McCormick and Schmick's Harborside Ratings and Reviews
Our family party of 3 very much enjoyed our view table and pleasant staff for our Christmas Eve dinner, our present to ourselves. Although there was not a "Christmas" entree for Christmas Eve, our selections of the bourbon-glazed salmon, the rockfish, and the small filet mignon were very well prepared and presented. We felt graciously attended by Sequoyah and the other circulating waitstaff who made sure we had whatever we wanted. We have always been pleased with every aspect of M&S Harborside whenever we come here and will continue to in the future.
I need to add: I often wonder at reviews posted by diners who likely were in the restaurant at or near the same time as we were and how dreadful or otherwise unsatisfactory their experiences were. Why some of us are so well treated and pleased by our selections when others are not is a puzzle. I find it hard to believe that there is such a range of experiences during the same time frame. But, apparently, such is life.
My family and I have made it a Christmas tradition for 17 yrs . I was impressed with the new decor and the service was above and beyond. The stergion was beyond good. Hats off to the chef. The experience at your restaurant was the highlight of our Christmas. Thank you!!
View is tremendous and the seating allows for good conversation. Liked the booths facing the water. Service was a little on the slow side. Menu selection is smaller than it used to be. I was surprised that they serve Atlantic salmon as their standard, rather than wild. King salmon available though. Presentation was lovely. Actual quality of food was good, but not great. My salad was a bit soggy and the chicken was dry.
Ambience is great, quiet enough to hold conversations and maintain privacy.
I've also been to functions in their private dining room and in their bar, where quality of food has actually been a little better.
Although this review is rather mediocre, still believe this is good place for business lunches. Prices are fair.
I location/view was awesome - not real happy with the service, my boyfriend ordered salmon and received a steak instead - since he doesn't eat meat, he only ate the vegetables that came with the meal.
My friend never received a refill of his ice tea and at the end of the meal the waiter tried to get us to get a membership to some club.
And when checking in at the front counter the hostess couldn't find our reservation, but seated us and kept asking what my name was and could not get it right.
For the price we would not return. Our bill was $157, that was with bringing our own wine and not ordering dessert. Now don't get me wrong, I am happy to spend $200+ on a meal, as long as I am not getting a Red Robin experience for a fine dining price. The food was just okay, my husband ordered the NY strip and it was unevenly cooked, and tasted strongly or chat. I ordered the daily special, and the salmon was way over cooked, it was dry and chewy. The resturant was so loud we could only hear the people at the next tables, again, in line with Red Robin or another family dining expeteience. At the next table a child had an iPad and it was so bright that it glares in our faces the entire time. Over all, we would not go back.
To start, the waiter forgot to put in the appetizer order, and it never came so we had to cancel that. The restaurant was not busy at all, yet it still took over 45 min to receive our food. My wife ordered the Parmesan Crusted Chicken, and it was not seasoned or flavorful at all. For a plate that is over $25, I expected more. We were also seated next to a group of "regulars" who were very loud, drunk, and obnoxious. Terrible experience.
My wife and I had a 7:45PM reservation for Thanksgiving dinner here. The food was good and the service was great, however, they did have an issue with the number of guests they booked. As such we were asked if we could sit in the bar below the restaurant, informing us they had 2 reservations ahead of us that needed to be seated first and it would be "awhile" before we could be seated. Seeing as it was after 8PM and my wife had to work the next morning we capitulated.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate their flexibility in opening up the bar below in order to serve us, but as you can imagine it was a little bit of a disappointment from the "nice evening out" I originally promised and thought I reserved. And while the food was good, the menu's prices reflect much more than the actual meal - like the service, atmosphere, and ambiance.
I'd recommend this place if your looking for a nice place to have dinner but not likely for a special occasion/event/holiday unfortunately.
Coming to a busy place on a holiday was not my choice.
While we have been there before, I found the noise level to be very disturbing.
I felt that the costs for drinks was not in keeping with a family event.
You do not need to have the bar focused on sports TV unless you have a room full of heavy drinkers.
If I wanted a bottle of wine for dinner, your prices were beyond reasonable.
The service level was very good. I would suggest you find a way to provide quite dinning areas.
The waiter was helpful and made the effort to please us. The only problem arose when the bill came and I found extra charges for something that was included in the dinner.
As for the meal, the gravy and turkey suffered from extreme salt . I had really hoped the main course would not taste like a warmed up plate.
The noise level can only be described as something I would expect in a Red Robin, not a respectable restaurant. No holiday music, just a throbbing annoying base beat as if my neighbors' kid was playing his radio.
To really enjoy a meal and have a waterfront view, the whole experience needs to blend. I did not find that to be true on Thanksgiving.
This is the 3rd year that our family of 4 has had Thanksgiving dinner here. It's a busy, vibrant place during the holidays. Lovely views. Good service. Nice selection if some of your group prefers something other than the standard turkey dinner. As much as I love cooking, it's a pleasure to have someone else take care of it once in awhile.
Service was terrible, once order was taken it took well over 45 minutes to serve and then food was cold and the special Thanksgiving meal so salty it was inedible. We were charged $4.75 for each of our two children's apple juices even though it was advertised as "free" with their children's dinners. The waitress only checked back once and left empty water glasses and dirty dishes sitting in front of us. She was timely to ask about paying the bill however! She gave us a parking validation card that didn't work so the three of us each had to pay $14 for parking when we thought $4 was a bit of a stretch! The lack of service and horrible disco drum beating loop of "music" made it impossible to talk and have a nice holiday meal together as a family! So very disappointed and my 87 year old mother doesn't come out much so really felt bad for her!
Thanksgiving dinner: it was just okay but it was only $28 so who's complaining. The oysters on the half-shell were wonderful. The salad had way too much vinegar and burned my mouth. The mashed potatoes were pretty good, as was the cucumber mint limeade. There was about 2 Tbsp cranberry sauce so I had to ration it carefully. The service was fair but not outstanding.
We had a great dinner. Never been to one of these before. Just arrived in Seattle for the Thanksgiving holiday and wanted a special quiet evening before the bustle of the holiday. We were there at 5 pm. The service was great as was the dinner and the dessert. Nice to find a restaurant which is good at all aspects of the meal. Thank you for a great evening.
Our experience was very good overall. Some hiccups we didn't expect for the $$$ versus $$: overall decor and view was excellent but some decor elements, e.g., light fixtures, were corporate and not elevated as well as they could have been; chowder was versus *; coconut shrimp were excellent; raw oysters sub-par compared to @Blueacre and smaller chef-owned restaurants; restaurant was half-full but service was good but not outstanding; server was more enthusiastic than dignified; dessert was excellent.
I'm a veteran and from the time we arrived to the time we departed, all of the staff, including the General Manager, were courteous and very pleasant. Everyone seemed attentive during our
visit. The ambience was just right! The food was delicious. Oh, and the music was so appropriate for the setting!!! And did I mention that everyone was very nice? The General Manager is to be commended for way his staff conducted themselves. I found the décor to be
very pleasing and comfortable. Oh, and did I mentioned how nice the staff was??? I guess one could surmise that the evening was quite enjoyable. I can't wait to go back again.
We had reservations and were seated at our reservation time. The wait staff was wonderful, water glasses were refilled quickly. We were given our menus and given sufficient time to make decision, they came back and asked if we had questions, asked if we wanted something to drink besides water, took that order and went away. He came back with our drinks, asked if we had any questions and then took or orders. They came back several times to check on us and the management came by to check also. Finished plates were cleared quickly. We were offered dessert menus and ordered dinner. McCormick & Schmicks Harborside has a great view so we really enjoyed the atmosphere and view. We really enjoyed our meal.
I'd like to start with thanking M&S for honoring veterans. My wife and I enjoyed their special (early) Veteran's Day entrees for lunch today, and we were grateful for their generosity and appreciation of my service.
Start at the beginning. Their online reservation system was easy to use and even updated my google calendar. Nice.
The host selected a window side table for us. Thank you! We were fortunate to have a clear, sunny day in November, and the view was spectacular. I started with a ($3!) Bloody Mary. The mix of tomato juice, Tabasco and Worcestershire were exactly to my taste. Flavorful and tangy with out being too hot.
Our server Chad was skilled and attentive. I ordered the buttermilk fried shrimp with fries and slaw. My wife had the grilled salmon with long beans and roasted potatoes. My shrimp were very nicely done. Crispy breading, well seasoned, and cooked so they had a nice pop when you bit in to them. The fries were tasty with some sort of seasoning combination including a dusting of shredded cheese. The slaw was just OK. A little under dressed for me.
My wife loved her grilled salmon. It had nice dark grill marks but was still moist and tender. The long beans were perfectly done, and she liked the potatoes.
Regrettably, we didn't have time for dessert. I am a wedding officiant and had a ceremony coming up, but what we saw on the menu and at other tables looked scrumptious. Maybe next time, and there will be a next time.
Note for other vets. We tipped Chad, who gave excellent service, at 20% of what would have been the normal charge for the meal. M&S may have been giving vets a great deal today, but we can't expect the servers to work for less. We shouldn't make that choice for them.
All in all a great experience. Even if they do cut their little sourdough loaves VERY oddly. You'll just have to see for yourself.
Veterans' recognition promotion is a very nice gesture and makes dining here on Veteran's Day or Memorial Day Sunday a great value. However, being seated in a newly opened back room instead of the Lake Union view main dining room detracted much from the experience.
My wife and I have dined at Harborside before and enjoyed the experience. This time we found the kitchen to be lacking. My bouillabaisse arrived lukewarm. My wife's crab legs lacked a garlicy flavor in the sauce. The good chef must not have been on duty that night.
We don't get the opportunity to go out to fancy dinners often, so thank you for making the experience very special!!
Our server was great.
Our food was amazing.
Huge wine list, plenty of craft cocktails and beers.
Was very impressed!
Final bill for two was $120 after tax plus $30 tip.
Appetizer, two entrees, and two drinks.
Our server Michael really made the evening memorable, the food was great, but Michael really completed the evening. We eat out very often at all kinds of places, I travel for work and I am in restaurants all over the country. I've been in the customer service industry over 25 years and have high expectations. Michael is exceeded by only one server, in our opinion, in the area, and that is James at Tulio (5th and Spring) in downtown Seattle. This says a lot especially considering Michaels young age.
Seattle restaurant week special. Manila clams full of sand. Very bad. Requested Beef tenderloin Med Rare. Show up more as Medium. On the chewy side. Taste decent. Coffee just warm. Can tell not fresh at all. Service very good. Very attentive. Nice water front view even on a rainy day !
Waitress was AWESOME, until the hostess brought us the bill. Gone for Restaurant week; however I was incorrectly charged. When I told the hostess, she didn't even look at the bill and dismissed that I was overcharged. She said, "I showed her how to do it and so it's correct." Wrong. Even with simple math I can tell it was wrong. No eye contact, took it away, brought it back and then left. That hostess left a distaste for experience. Again, the waitress was awesome, friendly, and attentive. The hostess, no so much.
