Contemporary American
Rustic; Wood-fired; Sustainable and seasonal. These are the hallmarks of the dishes that can be enjoyed during breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Many of the dishes draw inspiration from the wonderful fresh-baked breads produced right next door at our Bakery. And all of our meals feature organic, seasonal and sustainable ingredients, many of which are prepared in the kitchen's wood-fired oven and rotisserie, which allow for long-cooked flavors, and for the simple, fresh ingredients to shine.

Great brunch spot - food was excellent, staff attentive and helpful. Little loud.

Really disappointed on our meal. The food was extremely underwhelming, especially for the price. We came about a year ago and really enjoyed the food and had great service, but things seem to have gone downhill since then. We won’t be returning.

Good for a quick business lunch. Service was excellent. Overpriced. A garden salad with grilled chicken added was 24$. It is over the top, like most things Palo Alto.

Good place but service and organization is spotty including the severs actually trying to be helpful - will try them a few more times to see if they can become consistent

Really do not like this menu for lunch....could be so much better! In fact, it use to be better, I think?
I had the impossible burger and it was impossible to believe how terrible it was....along with the side salad drenched in dressing.

We went to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday. The soup was cold the fries were cold the chicken sandwich was dry. All of the food came out at the exact same time to top it off I made it a point to tell the hostess we were celebrating a special event and at the end of the meal the birthday wasn’t acknowledged. Such a poor experience.

Food was excellent. But I am 41 weeks pregnant and asked to sit at a table instead of a booth. Was put in a booth even though there were plenty of open tables. This was a little shocking and definitely soured the experience.

So-so food. Soft scrambled eggs overcooked, rubbery and cold. Very expensive even for Palo Alto.
Hostess ignored us while she occupied herself with the computer, straightened up the menu stack and took a long phone call before telling us our table was not ready.
On being seated we asked for the corner table next to us so that one of us with an injured leg could elevate it and were told the table was reserved for three. We were two. A few minutes later and before anything had been served the hostess seated a party of two at that corner table.

I want to love Mayfield and they are so close. My last visit, the soup and vegetables were over salted. The booths have low seats/high table tops and slopping benches.

Enjoyable as usual with tasty fresh food. This time we had a particularly nice waiter too who had good food suggestions.

Although open table marked me as a no show and refused to honor my reward card after spending 30 minutes with customer “service” the restaurant graciously and kindly comped a portion of our meal so that we wouldn’t be unhappy. Kudos to Mayfield Bakery Cafe and shame on open table

We ordered soup and bread with some appetizers and drinks. We love their bread so went specifically to enjoy it with soup. The server was completely clueless. Brought the drinks, appetizers and bread but not the soup. We waited for one hour to get our soup. ONE whole hour! Our bread was cold when the soup arrived. We had to ask the waiter 4 times to get our soup!

Met my sister and her friend for dinner. My sister indulged in the pot pie which our waiter told us that they only made a certain amount a night bc the chef is particular (which I appreciate); I had the brick chicken with duck fat potatoes and watercress. The chicken was tender; just two potatoes and the watercress was two leaves - a garnish. I had the impossible burger last time I was there and that or the pot pie would have been better choices. I guess I expected more potatoes or a watercress salad accompaniment. My sister’s friend had the pepperoni pizza. It was ok but not really worth the calories. The friend had the afogato for dessert which was indulgent and delicious and we three had decaf cappuccinos - coffee was good and not burnt. Good value, convivial atmosphere, birthday celebration at the next table with the waiter graciously taking a photo. People were coming in for loaves of bread and baked goods - I’ll need to check that out another time. Yes, I would go again.

I used to come here all the time and haven't in 2 years. The menu is bland and limited. The food was ok, not great. and for these prices - way overpriced. Service was GREAT. The noise level is off the scale to the point one cannot hear oneself think. I was very sad and disappointed; my old 'go to' favorite is no longer.

This is the second time I have eaten at Mayfield in the last six months. Both times, the service and food has been subpar. I had a kale salad that was basically so bland it was inedible. The next time I had a small, lukewarm piece of quiche with a bunch of lettuce on the side, a lukewarm pitcher of coffee, and (ordered) a bread which was a wedge of sourdough. My partner had a green salad with chicken. First one came without chicken. Since Mayfield opened, the quality has gone down remarkably. For the price, it just is not worth it.

We’ve been here a few times. Definitely a good experience at all times. Could be 5 stars if the servers kept a cadence of check-ins To keep our glasses full. Not a deal breaker.

Overall, the food compliments the ambiance.

Be prompt on your reservations.

I’ve been for dinner before and enjoyed it, but breakfast was a total bust. The soft scrambled eggs were anything but soft scrambled they were brown and crispy at parts and pretty flavorless. My coworker ordered the eggs Benedict and declared he’d never come back cause it was bland and undercooked. The server was not very friendly either. Overall, just super disappointing meal

This was our first visit for breakfast. Our request for a booth was granted, so we were able to talk without too much noise. Food was good and promptly delivered. I have always enjoyed Mayfield for lunch and dinner, and breakfast was equally a good experience.

This is the first time I have eaten at Mayfield Bakery in over a year. All previous meals were very good. Our meal last night was very disappointing in that their signature roasted chicken had no flavor whatsoever. Since we were with other people I elected to use the Salt and pepper at the table to give the entrée some flavor. I do have to admit the house salad and succotash side were very good. At the conclusion of the meal we were told the kitchen was closing in five minutes so we had to quickly make a decision on dessert. Given the quality of the entrée I will not be returning to Mayfield Bakery anytime soon.

I ha e dined at Mayfield for years. The food has always been consistent. The prices have become unreasonably high but the food was great. Friday night we only wanted a light dinner. Ordered a Caesar salad a half chicken to share. The salad was bland and the croutons was crazy large. I found the croutons inedible.

My chicken arrived not warm. It took too long for a new plate of chicken to arrive. The second chicken was not only warm but my white meat was very pink inside!!! It was disgusting. I complained and then it took way too long for the manager to arrive.

This was a terrible dining experience!!

I loved our dining location for a long visit, in the back of the restaurant along side the windows, until people were seated behind us, who were very loud. I was facing the entry. Everything else was perfect. The server, the food, and the replenished water bottle!

We waited for an hour and a half before our meal arrived. Moreover, the orders were wrong when we got them (appetizer was wrong and one of 3 meals was wrong) and they did not serve all of us at the same time. One meal arrived 20 minutes after the 2 meals were served ??!!! The waiter was MIA most of the night.

The only positive was the fact the manager comped the entire dinner as she has seen us patiently waiting for an hour and a half. Although we appreciated the managers gesture, the fact that this was a birthday dinner for my husband and the whole experience was extremely unpleasant ruined the celebration. I would not recommend this place !!!!

Our order was lost--kitchen? staff?--and our food took over an hour to arrive. The wait staff was appropriately apologetic and did not bill for our two glasses of wine and dessert. We declined the latter, as we had been there for long.
Still, a good family place.

Wow has this restaurant gone downhill. We've been coming since they opened. But something has changed dramatically in the service. The management clearly is not handling the staff well. Our waiter was over worked while other staff members stood around chatting and laughing with each other. There was not a sense of teamwork, rather the attitude was "this isn't my table so I don't have to pay attention". The waiter himself was very nice and enthusiastic. He just had no team support. As a result, service was slow, wine served late and never offered to be poured, dirty dishes not cleared, no offer of dessert menu, had to ask for check..... This restaurant is not competitive anymore with the other options available in the area. On top of that, the menu has changed and is very uninteresting. So sad to see the decline in what had been one of our go to places.

It was a tough night for them with a 7:30 Stanford football game coming up across the street. But they were overbooked and underprepared, and it showed. Multiple items on the menu were no longer available by 6:15. Drink orders got screwed up and service was spotty. Some of our orders came out okay, others not so much.
