Mayas Ratings and Reviews
I have LOVED every visit to Maya's and have recommended it to everyone, who agree it is WONDERFUL!! Sadly, we did not keep our reservation 2 weeks ago because, after getting usual confirmation from Open Table, I left 6 unreturned VM's with Maya's because I wanted to up my reservation to two more people. I was afraid to ask my out of town visitors to drive down there and park, only to find Maya's closed. When I tried through Open Table to cancel my reservation, I could not. It stated it was not taking reservations at this time. I couldn't even get in to adjust the number. I was so frustrated.
So, I have NO IDEA if my favorite restaurant is closed for business, taking a vacation (which if it is should not have accepted my reservation and confirmed it). NO notice either through Face Book. This has happened to us before...we've shown up there and there is a sign on the door stating vacation time. If so, put that on the very nice voice message or Face Book. No problem. AND...there should be some way for Open Table to commuicate with the consumer what the status of the restaurant is. I even called two businesses across the street to see if they knew anything and they did not.
PLEASE MAYAS FIND A WAY TO LET ME KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. Thanks!

Called Uber which transported our party to a dark, no lights, closed restaurant. We double checked the address confirming we were at the right location, “CLOSED!”
Our reservations were made & confirmed on OpenTable.
While in front of a dark closed restaurant my phone pings with a reservation update reminder. We were all flabbergasted 😯
On my Uber account it shows our arrival fee and we uploaded another destination from this ghost restaurant to “Dat Dog” which we all enjoyed!!
This was a major disappointment on your site users and needs to be rectified.
I have eaten at Maya's in the past and the food and service are perfectly wonderful. I cannot give a good review this time however because they weren't open, even though I had reservations. I originally called Maya's to set a reservation for my friends who were coming to New Orleans for the weekend. Their answering machine picked up and said to go to their website to book reservations. So, I did just that and made our reservation through Open Table, and received a confirmation email from Open Table. I arrived at Maya's right on time...only to find that it was closed. Not closed permanently, but doors locked and lights out. No sign explaining why they were closed or anything. I had to think quick and reroute my friends to another nearby restaurant where we had to wait for a table for nearly half an hour. Before I left the sidewalk in front of Maya's, two more people walked up and were just as flummoxed as I was. They had done the same exact thing.
We had a great night at Maya!! My daughter and I shared the mariscada which was phenomenal!! My other daughter had the tropical tilapia but wasn’t wild about the sweet sauce. We loved the tamales - both types and my spicy watermelon margarita was awesome. My husbands Pisco sour tasted off.
Overall we had a great dinner!!
My husband and I came late, just right before they closed. The staff was friendly, entertaining, and also gave us enough space to have good conversation before he left on a work trip. The slow roasted pork entree was delicious, and the strip steak over mashed potatoes was as well.
First and foremost I must say that Trinity is a freeking Rock Star! My girlfriend and I go to Maya's at least 2x a month. We go in and sit at the bar as we usually do when we eat out. Hands down trinity is our favorite bar tender in the city. He knows what we want before we do!!!! The menu is creative and clever. I very seriously doubt that you could find something bad to eat here. All of the specially drinks are next level and labor intensive. Nothing is batched! I highly recommend Maya's for the food as well as the cocktails!!!!!
Loved this gem! The chef is also the owner and he's from Central America. There's a wide variety of food options and the portions are quite sizable. We opted for the Thai soup along with a shrimp curry dish. I will definitely go back when I'm on NOLA again!
Overall I did enjoy my experience at Maya's but I was thoroughly disappointed when we received the bill. I had asked for a vodka and soda, and having worked as a bartender for years if you don't name a vodka then it is assumed you're ordering whatever the well vodka is. By the time we received the bill I had been charged $36 for three (Titos, a call Vodka) drinks. I did not ask for Titos and was not told that's what I was given. Even it's that $12 for a single shot of Titos and a single mixer (soda water) is incredibly steep. I cannot help but feel like the staff was being deceitful and will not be returning.
The food was excellent and the service was friendly but did not hover. We ordered 3 similar dishes but each had its own flavor. The flavors were fresh and not heavy at all. The service at the table was good but I was even more impressed w the service after I left. I forgot my credit card and they called me and the waiter waited outside the restaurant for me so I didn't have to park again. Such a nice guy!
ALERT: check your bill carefully! I was very disappointed with my dining experience at Mayas. Untrained staff gave the wrong prices for off the menu drink specials and attempted to charge the drinks for double the special price. When I told the waitress that I was charged the wrong price, she refused to edit my bill. Next, I talked to the owner and he called me a liar because he did not believe the waitress would tell me the wrong price for the drink special. So much for the customer always being right. I later was told that the waitress was in training, although I was never told this at the beginning of the night. The waitress in training also never had a trained waiter working with her. I had to send back my check two times because I was going to be charged for food and drinks I did not order and it took 30 minutes for me to receive the correct bill. Needless to say I will not be returning. Drinks are syrupy with little alcohol.
We had not been to Maya, in quite some time. In hindsight, I regret that. The food was quite creative (try the seafood stack), well seasoned, but not overly so. They have daily special guacamole options. We had the pork shoulder with pasta, which was unique, and delicious.
This place is definitely worth a try.
