Mazzi's is still a "must visit" when in Eugene. Unfortunately, as a lot of recent reviews have indicated, the service has suffered significantly. This is not because the wait staff lack the necessary skills, but because they are dramatically understaffed. We were seated for our reservation a full 40 minutes late. We thought that no one was leaving the restaurant because they were lingering over their meals, but instead they were waiting on their servers and the kitchen to receive their food. There were multiple tables needing to be bussed. Once seated, it took another 15 minutes for someone to greet us. They were apologetic and, since the restaurant seemed to be clearing out, ended up making up for lost time with relatively quick service and turnaround for extra bread, drinks, etc. Again, our waiter was quite good when given a reasonable workload. The Baked Ziti and Calzone were everything I remembered them to be. Flavorful, authentic and with generous servings. Can't been Mazzi's for quality. Staff it properly and it will continue to be one of Eugene's gems.
Mazzi 's is a well established area restaurant. If you like Italian, you are in the right place!
Our food was wonderful every last bite. We love Mazzi’s .
Great service, fresh and delicious food. It was our first time visit and we will be returning. It was my husbands Birthday, and they made it special.
Very poor service. Had to wait 30 minutes for drinks and our food was made incorrectly.
Very disappointing. Service was horrible. Pasta was way over cooked
They are severely understaffed. We waited over an hour to get our food. When it did come it was the wrong order. Overall the food was pretty good. The Caesar salad left much to be desired.
First time using Open Table - great experience. Only suggestion for Mazzis is that they offer options for smaller options
Our server was a very friendly young man, but he was spread thin with too many tables to serve. It took 15 minutes to get water and have our orders taken. The best part about the food was the bread from Hideaway bakery. The bolognese and baked ziti with sausage were both lacking in flavor and had very little meat. It took 45 minutes to get our entrees after ordering and the Caesar salad dressing was thin and bland with dried Parmesan powder. This is the second disappointing meal I’ve had there and the last one was two years ago, before Covid. You’ve lost our business.
Our waitress was working her first shift, and she was fabulous. I think she knew I was falling in love with the lady I was with. Great experience!!
Great Service, Table was Waiting @ Prescribed Time, Waiter was Professional & Efficient... Food was Hot & Very Good... Rolls were Plentiful... The New Strawberry ShortCake was Fabulouso...
Order anything!!! All of it is delicious. The bar portion/drinks i should say not the best but the food is why ya go anyway. Average $20 a plate, guaranteed you be full and satisfied and glad you went
Our server was brand new, very pleasant. The food was so so. Not like it has been in the past. One really nice experience is that we sat right next to the fire, as I usually run cold in restaurants, this was not care, Nice and cozie.
This place is just Italian comfort!
A comical experience unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed at a restaurant. Thoroughly understaffed and unprepared. It was a Friday night during a pandemic, they had customers, and I saw a total of 3 employees all night! We waited in reception for FIFTEEN Minutes before we saw anything resembling a host. Just terrible and undeserving in a time when restaurants are struggling......GO SUPPORT SOMEBODY ELSE. This place doesn’t deserve your support. You don’t deserve the agitation. Hopefully this place will go by the wayside and another deserving restaurant out there receives the support to live on during a difficult time.
Mazzis is one on of my favorite places to eat. The food is delicious and the service is amazing. I recommend the stuffed mushrooms!
It was amazing! I grew up going to Mazzis as my date place and I hadn’t been in years but everything was amazing as I remembered! Thanks for the wonderful meal!
We had the first seating and left 2 hrs later. The soup was lukewarm, the pesto dry yet the seafood pasta was delicious. The service was extremely slow requiring my husband to go to the front to pay our bill even after asking for it. Our server didn’t recognize him and proceeded to try and seat us. We will not be revisiting.
Good service, covid clean and precautions, great food and drink! We love their outdoor patio, they just opened their outdoor bar, we can't wait to go there and The Hideaway Bakery!
Mazzi's is always great, even when you have to dine outside. The overhead heaters make it very comfortable.
I don't think I've ever been disappointed with Mazzi's food or service.
Unfortunately they were out of stuffed mushrooms!
Eggplant was good and the vegetables were fantastic!
This was our first visit to Mazzi's, and it was a very welcome treat during Covid to eat on their patio. Service was excellent, food was top quality and ready in under 15 minutes. We'll be back!
The food was amazing. The. Best we have had in years here! Lasagna, cannelloni and the meatball ravioli all delicious!!! It was a little different because we had to sit outside but our server Liam (hope I have his name right) was just the best!!! Take out or dine outside, support this wonderful restaurant!
The service was outstanding, our waiter was kind and checked in just enough.
Unfortunately the manicotti was off the menu so my wife ordered the white sauce ravioli and wasn’t too impressed. I ordered Aunt Rose’s pasta with bowtie noodles and added shrimp and it was absolutely fantastic. My only regret is not having them add some spice. Rolls are delicious as usual. Great atmosphere.
This was a great way to get reservations. It was easy and functional.
Dinner was great, and our waitress was the best! We unfortunately ended up being seated next to a very loud, obnoxious, extroverted older couple who were trying to make friends with everybody in the restaurant and out on the patio. It was pathetic to observe. Other than that, our dinner was wonderful.
The food was really good, as it historically has been. But frankly, the service was poor. A good 15 minutes before anyone arrived at our table, another 5 for drinks to arrive, inattentive waitress. They were not very busy at all.
I made the reservation for our Anniversary dinner. Reservation was 630, they finally sat us at 650. It took them another 15 minutes before the bartender came over and asked to get drinks started ( not our waiter ). Finally after we ordered our food, at 755 we told them we were leaving. We hadnt even got our food yet. We actually took our food home in boxes and hour and a half after our reservation, without eating. They comped our meal, but totally ruined our Anniversary. I will never go back!
I would always recommend Mazzi's! I have bern going here since I was a young girl. This was the first time since virus... We got there a little late and they were out of calamari and cesar salad and meatballs.. Get there earlier for better selection.. Im so glad to support our local delicious restaurants.
We have been visiting Mazzi's for years. We always enjoy it but seems to be getting quite expensive and our Calzone is lacking in what is inside. Mostly dough.
We had a wonderful dinner at Mazzi’s. The Brussels Sprouts were amazing!
The lasagna was really good. Scampi with pasta not too flavorful. Ceasar salad was good.
All in all pretty good. Really nice waiters.
Ok so we went not only during Covid 19 but also there was heavy smoke from holiday farm wild fire. The meal was excellent, they’re doing a great job separating space for Covid, the service was slow but hey times are tough right now. They may of been short staffed. Otherwise, great as always.
Great food and service as always.
In a Covid world it's tough to be too critical of any restaurant willing to be open at all. With social distancing measures in place, the dining area was delightfully open and quiet. We were seated promptly, and the service was excellent. We have both eaten here many times before.
Unfortunately, the food was not up to par. The cannelloni was dry and unappetizing, and by the time my wife was able to get more sauce to try to moisten it up, it was cold. I had a seafood fettuccine dish that, as I recall, was presented as primavera. It had very few vegetables, and the alfredo sauce had an orange tint to it and tasted a bit like maybe they had used cheddar cheese in the recipe. (??)
I ordered a sidecar after inquiring whether they could make one, specifically requesting Hennessey. It tasked like a watered-down lemon drop- not what I was expecting. My wife's vodka martini was great. I also enjoyed two glasses of barbera, which was very tasty.
Ordinarily, I would describe Mazzi's as a 3-1/2 star restaurant. I don't know it the issues I cited above were Covid related, staffing issues, or what. Given the dearth of places to dine-in in Eugene, I'm sure we will return, and hopefully Mazzi's will be back to its prior form.
Would I recommend it to a friend (as asked by Open Table)? My answer is maybe, but there's no button for that. I'll click yes with reservations.
Had a 5:30 reservation. Only a few other tables. We had to ask several times for service. Finally got our food at 7:50. Very disappointed. Will never be back.
Food was great as always... very understaffed , waitstaff were overwhelmed. Felt bad for them...the Boss man was just standing around visiting with his "special customer I guess" and was of no help to the rest of the staff.
We ordered the minestrone soup, large salad with blue cheese and split a meat calzone. Food was excellent. Felt bad for the staff. Kinda short handed but we got there at 6:30 with a reservation. But after they got some bugs worked out it was great!
