Noisy. Food OK.
Love their menu. I like that their menu is not like anyone else's. The staff is so friendly. They are attentive without being overbearing. The food tastes wonderful and fresh.
This place has excellent service and a menu the caters to all tastes. I had the blackened salmon and it had just the right amount of seasoning. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs and he said the meatballs were the best he has ever had: a little bit of red pepper flakes to liven things up, and the pasta was cooked al dente perfectly.
Prices are very reasonable and portions are adequate - 3 meatballs was a nice touch as I got to eat one of them.
We had horrible service that was incredibly slow for basic brunch items that we ordered.
Front desk not welcoming.. and not honest about the seats. Why is it so hard to give tables when they are available and not ok to treat customers differently.
Always have mixed feelings coming in.
Used to be my most favorite go to brunch place on Palo Alto.
-We noticed 2 additional charges on bill, one was for employees (cover benefits), we wish restaurants would
Make it known beforehand on menu. Not a big deal, now we know. . Also waiter asked if my husband wanted toast so he assumed his eggs came with it...another $5.00 on Bill so total of $8.00 extra. Being that the food is a little pricey (I.e omelette $18. And coffee $4), just have to be aware.
-We had a crying little girl next to us outside the entire time we were there. Not the fault of the restaurant, parent or grandparent did nothing about it . Several people looked frustrated with the ongoing sobbing/whining. We left sooner than expected : / disappointed.
- We really like the mayfield bakery so we will return.
Clean, nice staff, delicious choices.
Would have preferred to eat inside but it was so loud we had to ask to sit outside. Outside was great until some very loud music came on. We asked if they could turn it down but it was still loud. Maybe we were near speakers.
Hamburger was well done when we ordered med-rare.
Fried chicken sandwich was good
The manager is wonderful-very competent and super willing to address any problems.
My only dislike is that the restaurant is much too noisy
Great outdoor brunch -- server placed a space heater near us to ensure we were comfortable in the shade.
Inattentive service with lackluster food.
Most expensive uninteresting food on the Peninsula.
Way out of line....
Everything was fresh, luscious, and delicious.
The place was overpriced for the the casual atmosphere and food quality. Good serving sizes, very capable waiters. The pizza was saggy, you could not lift a slice, the cheese slid down, the dough all wet. The tomatoes in the caprese salad were overly soft; we paid an additional $6 for a microscopic piece of burrata cheese. The cream of corn soup was thick and way too sweet, it was like having a dessert but the kernels were intact, it needed blending! The barbeque prawns were really good together with the sour dough bread. The best part of the meal was the chocolate melted cheese cookie. I would go back just for coffee and dessert.
Nice breakfast /lunch menu with tasty standard dishes done with a bit of flare. Service is very friendly and the ambience is pleasant and comfortable. The pancakes with berries were good but the avocado toast was not as tasty as I've had elsewhere. They offer the Impossible Burger. Frankly, if you want meat, just eat meat. Vegetarian food should take like delicious vegetables or legumes, and not try to be "meat". The restaurant is in a convenient location with a reasonable amount of free parking. We've had amazing breakfast food at many restaurants in the area and while the food is fine, it's not the best we've had. We go because the location and overall experience is perfectly fine for a weekend meal.
Several of the dishes were not hot, and were barely warm when served.
I had spagetti and meatballs. Warm, not hot. The meatballs were very good, the sauce was ok.
I remembered in the past that you had trumer pilsner on tap, which isn't the case now, but it's possible my memory is wrong.
Great locaation, great oak tree outside, make the food better, please.
We went there for Saturday brunch. Service is good and attentive. Just that the menu is limited and the food is a bit on the salty side. I also bought some pastries from the bakery which I think they are a bit too sweet.
Food was disappointing. Pizza was soggy, for example
On a Friday night we had the chance to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. The margaritas were excellent and light.I had the corn soup which was good but a little overpriced at $15. Watch out! The croutons served on top are quite spicy! The Waldorf salad is delicious and generous which at $24 should be . We had a wonderful server by the name of Diego.
At the end of the evening once I got home I took a look at the bill and there was an issue, however Nolis took care of it. I appreciated her time and attention to my query. Mayfield is a beautiful spot with excellent food. Tip-They need to watch their details in charges and prices.
Great food (as always) - overall good service.
I love eating here the food is delicious and always feels “clean”
We ordered the avocado toast with egg & bacon added. We asked for no chili powder, but that was not acknowledged & the dish was too spicy. My sangria cocktail was quite good. I ordered a chicken, apple & grape salad. The chicken was rubbery and too chewy. Other than that it was good. I’ve had much better meals here in the past, but I would go back.
Ate brunch there. Nice shaded outdoor eating options. Varied menu with great salad choices and delicious avocado toast with scrambled eggs.
A bit pricey but it was worth it!
We have at least one meal (often more) at Mayfield Cafe every time we visit Palo Alto. Fantastic and interesting food and nice atmosphere. A wonderful Sunday brunch experience.
It was hot summer evening and the restaurant was crowded. We ordered two salads and pizzas, together with two prime ribs. They all tasted good. But it took very long time until we got all the dishes. Especially, the salads came much later than pizzas. And the restaurant was pretty hot inside without refreshing air circulation.
Came with 2.5 yr old toddler. Accommodated meal with pasta and tomato sauce even though not yet lunch time (or lunch menu). Crayons and paper for drawing. Omelette cooked perfectly; could use more avocado and sour cream. Bacon crisp and meaty. Tomato soup rich tomato flavor w/ wonderful chopped basil, tiny bit too salty for me;fellow diner thought otherwise. Disappointing not to get to choose whether to have sweet or savory baked items as bread (got sweet muffins, wanted their country bread). Delicious overall.
Attentive service, good dishes. Heated olives came to the table a little hot. Impossible burger was a little over-salted. Solid, enjoyable dinner experience.
At dinner outside because of the nice weather, but with the cars buzzing around in the parking lot makes me want to take a table inside the next time.
Our server was excellent but the food was disappointing - flavorless. We sent back a pizza and the manager kindly offered to bring another entree but we had a show to attend and declined. Cocktails and appetizers were nice, but I won't return.
Great local offerings
Sat Brunch was great for Fathers B-day!
Current menu is very limited. Noisy inside during a busy Friday lunch . Ok service - seems better outside than in. Somehow the kitchen forgot to dress the main course salad. Also, same salad contained what seemed like over- brined chicken with weird texture and soft, flabby skin left on. Soggy fries. Will not go back anytime soon. Also the significant ‘living wage’ surcharge is annoying. The group who owns and operates the restaurant can well afford to pay their employees fairly. This is also a detail of their business that I don’t need to know. Most diners would not notice a small increase in overall prices, but claiming they can’t afford to pay fair wages is ridiculous.
Their baked goods, breads, etc. are really good as has been the burger on previous visits. Perhaps forget about the salads.
The salmon with quinoa and sugar snap peas is outstanding! Even tho it wasn’t on today’s (Saturday) brunch menu, the chef made it for me anyway. Very nice thing to do...
Great location, energetic but expensive for what you get.
Nice neighborhood spot. It was a very warm evening and the AC wasn't up to snuff. Menu needs a few more diet conscious choices. Service very attentive.
It was somewhat too noisy mainly because there was a group of people nearby celebrating for special occasion. we left for a quieter place because we had something to discuss. A few other tables were not cleaned up when I first came in. The water glasses did not seem to be very clean and rather a little greasy. The food was good, especially the kale salad. The waitress split the salad to be shared.
It was my first time there so I was looking forward to it because of the reviews. The service did not meet my expectations. The hostess appeared to be extremely stressed out but due to that she had a poor attitude and you could read the stress and how disgruntled she was on her face. I understand that it was busy but we had a reservation and she was extremely dismissive and rude. The restaurant either needs to get some additional help or offer customer service training. Our server looked like he didn’t want to be there and was unpleasant. He came by once or twice and just didn’t care. The upside was that the girl who bussed the tables was extremely nice and we even asked her if she could be our server in order to improve the experience. Unfortunately she said she couldn’t so I praised her on her amazing attitude and how she made our experience a bit better. The food was just ok.. I made a reservation for Father’s Day as well but I’ll be canceling it.
The food was OK but not inspiring and the prices seemed high for what you got. $20 or more for a cheeseburger seems high even if it's in Palo Alto. We all liked our entrees but none were fabulous. The best thing about the food was the bread, which comes from the bakery on site and is delicious. Also, the service was very slow and disorganized. The restaurant was loud which made conversation difficult. I would not recommend it.
Get the hash browns...they are life changing. Adding grapefruit juice to the avocado toast was brilliant as well.
We were heading to an evening event at Stanford. My friends were late but the kitchen and waiters took great care of us. Everyone enjoyed their food and we made it to our event on time.
