Maypop

To our surprise, we learned on arrival that we were the last booking for the foreseeable future. Rather than cutting corners so everyone could leave, the bar, kitchen, and servers went out of their way to make the meal a memorable one. Maypop adhered to its alway high standards, which we really appreciated. As we left, several staff came out to say goodbye. We told them we hoped to be the first booking at the eagerly anticipated reopening.
Inventive, delicious food. Really enjoyed the cocktails too!
We went for lunch and loved the Asian touch to Cajun cooking. The Bread service and the Gulf fish in crawfish coconut cream were excellent.
We arrived at 6pm for our reservation for dinner for four people. We had tickets at the theater across the street for a show starting at 8pm, and we informed our waiter of this. We thought we had allowed plenty of time for dinner. The service was very, very slow. The entree portions were also very small. By 7:45pm we still did not have our desserts or our ticket and had to cancel our desserts and ask our server several times to please get our ticket taken care of quickly. There are a lot of great restaurants in New Orleans in the CBD, so I doubt we will return to Maypop.
First, and foremost, the food is evocative and wonderful! Would absolutely recommend everyone step out of the usual NOLA fare and give Maypop a try! I am sure it was just a fluke but we did have some service issues - they directed us to sit with a 6-person group that was already seated (we were NOT part of that group - awkward!, brought an appetizer to our table that was not ours (no big) and didn’t bring the bread service we ordered (sigh - it looked wonderful on other tables!). Again - I sincerely believe this was just an off service night and will head back to Maypop next time in NOLA!
It was wonderful in all ways. Make your reservation!
Our whole experience was amazing, from our server’s fabulous suggestions, to the cocktails, to the wine, to the entrees, to the dessert. We will definitely be back!
Love this place! We've been wanting to try this place forever and walked passed it tonight and decided to try it out. The cocktails were inventive and tasty and the food was to die for. I'm usually not a curry person but oh lawd this place does it oh so right. Our server Neha (spelling?) was so attentive, warm and friendly and always had a genuine smile on her face. I'm so glad we stopped in. I just wish we had room for dessert! Next time :)
Anniversary
Food was all good. Wok lamb was a little salty. Loved the smoked fish dip. Nice spot. Server was very good.
Truly fantastic food with incredible service in a lovely setting. I cannot recommend Maypop enough. As for what to choose, I don't think you can go wrong. I had the fresh fish and fried oysters, and my companion had the duck ham. We also had a side of bread rolls that were to die for. And the salted carmel cake?! Good Lord, it was good.
This is a very good Asian-Fusion place to eat. Excellent menu. Had a difficult time choosing what to eat. Everything was interesting and tempting. A great experience.
Some of the best food in New Orleans. Unique mix of flavors and textures make this a wonderful dining experience. Recommend sharing plates among the table. The wine list is very nice too.
Very good Vietnamese Creole fusion. Highly recommend. Service was friendly and helpful.
My husband had the turtle bolognese and loved it. Everything we had was wonderful. We had an excellent server and a great bottle of wine, as well. We will definitely return.
We went before a Pelicans game for Happy Hour and then some. Our fourth visit and each time better than before. Chef Michael is the greatest!
Delish! Drinks service was a little slow, but other than that it was fantastic.
Fabulous service!
Great food. The bread was fantastic. We had the market fish and definitely order again. Dessert has great choices and worth saving room for. Drinks were creative and good.
The service is great, however, that was the only positive thing about our dinner, food was not good and what is described in the dish is not what you get. For example, I ordered gnocchi and the dish came with pasta. Very disappointed.
Nice flavors but small portions, should be 15% larger. I left hungry. Avante gard combinations of flavors is great. Approached with open mind, but not enough food
I think the restaurant needs to diversify its menu. The appetizers do not reflect the types of choices you see at MoPho, nor are they as good. Same for entrees. note we were there on Lundi Gras, but the service was too slow and inattentive.
One of my favorite restaurants. Very high quality!
The restaurant was tastefully done, very modern, with a great ambiance. The fusion between asian and southern is very evident. A lot more Thai in my opinion between the use of curry, coconut milk and spices. We sampled most of the dimsum & it was delicious, loved the calamari. We had the semifreddo for dessert and that was the highlight! Such a palate cleanser for all the different things that you’ve eaten. The chef provides an amuse bouche on their take of a fusion beignet & truffles at the end of your meal to sum it all up. This is a must try if you’re visiting New Orleans!
The food was beautiful and our server was efficient and sweet.
So good! Refreshing and delicious, it’s now on my favorite restaurant list in New Orleans !
Very delightful experience!!
A new find just down the road from an old favorite. An interesting menu that has a thread of Asian flair throughout. Great atmosphere and attentive servers. Interesting menu and everyone was quite pleased with everything other than dessert which left even the savory lovers wishing for a bit more sweet.
I’ve been here multiple times since they opened and every visit is outstanding. The menu is constantly being updated with fresh, unique dishes accented with many special items that are created in-house and sourced locally. The service is always on point - you can feel that everyone who works here enjoys their job; they do their best to make guests feel as comfortable as possible. Even when it’s been extraordinarily busy, all of the staff are smiling and patient. I’ll be back again and again!!!
Maypop never disappoints! Everything we had was delicious.
What an awesome happy hour menu! Everything has great spice and flavor. Menu is eclectic but so yummy. Highly recommend the spicy steam bun and s’mores dessert.
Superb, inventive food and cocktails, good wine selection.
Birthday celebration with my sister. Wonderful waiter and amazing food. Will definitely be back!
I had a lovely dinner early on a Monday evening with two colleagues from work and a visitor from out of town. The menu was diverse enough that we all found exciting options, and my colleague was delighted to discover that one of his favorite wines was available with a very minimal mark-up over retail. My only complaint is that we waited a very long time for our cocktails when the bar did not appear to be at all busy, but once they were served everything else came along in a timely manner. Our server was excellent, made great recommendations and knew the menu backwards and forwards. I will definitely be back soon!
Birthday celebration
I found the menu to be limited, but overall the experience was great.
I found Maypop to be a little overrated. The food was interesting - we love fusion foods but the sauces seemed a bit over salted and/or over sweetened. We tried one of everything on the dim sum menu. The soup dumplings did not have soup in them. They were tasty but when poked open, they did not have soup inside like we'd expect from traditional soup dumplings. The sesame balls were very yummy. We did not get the baos because the steamer broke? but i feel a kitchen should be able to improvise how to steam something, especially since they were not that busy at the time. They did however more than make up for it with comp desserts which were delicious. I would still recommend this restaurant because the service and atmosphere were impeccable and the food is interesting with neat flavor combinations.
Best fried oysters of our lives. Such an amazing fusion of so many styles and flavors. Eat here!
Innovative menu, and every app and entree simply delicious. Desserts, too, unique and memorable (in a good way). Excellent service and fun ambience. We’ll be back on next trip to NOLA.
Food was good and too noisy for me
