We went Wednesday to try the Beef Wellington that’s been so heavily promoted. I must say, we were extremely underwhelmed with the quality of the beef Wellington. It was missing one of the key ingredients, Pâté de Foie Gras. No Pate. Just mushrooms. Without the key ingredient the entire flavor profile of the beef Wellington was off. The chef would’ve been better off serving the fillet by itself.
The wines were way overpriced, as was the beef Wellington.
It appeared that there was only one waitress for the entire large restaurant. She was physically and mentally overworked.
We will not return.
First time tonight and it was amazing. The food and service were top notch. It was not too busy for a Sunday night so the noise level was not bad. We got the prawns appetizer, Sunday supper, and linguini with clams-every dish was delicious. I plan on bringing my friend back in the next few weeks. The bar is quite large and they are known for some really tasty cocktails. Cheers
The food and service was outstanding. The group I was with was very happy.
Sit in the bar area, the service there is great. The service in the dining room, three times now, has been slow and unprofessional. Otherwise the food is great.
Beef Wellingtons were so-so. The service was luke warm. Unlikely to return.
I am never disappointed at Maybeck's. The specials are a great value, the regular menu is always interesting and delicious. I actually look so forward to ending the meal with their wonderfully rich spumoni with its generous mix of fruit. Yes, this is my third visit and plan to return for more ASAP.
Drinks were slow, service was slow and regrettable. With so many other great spots in the neighborhood it’s hard to see how they stay in business.
Great dinner location for special occasion and Dates!
Outstanding food and service. As expected, the Wellington was a treat. Our evening was going along very well for the first 45 minutes. At that time, a group of 7-8 women was seated within 15 feet of us, and proceeded to speak/shout very loudly for the next hour. While not particularly young, they were clearly inebriated and were there to celebrate a birthday. While I recognize that this is not always avoidable, particularly with an already crowded restaurant, this group was clearly much louder than any other diners in the room and completely drowned out all other conversations at other tables. I think that San Francisco has become known for very noisy dining, even in the best of restaurants. It is about time that the manager or their representative, develop a reasonable approach to this problem. Perhaps an alternative location or a separate room could have been offered.
The atmosphere is always pleasant and the chef always goes out of his way to walk around the dining rooms and make sure his diners are attended to. Great entrees (especially on Weds) and great cocktails.
Amazing food, great value and wonderful service
Great spot! Food was amazingly great and enjoyable.......,,
We have recommended this restaurant to at least 5 people in the course of 3 days because we had such an amazing experience here! We had two people waiting on us the entire evening, the food was beyond delicious, and the ambiance was exactly what my husband hoped for his birthday! (also, the hot sauce was so good we purchased a bottle on the way out)
It is the best of the best for a local restaurant. Great food, daily specials , great bar, good prices and very very nice people. I eat there at least twice a week, and am always happy with the experience.
We came for the Beef Wellington Wednesday special an we were all well pleased with the quality of the meal and the friendly and efficient service (all five of us). Nice touch with the invitation to the kitchen for The Cutting. We'll definitely be back, and not necessarily just for the BW! Thanks for a fun night (and an excellent Manhattan).
Our first time at Maybeck's and we went on a Wednesday evening to order the beef Wellington. It was really, really good. Melt in your mouth good!
Wish I could eat here every single day! AMAZING!
Maybecks is wonderful from happy hour to the dining room, food is excellent and consistent . The Wednesday beef Wellington is quite fun to attend the ceremonial cut in the kitchen! My husband and I are VERY impressed with the bartender! He can really make a cocktail! My husband is a Manhattan guy and it’s perfect every time , as is my martini! Great place great staff and yummy!
Good food and good drinks!
The food and service were outstanding. We had oysters, risotto, linguine, chorizo crusted rockfish, chopped salad, and molten chocolate dessert. My wife and I had the rock fish, oysters and chopped salad. Our friends had oysters, chopped salad, and the pastas. We shared the dessert. We had an alberino wine that was wonderful and fit all those dishes. The staff was terrific. They were clear on their recommendations which we followed. The service was not rushed yet timely. My wife and I appreciated that our shared rock fish was split by the chef.
Food was delicious wait was very very slow felt Nickel and dimed for everything seriously $30 for clam linguine with a dozen clams then another $8 for bread $12 for a ginger beer that sells for $15 a case retail Rock cod was maybe 4 ounces with mashed potatoes for $30 Brussels sprouts were raw not braised not al dente this place has way more potential then they deliver
Excellent place to celebrate my daughter’s 30th Birthday!
The Beef Wellington was good as always! The appetizers and sides were also very good.
We arrived at 5:40pm for cocktails and were ready for our 6pm reservation, opening time. Explained to our server that we needed to be finished by 7pm, because we had an event downtown. Appetizers and salads were served quickly. Then we waited nearly a half hour after finishing these for our entrees to be served. We had to ask status since the wait was so long. The beef Wellington specialty was not up to par. The 2 pasta dishes were mediocre. We had to rush through our dinners to leave, and missed dessert. Not our best experience this time.
We loved the food. The Beef Wellington special event was a lot of fun . We had drinks at the bar before dinner. Happy hour is a non starter. Whole experience rather disappointing, they only pour premium liquor. We wanted a blended scotch and soda - we had the well scotch. It was expensive. Nice bartender but lousy selection. Next time we’ll skip the bar - go elsewhere before dinner.
We were a party of 7 at the 5:30 Saturday evening seating. Our server was very nice. We got our appetizers and drinks in a decent amount of time, but we did not get our entrees until 6:39. We had a show at the Palace of Fine Arts at 7:30 (which we thought with a 5:30 reservation, we would be fine). I believe the chef came over and said they were slicing the cote de boef, that came and finally the rest at the time noted above. We felt rushed, no time for dessert or coffee. The food was excellent but the experience was ruined.
We loved Maybeck's so much that we went twice in one weekend.
Good ambiance and great food!!
Our favorite neighborhood spot. They treat us like valued patrons and we love it!
We had the rib eye special and the steak was perfect. Great cut, cooked exactly as ordered, and really delicious. Great cocktails and service. My only negative is the noise level is pretty high making conversation a little difficult at times.
Requested a table in the alcove next to the bar in the front of the house
When we got to the restaurant, our request had gone unnoticed. But after a few minutes the staff was able to get us a table in the alcove
As this was a business dinner, having a quieter table on a busy Friday night was important to us..and it was the reason we picked Maybeck’s
Terrible service but the food made up for it.
This place was amazing!!!! A must if your in San Francisco. The chef was walking around pouring wine and saying hi to everyone. What other restaurant does that? And the food is absolutely the best! Run don’t walk.
I would normally give Maybeck's a five, but the service was, frankly, mediocre and not up to the standards of a "fine dining"restaurant. Perhaps it was short-handed, but definitely not up to prior experiences at one of my favorite restaurants in SF.
This is a great neighborhood restaurant on the corner of Scott and Lombard in the Marina district. From the outside it is unassuming but the inside is charming, lively, and inviting. We had the Skirt Steak and one of the pastas. Both great. The dessert of molten lava cake and ice cream was the best. The wait staff knew the menu well, gave great service and one of the chefs came to our table to explain the menu and deliver our wine. Overall a great evening. Highly recommended.
It was very nice
I must compliment your chefs on the cuisine....
we thoroughly enjoyed the steak tartare and the beef wellington, very delicious!!
We arrived in time to watch the chef's presentation on the preparation of this fabulous entree. We then went back to our table and ordered our food. Our server came back after we enjoyed our appetizers and informed us that she cannot fulfil 2 or our 8 orders for the beef wellington. We were so disappointed, it turned out that 4 of us had to split 2 orders. I was not only disappointed but truly embarrassed as I had invited my friends to dine at Maybeck's for Beef Wellington night. I truly raved about the wellington.
Not a good night for us and definitely not your restaurant's reputation.
Perfection! A must try!
Great little local spot, nice bar, great bartender and nice atmosphere.
There were not many options for vegetarian and vegan.
