McCormick & Schmick's Harborside - Portland

I had just received some absolutely incredible news and it was time to celebrate. I didn't have anyone to go with but I am not put off about eating alone. So I got dressed to the nines after setting up my reservation. Thankfully it was a Thursday night and it was very easy to get a table. I arrived early and was quickly seated at the 2nd tier level to enjoy the view and people watch. This was my first experience with Portland's fine dining and it will most certainly not be my last.
I started off with a nice glass of champagne and some seared ahi tuna. Clean flavorful and just right.
Fresh bread came to the table a few minutes later. Being an amateur chef and baker, I could tell that this was a well made bread. It so fresh it was a bit to hot to dig into right away and had to sit for a few moments to cool.
2nd course was some oysters. And a 2nd glass of champagne.
They had run out of several choices of fresh fish for the main course, but the Cobia was perfect over the risotto.
My servers were exceptionally personable, professional and knowledgeable. I shared with my main server why I was there that night and they comped me my desert. That made my evening.
Normally when I eat alone I am usually in and out within an hour. I spent over two hours at McCormick and Shmick's and was there past closing enjoying every moment. The entire evening was an experience I will never forget.
Now I used to work in hospitality (hotel side) in high end resorts in the Napa Valley and I am no stranger to service and quality. McCormick and Schmick's meets all of the standards and ticks off all of the boxes in comparison (and even exceeds some of them) in comparison to places like Auberge and Meadowood where I used to work. If you know those names you know what I am speaking of.
Thank you everyone for a wonderful evening.
We were sat promptly. Service was impeccable. Clam shower was a little salty but tasty. Bread seemed too dense for my liking, but good dipped in the soup. Fish tacos were delicious!
We believe it depends on what you order for food. We ordered the steelhead and king crab legs. The salmon was done perfect and had great sides and a great berry glaze on the side. The king crab legs though were old, smelled fishy and had the meat inside had shrunk with age. The service was excellent and the restaurant view was beautiful. Be aware, that they no longer validate parking.
We had 6 people in the party. I ordered Grilled King Salmon from the menu. 10 minutes later waiter told me that that they do not have this item and immediately pointed to more expensive item.
Harborside has been a most favorite of ours for years and still IS! We were in the bar area for Happy Hour. Food was excellent and the wine as well! Our waitress, Dawn, was top notch—so friendly with super personality. We used my Landry s birthday $25. and she included a yummy dessert. Will surely return soon. Thank you!
Just wonderful everything. I’m highly discerning when it comes to food. I ordered the tenderloin; Med rare. It was cooked perfectly. Paired it with a Château Ste. Michel- Indian Wells, Merlot. Wine was well balanced and paired nicely with Steak and truffles mashed and sautéed mushrooms. Great place for special occasions.
Food arrived cold and the waitress , who was training, wasn’t good. Took too long to deliver the food, and couldn’t get us a drink from
Happy hr. Too
Many can’t do, no effort to get to a customer focused solution.
Out of 4 plates
And the food
Our service was top notch! The food was equally top notch. Our server did a great job of making sure we had everything we needed and the rest of the staff made sure our food was delivered and presented well. The staff also made sure our used plates and other service items were promptly removed from the table. Desserts were excellent! Crème brûlée was well prepared and the upside down apple pie was delicious!
Great place to eat!
Food was overpriced for the quality. Service was slow and terrible. Would never go back there.
I was disappointed that my Andouille mashed potatoes contained both green and red peppers which were not indicated on the menu. I need to avoid both due to a sensitivity and would not have orders the entree had they been listed. Similarly the sautéed spinach included onions, also not listed. I picked most of the peppers and onions out but the taste of the oils lingered and took much enjoyment away from my meal. I guess I’ll have ask next time.
McCormick & Schmick's Harborside always has food prepared to the best best example of fine eating. The Staff and their service are always attentive and professional. I will recommend M&C to anyone looking for fine eating in an upscale atmosphere.
We sat outside on the patio for Mother's Day lunch and it was just lovely.
Very disappointed, we were seated in the upstairs banquet room when there was plenty of available seating in the main dining room. Service was poor and staff treated us like we were a bother. I’ve been going here for many years for special occasions and I won’t be going back. A $200 meal should come with common courtesies.
We had a wonderful meal for our anniversary. The service was great and no matter where you sit you have a wonderful view of the river.
All dishes, including ahi tuna, rock fish, scallops, salmon and chicken, well well prepared and presented. The service was excellent and accommodating. The window table was especially pleasant.
Very weak "Brunch" menu. Maybe 6 choices, nothing like bacon and eggs or waffles or pancakes. Service was indifferent.
The food was good, but the coffee was terrible. There are a lot of good coffee outings in Portland, and it would be nice to have a coffee that better matches the food
Been here several times. Food & atmosphere always good. Nice view of Willamette River.
It was a perfect meal and perfect evening. Bonus sunny day in a May!
Loved the restaurant! The gluten free menu was a plus. Excellent steaks!!
Overall experience was good . Drinks were fantastic .
The food was very good, perfectly prepared and presented. My low rating is mostly due to our overall experience with the length of time we waited. While our server was very personable and kind, the she was not too attentive and the lunch that we expected to take 1.5 hours or so was 3 hours. Water glasses did not get refilled, very long waits between ordering and main course, then again a very long wait to order dessert and finally getting it. She did not offer coffee or tea with dessert. And it's not as though our table was hidden in the beautiful restaurant, we were right next to the front entrance. While our birthday guest totally enjoyed herself, I was disappointed.
Pricey and not the largest portion sizes, but very good food
Expensive prices for portion size. Fish was undercooked. "Roasted vegetables, 1 brussle sprout, 3 mini carrots, were so overcooked that they were unchewable. Wiatress was a little too sooty and too attentive, not allowing us to peruse the menu(s) to make choices. Berry pie for dessert was the highlight of dinner. Good people watching spot and nice river view.
Chowder was great. Parmesan crusted Sole was very disappointing - tasteless. Great interior and view of the river.
Food, service and atmosphere were outstanding and the views of the harbor were incredible. We will definitely be returning soon. Our server, Lori, was fantastic and the complimentary dessert in celebration of our wedding anniversary was truly the icing on the cake!
Immediately gives the impression of an over-priced seafood place. McCormicks used to be great. They appear to have lost much of their commitment to sourcing locally, or at least their transparency around it. Restaurant was noisy, service was slow. Didn’t get second drinks until after we were done with meal. Good food, just hard to get past the poor service and noise
The restaurant carpet and chairs could have an upgrade or least cleaned.
The place is very nice with outstanding staff. The was fabulous with terrific choices. We would and will go again.
Took my wife for her birthday. All the food was fantastic service was good. it seemed like our waitress had to many tables at the same time but we weren’t in a hurry so it all worked out.
The staff is very nice, but for an Easter Brunch and the price paid, the quality of the food and its presentation was disappointing. The eggs in my Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked, but the food was barely warm, the potatoes looked dried out, two geriatric looking silver bowls for ketchup and diced fruit. The fruit was not sweet. The server kindly offered to get me a warmer meal, which I declined because of the perfect eggs, and a complimentary brulee.
My husband enjoyed his salmon and said the temperature was very warm.
The view is great so we might return for Happy Hour instead of a $70 meal.
The seating is tiered, to offer views of the Willamette River. Very good seafood restaurant. Easy walking distance from hotels in the SW portion of downtown Portland. Also consider dining at Jake’s Famous Crawfish, a Portland institution for 125 years.
Our server was awesome - food was good and great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to friends in Portland
Steak was over cooked and appetizer had to be reminded twice.
Love this place
Mixed review on the food. My Ribeye steak was very tough! Which is hard to do to a Ribeye! but my son's New York steak was good and the chopped salad and Oyster appetizers were great. We were vacationing in Portland and were used to a different McCormick & Schmick's steak experience.
Went at about 4:30 on a Sunday and not crowded at all. We had high expectations and were not disappointed in the least! Excellent service, great food and wonderful view of the water ! It did start filling up as we were leaving but staffing seemed in place to handle a crowd. Will go here again next time we are in Portland.
The food was wonderful. It was a great dinner out with the family.
Amazing service! Our servers and chefs were able to accommodate our every request, and made us feel very special on prom night. The food was delicious. Special shoutout to our waiter Cole, who was beyond kind to every one of us and answered all of our questions with patience. Wonderful experience!
The meal and the server were great. We had so much fun.
Will come again
