Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Maynards offers a "great dining experience" with "excellent food and service." The menu features inventive dishes, including "perfectly cooked scallops" and a "delicious crab and squid ink pasta." The ambiance is enhanced by its unique location in a historic train station. However, some find the food "overly salty" and portions small.

The server was highly knowledgeable in explaining both the beverage and food choices and the restaurant was willing to accommodate preferences and allergies. There is a variety of options for those who prefer vegetarian courses, fish, seafood, poultry, or beef. All the dishes were well prepared. Our foursome had a great dinner and a lovely evening.!

Had reservations before going to the play at ATC. We were seated quickly, our server was very knowledgeable and had great suggestions for dinner. My wife and I had a glass of champagne followed by dinner, my wife ordered the scallops, it looked amazing and tasted even better. I ordered the chef’s rotating steak cut, it was outstanding. We both love the restaurant, the food, service and ambiance. Our go to dinner place downtown.

We went to Maynards in Tucson for their Mother’s Day special. It was a prix fixe menu at $55 per person. I was with my parents and my brother. None of us had been there before, so we didn’t know what to expect. It seemed like they were going for a tearoom-style experience. However, the tea was self-serve and located outside the restaurant. There were a few hot and iced options with sweeteners, but no creamers or milk. I would’ve liked the option to make a proper milk tea. Our server was pleasant but didn’t explain anything beyond what was already on the menu. There wasn’t much guidance, and it felt like they just expected us to figure it out on our own. We were first served bread and pastries. The bread was good, but the pastries were cold and tasted like they came from a grocery store. Next came a small cucumber and cream cheese sandwich. It was a nice bite, but I wish it had been a little bigger or paired with something else. There were four entrées to choose from. My dad and I got the pork belly pastrami sandwich, my brother got the frittata, and my mom had the short rib hash. The pork belly sandwich was a disappointment. It was fried, which made it hard and chewy. I’ve had pork belly pastrami before and expected something tender. This was tougher than jerky. My dad had a hard time eating it because of his dentures, and I felt bad for recommending it. My mom enjoyed her dish but said the portion was small. My brother thought the frittata was dry. Dessert looked nice but didn’t taste great. Every table got one dessert tower with the same amount of pastries, no matter how many people were at the table. That didn’t seem fair. Most of the desserts were overly sweet and forgettable. The only one that stood out was the boozy mini cupcake. In total, it was $220 for four people. Given the quality of the food and the lackluster service, it just didn’t feel worth it. We wanted to like it, but the experience didn’t live up to the price.

A bit more protein would have been nice on the brunch offerings, but otherwise things were great!

Very overpriced for mediocre food and drinks. The food does not match the ambiance. I was really disappointed in the food. My crab pasta was so salty I could barely eat it. They are going for Michelin vibes but are nowhere close. I won’t be returning. The service and ambiance were both excellent though.

Service was great. The outside patio with the trains going by was very cool. The food, however, was incredibly disappointing. Every entree came out so overly salted to the point where neither myself or my friend could eat our meals and we are not the type to leave a good meal uneaten! Like so much salt. We spoke to our server and she was kind and voided one entree and brought out a complimentary dessert, but it was a let down to miss out on a good meal that night while visiting Tucson. I had such high hopes.

Service was great, my steak was cold and the beans that came with it were only half cooked and very hard.
