Good food, great service and nice little find. Wish they had more options with chicken though. Nice "healthier" version of Mexican.
I love, love this restaurant. I love the decor which is an ode to dia de Muertos without being campy. There are several cozy nooks in the restaurant for an intimate, romantic dinner. I dined with my Son and we both had a lovely time. The food is a modern twist to Mexican cuisine, we ordered all the Tacos and the vegetable tacos were our favorite followed by the beef tongue then the fish tacos. We ordered the lamb nachos, plantains- like you've never had before, street corn-a must try and the tres leches cake - we ordered one to go too. The Margaritas were really good. I can't wait to go back and it will be really soon because it doesn't break the bank.
I’m always looking for new restaurants to try. Mayahuel offered a great selection of food and drinks. My coworkers and I went for happy hour and had their delicious sangrias and guacamole and chips. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos that came with rice and beans. It was a very satisfying meal.
The service was outstanding from the manager welcoming us to the server’s attentiveness to our dietary preferences.
I will definitely be back!
The best Mexican flare of food, atmosphere & service! Mayahuel is definitely Woodley Park’s go to place for an amazing Happy Hour, regular dining & delicious Mexican fusion cuisine!
The Guacamole & Sangrias are mandatory!
Not worth the extra trip in from NOVA. Would make an acceptable neighborhood joint. Absolutely great margarita, really enjoyed that. The food was just fair, ok but the fish tacos were bland, the expensive rib mole was just kind'a odd, didn't finish.
Very cool place. Nice spot if your heading to the Zoo. Definitely on the pricier side for Mexican fare, but that’s the cost of eating in D.C. We would go back.
The food was very good and the menu was small enough that we didn’t have trouble deciding what we wanted but big enough that we also had options. I got the soup with a mojito and my date got the carne asada dish. We ordered chips and salsas for the both of us. The only downside is the food isn’t very spicy. The salsa we got was salty and acidic. Although, once mixed with the hot sauce it tasted spicy enough.
Delicious and very authentic tasting Mole. Good tacos. Great drinks with interesting flavors (tamarind mango margarita was especially interesting) This space has held many restaurants in the last few years and it doesn’t quite feel like it was fully refurbished from its previous iterations into a space that really works for Mexican.
Guac, margs and brisket tacos are out of this world! One of the best Mexican spots I’ve found in dc. It’s expensive but you get very large portions.
A perfect neighborhood gem. The food was fantastic , I had a super tasty margarita, and the waitstaff was knowledgeable and attentive. I couldn't get enough of the guacamole and brisket tacos. I strongly recommend finding your way there, you will be thrilled you did.
Food and Drinks were INCREDIBLE! The room was a bit loud, but I’m old, so... you know...
SO glad we randomly chose to go there
This is my favorite spot in the Woodley Park area. Happy hour prices are very reasonable for drinks and food, and the smaller happy hour portions are still plenty of food. The brisket tacos are my first choice, but the fish tacos and quesadillas are excellent as well. As for drinks, the mango margarita is my favorite. I'd also highly recommend the spicy margarita if you like some spice. I'd recommend a reservation as they've been filling up more quickly than usual. Even the bar fills up with minimal space for standing. I wish they'd increase the number of heaters outdoors so we could continue to enjoy the patio into the cool weather!
The food and service were great! The octopus appetizer was especially yummy! However they sat us (with 2 small children) next to the drafty door so my kids were freezing then had a meltdown so we had to pack up and leave. Next time will ask for table away from the cold November wind
Really good authentic Mexican food, fill if flavor. Loved the guacamole and the beef brisket tacos. Incredibly good desserts. Try the churros with ice cream
The service and kitchen seemed to fall apart.
Great place, great food and drinks, great service. The Dos Equis 'most interesting man in the world' was there, and bought us tequila!
A great neighborhood hangout. We love this place at the end of a long workweek.
The carne asada, fish tacos and guacamole were all delicious. The service staff was excellent. It is also fairly quiet and easy to hear conversation.
Love coming here, the ambiance is nice and it is in a good area as well.
Quaint little gem with great service and good food. This is not Tex-Mex so don't go expecting that. The bar is great and the atmosphere and decorations remind you of Mexico. The Rose margarita is amazing! Food is a little spicy so heads up. The patio area is great for people watching and Happy Hour!
El dueño no quiso dar la clave de WiFi del restaurant. Hoy en día eso es inaceptable. La mesera encantadora y profesional. El dueño: sucks. La comida es decente pero no excelente. El lugar es medio lúgubre.
Great host, the manager was EXTREMELY accomadating and the waiter made GREAT recommendations!
The atun appetizer was great, we ordered tacos - lengua, beef and fish. I would have liked more flavor to my fish. The award winning margarita was good, the strawberry-basil and mango-tamarind ones a bit too sweet. overall nice atmosphere, and great addition to the neighborhood.
Celebrated my MIL’s birthday visit starting here! Tried the restaurant week menu and the food was amazing!! The churros were to die for as was all the food!
We were bringing our daughter to American University for her freshman year. I wanted a fun place she would like in walking distance of our hotel (Omni). The food was very flavorful, well prepared and the vibe is cool.
This is one of the best mexican restaurants in the DC area. Staff is friendly and ambiance is cozy and inviting. Food and drinks are delicious, made with premium ingredients. Great for a date or for small groups of friends (3-5 persons). Highly recommended!
We went here to celebrate a birthday. The ambience is great, everyone loved their food, and the prices are reasonable enough for being DC. The restaurant was a bit busy and they seemed to not have enough wait staff so service was a bit slow (the waitress and other folks were all very nice). Would definitely go back because the overall experience was good.
A very pleasant meal. The food was delicious and the service excellent.
food was ok but not authentic. Carne Asada was a bit vinagar-y and wouldn't have come with tortillas unless asked (they did bring at no extra charge). Nice ambiance, terrific server, good margarita... food was just ok.
All our dishes came out cold and flavorless, totally not worth the price. Stay away!
Great find. New neighborhood restaurant with a great happy hour menu, and excellent quality. Don’t miss the fresh shucked, spiced corn on the cob! Also highly recommend the lamb nachos.
We went to Mayahuel early on a Saturday evening and had our choice of seats. Vegetarian options were limited. We had chips and salsa, guacamole, vegetarian tacos, and fish tacos. All tasted authentically Mexican. The guacamole was chunky and flavorful, and fish tacos were cooked well and tasted fresh. The margaritas were very good. The red sangria was served in a wine glass, which made it a little hard to drink. Overall, had a great time, with good food in a relaxed atmosphere. I will definitely go back to give the rest of the menu a try.
Good service, very accommodating. Awesome food! Mesquite was 4.0! Pulpo was amazing food!!
We ate outside and it is much much quieter. Lovely dinner and great waiter.
Mayahuel is a great find! The guacamole is delicious. The margaritas are excellent. The fish tacos were excellent, although the sauce could have a bit more spice. Would like to see more vegetarian options. We will definitely be back!
Really good food. Smaller menu but very good.
Amazing food and margaritas! Our waitress Alissa was super nice and friendly and it was a perfect place to celebrate Father’s Day!
Food is pretty good but service is definitely hit-or-miss. After we were seated no one came by for 10-15 minutes. We started waving our arms and caught someone's attention. We were 2 and they served my husband's cocktail first followed by mine a good 7-10 minutes later.
This is a great addition to the neighborhood that does not have a lot of strong options. Good location, great décor, fun, and not too loud. We sat outside which was nice. The sangria is fantastic and the food was really good. I had the carne asada and my friend the fish tacos. Very good. The chips were not special - kind of plain and like the kind at the store. The salsa was good. The only sort of weakness was the service. We had to wait for menus and then drinks and then the bill. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and I would recommend it and return.
