thursday night was almost empty, so we had a wonderful table and almost no noise. Now for the negative. My food was disappointing. I ordered the medallion and lobster. The medallions had been ordered rare, but the outside was almost black and the meat was very very dry. Significantly overcooked. The majority of the potatoes with this dish were significantly overcooked. My partner ordered the Cod and she asked what the vegetable was with her dish was and was told it was pole beans. When the dish came, it had artichokes, and not very many. The waitstaff should know what comes with each dish each night. Her fish was dry and tough. I could possibly understand our meal to be like this if the restaurant was very busy, but it wasn't. This is my third review of this restaurant and so far, two have been overall negative. I wonder if the management actually eats the food that comes out of the kitchen. Maybe they should randomly order the dishes without the kitchen staff know it is for them. They might have a better sampling of the food being delivered to the customers. Oh, such a wonderful view......
Our second visit. Broad menu, so everyone could find something they like. Not too loud, which was great. Cozy seating and great view. Service was great, although they were out of wine we wanted and we didn't like the wine the waiter suggested as replacement, so we tasted another one, and by time it got ordered and uncorked, more than half of us were done with dinner. That was the only flaw. Some discount for that timing issue would have been nice.
Two of our 3 meals were a real disappointment, a rib eye steak that was not tender or flavorful?? and a shrimp "scampi"? which was overcooked with enough pasta to feed the table. The Shrimp were overdone and without the delicate handling of a real scampi preparation. A side dish of potatoes and brussel sprouts was steam table limp and greasy. The remaining meal, a generous piece of somewhat overdone steelhead, was ok, but the accompaniment of kale ( tough) and tomatoes and broth (exceptionally salty), made it, overall, not a satisfying meal. The service was responsive when present, but decidedly unwelcoming (holiday stress?) for a Christmas meal. Our waiter never smiled or greeted us, was business like in carrying out our requests, which we were grateful for, but it was a cold experience. The view is always a pleasure but cannot outweigh a truly mediocre meal at the expensive end (we got a voucher for parking but needed to pay an additional amount to cover the 1.5 hours it took to be seated and served our meal (we arrived on time, and did not have dessert or coffee.) I don't think we will be returning to this restaurant again. Wish we could provide a more positive assessment but, ... we all left disappointed in the meal.
Went for Christmas Dinner, we had reservations and seating was a snap. Our waitress was very attentive, but the food took a long time to arrive. We ordered a crab dip appetizer and we must have waited 20 minutes even though it was early in the afternoon and the restaurant wasn't full. The ribeye steak with a side of brusselsprouts was divine. Perfectly cooked (med-rare) with just the right amount of seasoning. The prime rib unfortunately was more medium than med-rare, but still very flavorful. The only really disappointing thing was the crab legs. We ordered 2 crab legs to go with the prime rib, and they were dry, dry, dry, they weren't on the menu so we got them special, which cost us 20.00.
Very disappointed in the entire experience. We had Christmas reservations and it was not very busy. Unfreindly host who basically asked us to wait in the hallway by the elevators. Our waiter had with zero personality. He did not explan that the others were getting potatoes with their meal that I might wish to order a side of something. He did not bring the soup for one person, when it was requested again after main course was done, he never appologized for forgettig about it. It was just rude. I was served a piece of dry/over cooked rib eye steak with nothing but a couple pieces of greens for a huge price. I love rib eye and this was the worst ever! Absolutely disappointing from the begining to the end. No one at our table felt the food was worth the price. We will not be returning or recommending them.
Went for Christmas Eve and walked into a Christmas disaster. We were seated for almost a 1/2 hour before even getting water. Then our frantic server, on the verge of tears rushed bread over didn't take even a drink order and left.
We finally were able to place drink orders 45 minutes into the ordeal. Table bussers kept dropping and breaking dishes, and the place was VERY LOUD.
When the food arrived WELL INTO 1.5 hours after being there my crab was still FROZEN in the middle instead of steamed. Send it back and it came out mushy and bland. The cod fish others ordered were good, but the bay shrimp onto were not fresh and REAKED of spoiled fish.
Went for a simple holiday dinner, left feeling part of a holiday disaster. Won't visit again for any occasion.
We chose McCormick's Haborside for our Christmas Eve celebration, sadly it was ruined. This restaurant put greed over service & quality. We were seated in one of at least 2 banquet rooms, where they had set up no less than 9 tables of 6 or more parties. It appeared McCormicks, made the decision to seat reservations with children all in these rooms; "saving" the main dining room adults only as there were no children there. After sitting with our menus in front of us for over 15 minutes, my husband went out to the main restaurant in an attempt to locate an employee...any employee! A totally frazzled server arrives, rattles off something like "this is our menu, take a look & we'll be with you shortly", then disappears so quickly we couldn't stop him...and he wasn't even our server! Drinks & appetizers were ordered, and apps arrives BEFORE the drinks which literally take 30 minutes to arrive, and were delivered by the a hostess. Other tables in the room also experienced the same level of service & are upset as well. Food & wine order finally take almost an hour after arrival. Fifteen minutes later A GLASS of wine appeared at the table...we ordered a BOTTLE! 90 minutes later the food arriveed; beef medallions returned to kitchen TWICE-under cooked. Parmesan chicken linguine appears slightly over cooked UNTIL turned over-CHARRED! Both meals were eventually comped, and desserts were as well, but we would rather have had an enjoyable, well ordered, well prepared, well served meal. Based on what we witnessed, it was a costly night for this restaurant as many meals, drinks and desserts were comped. As Seattle residents, we will not return, nor will we recommend any McCormick's to our out of town guests. There are just too many other incredible restaurants in Seattle to suffer at this one!
The food was outstanding! Kudos to the chef for our excellent appetizer (coconut prawns, calamari, truffle fries) and entrees (Trio of Scampi, Salmon and grilled prawns and Prime Rib - perfectly prepared and Bourbon glazed Salmon) all PERFECTLY prepared excellent flavors!
Only issues - inexperienced wait staff - caulking it up to new. Timing off delivery of appetizers, drinks, bread. When poring water - pour from side and never pick up customers glass if you can. Never reach in front of customers when placing new silverware down and knives are placed on right side of plate and forks on the left. When you make a mistake - just apologize. If you mess up the bill please correct and definitely bring the receipts to prove you've corrected the issues.
Manager on staff that evening was professional and wonderful.
We will return for the outstanding food and I have faith the serving staff will have more experience under their belts.
Terrible experience. We were there for Christmas Eve dinner with 6 adults and 2 toddlers. Our server was very slow, we didn't get out food until nearly 2 hours after we were seated (no easy feat for a toddler!). Once our food arrived most of it was inedible - probably kept warm under a heat lamp for too long: Dry, luke warm, little flavor. The silver is lining is that they knew our experience was so inexcusable that they comp'd our entire meal. However. I won't be going back again.
