Excellent quality food - the "country" potatoes and the bacon are worth the visit but I'm also a big fan of their coffee and complimentary orange juice at breakfast
Great food and good vibe. Able to have a conversation!
Tough to get a 2nd drink from the Bar, until your dinner arrives and then you will be half done with dinner - always cold inside, better in the spring or summer - does not serve Tito's vodka, or any other gluten free drinks nor bread - isn't this Palo Alto - Food is ok not great
Great recommendations from our server. An excellent meal over all. Mayfield is a favorite!
Extremely overpriced. We were served 2 raw chicken sandwiches and received zero discount. Instead they replaced the food with a more expensive item. The food was either really salty or bland. There was no consistency. The only good part was the bread and cookies. If I ever go back it will be for the bakery and thats it.
The menu was small and was not clear on the non-alocohol beverages. We had to get a waiter to bring us a different menu for the 2nd time in order to show the reg. drinks like tea an coffee options.
My friend and neighbor loves it here. We ate here together before and always enjoy it. The short ribs on polenta was fabulous and her Petrale sole in parchment was light and very good too! The cranberry buckle cake was recommended and it was delicious It has inspired me to find a recipe and try to recreate it.
Service was good. Fried chicken was unexceptional and burger was underdone. Pomegranate gingeraid was refreshing.
French bistro climate. Very good kir royal and bread.
Best restaurant in all of Palo Alto
Have been a loyal customer and enjoyed the food, but something was very wrong with the Tuscan Kale Salad with chicken. In the past, the salad included fresh walnuts and other wonderful ingredients, and the chicken addition was a warm rotisserie half breast, sliced thinly across and placed on the side. The salad we experienced had large cubes of apples and the chicken was cold and also cubed, as if it was taken from a refrigerator after several days. I hope Mayfield realizes that quality of food is the prime reason customers come back. I am moving to another venue at the Stanford Shopping Center, with several new organic restaurants opening there.
Crowded and louder than expected for a Sunday morning brunch
Met my college student for brunch on a Sunday. The food was quite tasty (I had the French omlette with brie and mushrooms, he had the French toast with caramelized bananas) and was served quickly. However, the noise level was so loud that I could barely hear him without learning across the table. The wait staff was a bit rushed, and didn't come by to refill water or coffee automatically, but was quick to do so when asked. I would go back again, but perhaps not during prime brunch time (10:30 am).
We love Mayfield. Whether dining inside or out on the patio, it is always worth the visit. With the bakery right next store you are assured of excellent breads, madalenes, cookies, etc. The service is always friendly. Wise to book ahead on weekends.
I ordered the roasted Brussel sprouts and the beet and bread salad with chicken. My friend ordered the braised short ribs with veggies. It was all perfect except for the table next to us, big, lots of kids and quite loud. Oh well, it was still good!!!
The food was amazing and the ambience was perfect for hanging out with great friends on a Friday. Highly recommend the chocolate chip cookie for desert!
This is my favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. I make it a point to try and order foods I normally don't like because Mayfields makes everything spectacular!! And it's turned me into a pepper and parsnip lover.
My second time eating there and unfortunately the value was not satisfactory. 84.00 for french toast and a fried chicken sandwich? The servings of french toast wasn't presented on the plate with any flare for the 16.00 price. It's bread. I suspect that I was charged for the adult plate when given the kids plate instead (which is half the price).
Usual love this place, but this time it was a real disappointment. The service was very spotty and slow. Took us over 2 hours to have a simple lunch! The main entree of pasta arrived COLD--not even room temperature. No apologies when they heated it up. Never got any bread even though everyone else did. No one asked how things were going or checking back. Very loud also.
Good fresh food and friendly service!
Pork chop was time die for. Mixed drinks seemed just a bit weak. Next time, I will go for the wine.
Food was good as usual but service was very disappointing.
the noise level was terrible, my hamburger served in such a way that I could not eat it. our seats in the booth were so low I felt as I needed a booster seat as did my 5'7" friend.
It used to be a great place.
Love Mayfields - consistently delicious and great service!
Everything was perfect except we believe the place was really busy which slightly affected our service. While the ambience was charming, from a food perspective, my husband did not enjoy his fried chicken as much as he would liked to as it arrived slightly cold and under cooked which we suspect was also since the kitchen was super busy.
Delicious madeleines and bread from their bakery, though the toast was drenched in butter. Not a ton of options for vegetarians. Generally speaking, everything was overpriced.
6:15 dinner on a Friday night. Started with the olives, they were quite salty. Complimentary bread went well with the butter.
Pasta dish was quite good.
Short rib was more a pot roast. Not tender at all, and served with quite bitter greens.
Service was quasi-attentive.
Overpriced. Second time I visited in the past 7 months. First time the service was - well, they just forgot the 6 of us. This time it was $70 - lunch for two, no alcohol or dessert. Food was mediocre.
best breakfast ever - I had the eggs benedict and they were the most delicious eggs benedict I had ever had. so fresh and luscious with the right consistency cooked and balance of hollandaise, ham and artisan bread. the orange juice was yummy too. It was so nice to get a salad with the eggs but the dressing could've been less generous on the pour - but still delicious.
the only drawback was that it's a little too noisy for easy conversations. our server was great but a less hectic/noisy breakfast would've been a preference.
Is always a great experience. Nice place and atmosphere and great pastry election!
Fantastic food. Loved the ambiance.
Excellent food, horrible service. I do not appreciate paying close to twenty dollars for food and then being treated like trash by the waitress. It is unacceptable for someone at a restaurant of this caliber to treat people poorly because they are young. Assuming that young people will not tip you well and treating them accordingly is the way you get bad tips from young people. Please improve this.
Awful..cold food twice on Christmas! This was a very uneasy and unpleasant dining experience and too dark.
A really nice place to have a relaxing lunch, if you've got the cash not to fret over a nearly $20 hamburger. It IS a good one, though.
Too expensive for the type of place it is and it location. They have fancy prices for a place that is far from fancy. Too bad.
loved every minute Thank you! Food and service were perfect!!
I've always had good food and excellent service here over the years.
In spite of its name, it's not much of a bakery or cafe. The decor is casual, warm wood with white table cloths. Understatedly elegant and cozy. Grab one of the limited outdoor seats on the patio or an inside window.
One of my favorite places on the peninsula to share a nice meal with friends.
We really love Mayfield! We drive 3 hrs to treat ourselves to this wonderful restaurant. Would love to live closer to partake in the ambiance and delicious cuisine more often.
Mayfield can be hit or miss. They serve solid farm-fresh California fare. I go there for breakfast regularly and have had dinner there several times. When they are not busy and the service is fast it can be great. But when they are busy, the noise is loud, the kitchen is slow, and your Eggs Benedict may be served lukewarm.
It's hard to tell which Mayfield you're going to get. Try going off-peak for the best shot at getting the good Mayfield.
Love that Porkchop it is fabulous.
