McCormick & Schmick's Grill - Tigard Ratings and Reviews
I have eaten at McCormicks for many years. Before it was Landrys, it was good enough. Since Landry’s took over, very hit and miss. We go to this restaurant because it is comfortable, easy to have conversation and usually the food is edible. This visit the service was mediocre. It took forever to get our food. The waitress seemed over whelmed since she rarely checked back. We had to ask for things she should have been offering, like a basket of warm bread for example. There was no one refilling water or when we had coffee at the end, no refills and took forever to get our bill.
The food was underwhelming to say the least. I was disappointed because in the last year or so, it had improved a lot. But this night it was pretty bad and the overall experience disappointing. My salad was dismal and looking at my friend’s plates, their food didn’t look good. This was a gathering of friends who had not seen each other for years, so the food was not the important part. I really like the atmosphere and when this restaurant is “on”, the food is pretty good for a huge chain and service the same. I won’t be going back unless someone wants to have a meeting or event there.
It was our 40th wedding anniversary and we were celebrating with 2 other life long couples. I mentioned it was our anniversary in my reservation and not that we were expecting anything other than an acknowledgement but it would have been nice. The service was very poor. We couldn't even get our water glasses filled. My husband got up and grabbed a pitcher. My friend asked for extra dressing and never received it. We were asked if we would like steak knives and we said yes, never received them. On top of that we were there nearly 3 hours and it simply took forever to get anything and we had to initiate getting our dessert. The only saving grace was that we were there with great friends and the food was good, not all as hot as it should have been but good.
Made reservations on a Tuesday for Wednesday early evening. We were seated immediately and our server was prompt and very helpful. Our meals were as he described and very tasty. Water & coffee were filled promply and our check came in a timely manner. We will definitely be back.
Had a reservation for weeks before a Christmas dinner. Arrived and waited for 15 minutes just to get sat at the edge in the bar area in uncomfortable chairs with spotty service. Server was doing his best, but was clearly overburdened. Disappointing after three years of making this our Christmas dinner tradition.
Christmas Day reservation. I would not recommend for such a busy holiday as the
Service was very slow , the employees were not friendly- seemed overwhelmed, and we waited a long time for our food and some requests ( for more bread and water) were not responded too. We also requested a drink from the bar - it came back wrong and our waitress said they didn’t have what we requested — yet at the bar they in fact did have it. Food was good and restaurant was decorated very pretty for holiday.
I am tired of getting seated almost by the bar and fire exit because, I have a cane. I can maneuver stairs at home why not in public. We were charged dining room prices but, bar seating. My husbands prime rib was ordered med. rare but, was served med-well. Have alternate veggies for squash & asparagus allergies. My salmon was perfect.
Christmas Eve dinner was very disappointing. Showed up on-time for our 7:30pm reservation and were told the reservation was at 7:45pm. I had a confirmation email on my phone showing 7:30pm from Open Table. We waited 15 minutes to be seated. We were greeted after 5 minutes at the table by the server who said "Good Evening", that's it, and walked away and didn't return for 10 more minutes.
When the waitress finally returned, we ordered appetizers and drinks at that time. The appetizers showed up 10 minutes later w/out the drinks. The drinks arrived after we finished our appetizer.
Then the waitress, about 8:25pm, finally took our diner order.
Then all hell broke out, the fire alarm and accompanying strobe light went off just as they survived us our salad. The place filled with smoke from the kitchen, the hood in the kitchen was malfunctioning we were told. We were also told they fixed it.
Moments later, our main course arrived and the alarm went off again. This time they propped open the front door on a 30 degree evening and let the cold air in and it found its way to our table which as in direct line up with the front door.
They finally turned the alarm off but it went off again, for the third time, before we finished.
Only one apology when the alarm first went off and apology or acknowledgement of the situation afterward by the waitress or manager. And of course, no offer to pay for our drinks or dessert, nothing as some sort of compensation. Finally, after my wife got up and complained about the lack of service, the smoke, the fire alarm they did comp our meal but then charged us for our one dessert??
I cannot think of how much better off they would have been by comp'ing everyone's drinks or dessert as a good will gesture rather than waiting for a customers to complain before doing anything about it.
We decided to go out for a family Christmas Eve dinner. We chose McCormicks expecting a high end experience. We were very disappointed. To accommodate as many people as possible we were seated outside the main seating area in an auxiliary room set up like a cafeteria with bright lights. While the seating area was not ideal the worst part of the night was that the fire alarm went off 4 different times during the dinner and the entire restaurant filled with smoke because the kitchen hoods stopped working. It was very distracting and unpleasant. I picked McCormicks for a premium experience for my family and was highly disappointed. What did McCormicks do about it??? Absolutely nothing. I do want to say however that our server was very good.
We will not return to the Tigard location. We dined here a couple of times with good results many years ago. Then, on Christmas Eve four years ago, we planned to have a nice dinner, except that the experience was so bad we left before our entrees were brought out. We decided to try again, hoping that the four years had given them time to fix the concerns we'd had from before, but it wasn't. We did eat our entrees this time, although it wasn't a particularly enjoyable evening out. We made our reservations three weeks ahead for Christmas Eve and got seated in the bar for our dinner. We voiced a concern about being seated in the bar, but the hostess said they were seating there because it was such a busy night. Somehow no one else with reservations was seated in the bar, so we felt like we'd been singled out. Why, I don't know. When our entrees arrived, my date's shrimp weren't cleaned ahead of cooking and serving them to him. (Gross! This review can't really be suggesting that I post a picture of the meal. I mean, no one wants to see the shrimp they served my date.)
We have had a couple of good dinners at the Beaverton location and may return there since we have received several gift cards for McCormick & Schmick's as gifts. The Tigard location is conveniently a mile from home, but it's worth going a longer distance to know that we will have an enjoyable experience somewhere else.
A crowd for the holidays was an afterthought here. They had tables added in the already narrow walkway and need to really just rethink their entry way. They have people waiting for tables with an event room immediately to the right as you walk in. Not to mention the hostess stand and bar entry/drink pick up right where the kitchen entry and bathroom entry is situated. It’s just a poorly, not very well thought out layout. This time the food was really good and we had gift cards so it was a pretty ok visit. But we’d never spend that kind of money there on our own.
A disappointing experience on Christmas Eve. Expected a fine dining experience but was served only good service. The King Crab was dry. The fish and chips was disappointing. The fish was too salty and the fries were reminiscent of old fries from a fast food restaurant. The clam chowder was good but lacked above average flavor for a nice restaurant. Lastly, the calamari appetizer was excellent and the dipping sauce that accompanied was well matched. Service was great and decor was destive but for the cost, we will not return.
Let me begin by saying that we are regular customers at this location. That said, our Christmas Eve dinner was a trainwreck.
I was so impressed when they called to verify our reservation and asked if any special accommodations were needed. So great, right!? My partner just had knee replacement, so no stairs was a fantastic suggestion. Where did they seat us? Upstairs.
Went on to order prime rib well done. Sent it back twice as it came out medium rare... Twice. The third time - still inedible, we gave up. During the second return to the kitchen, as all other diners were done, the server offered a refill on the cocktail. I would have expected this to be on the house. Nope.
We had a party of 12 at this location for Thanksgiving and spent a lot. Sad to go from hero to zero so quickly.
I am used to eating veggies/fish/meat steamed, seared in olive oil etc.
The ingredients of the meals were “convoluted/overpowered” by spices,-especially salt and pepper.
My acquaintance thought it was the greatest food,-because he is used to eating this kind of food....
Both of our steaks were cooked as ordered but the food was just barely warm. Fresh asperagus was cold. Waitress was quite distracted. Brought our to-go bag and said, “so you said you ate too much and don’t want dessert” started to hand us our bill. We stated that we may be interested in dessert and definitely coffee. Food was tasty but we’re not fans of cold food.
We’ve been coming to M & S for over 10 years and this was probably the worst. Though we were quite early, we waited in the bar, then at least another 20 min past our reservation time, even though there were many tables open. A cluster of staff were waiting and bumping into each other like a keystone cop movie. Our “wait for a table” drinks were sloshed out and came nearly 3/4 full & were so sticky we had to go wash up. Felt like a rip off. Finally at our table our waitress was really wonderful. Food overly expensive: though portions very nice, spinach was way too salty and the presentation felt like a Best Western, rather than a Hilton. Everything was just plopped on our plates with no flair at all. Trouble with the Landrys account seemed odd. Finally, the bread practically broke our teeth. The waterfront M&S has luscious bread, & this one should also...I’m just saying. We’ll try there again, but not for a while.
Sadly this will be the last time we go to this restaurant. It started with the Manager, Derek, saying 'this is an on line reservation' outloud. I had made my reservation with Opentable noting a booth by the window or a booth would be great. It took Derek over a minute or two to look at our reservation and the proceed to walk us past an empty booth to sit us next to open window booths, but instead a wall table. Of course I just asked for the booth and mentioned it as he then gave us the table we passed. Our server was Mary, nice lady, but asked if my husband wanted ground pepper for his salad, to which he said yes. It wasn't at the local station 'someone took it' so she left and never came back with the pepper. When I order my filet, I asked 'which potato option was the best'. Of course she said the most expensive 'the lobster mashed'. It literally came with 3 small (not meaty, but the red ends) of lobster. Not in the potatoes, just 3 little pieces set on top. It would be better to get the regular potates that come with it and ask for the $10 lobster tail to add your own lobster. It wouldn't come with the sauce, but isn't 'lobster mashed' about the lobster? When we arrived at McCormicks they had a $5 movie special; any meal and you could be a $5 movie ticket. We told Mary, from the beginning we'd like two tickets. Of course the bill came with no tickets, so we had to remind her. And then the topper, the manager never checked us in so OpenTable emailed me 'you didn't show up to your reservation....' Seriously!? The manager was the person at the hostess desk and he forgot? The whole experience was a bust and sadly this was a rare romantic evening my husband and I were on. Not worth going back as this is our 2nd time at this restaurant and the last time was similiar which was why it took us a year or two to come back.
We showed up 5:30 for a 6:00 pm reservation and entered the bar. It was busy and there was a table opened up that had not been busted yet but we took it. We waited fifteen minutes for someone to clear the table , another five to get our drink order in and then the waiter tells us we should hurry if we want anything off the happy hour menu because we only had ten minutes left. He promptly disappeared, not to be seen in time to order before 6:00. Our full group of 6 arrived and we let the hostess know, she came to my bar table and explained that as soon as i paid my bar tab she would seat us. I wasn't sure why the bar tab couldn't follow me to my table but ??? I the waited for the disappearing waiter to pay my tab, My wife who was now standing awkwardly in the foyer with our family waiting to be seated explained the waiter dilemma with the hostess who then got my bill for us which I paid and was then seated. I have never felt so distrusted in my life. One has to ask if they regularly have a problem with getting stiffed on the bar bill or what. Dinner and the initial service was fine although 6 of us were stuffed into a booth while they were clearly open tables available. I am 6-4 tall and one of my sons is 6-5 , it was obvious we were squished but to no avail. After dinner our server seemed to abandon us as well as we sat with a table full of dirty plates needing to be cleared. Not sure what happened there.
All in all:
The service was less than stellar for monies spent.
The food and drinks and dessert were fine, no complaints although the truffle fries did nothing to make me feel like a teenager as promised by Richard, our server.
The common sense aspect seemed to be lacking altogether, the bar tab, the small booth for our large group, the dirty table and such.
In closing I'll say this; I have had company party's at this restaurant and other special occasion dinners as well there but I will not be back given the many similar choices in the food service industry.
