Maya - New York Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time at Maya. Our server was fabulous and the food good. Hated our table location and the noise level was over the top...granted it was Friday night and a what seemed as a never ending happy hour was going on. We will maybe try again at a quieter time.
I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The service was poor; our waiter took 30 minutes to bring our drinks and didn't take our order until 1 hour after we arrived. We ordered drinks multiple times and asked multiple servers who then didn't bring them. The food was subpar and not worth the prices they charge. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.
Great time! Although a bit loud I honestly loved the atmosphere. The food was really flavorful albeit a bit expensive and the waitstaff was so kind and service oriented. I'm definitely coming back (even if it's just to take a shot with my waiter) highly recommend!
Went to Maya to watch the NYC Marathon - it was a perfect set up with plenty of street viewing options in the front of the restaurant. They also had much larger tables for groups towards the back of the space.
Bottomless Brunch is a must on Sundays and the Pan Dulce was a favorite!
The food has no flavor. Tried the guacamole with bacon, had the AL pastor tacos, my wife had the chicken. guacamole could have used some salt, only food I ever had where I could not taste the bacon. Al pastor, some tacos had pineapple others didn't, get it right. Too expensive for an experience that would have been beaten with a lean cuisine at home.
It may be that I'm just to old for Maya. The concept is strong, and the place is vibrant and lively. It's a great value -- $50 for all you can eat and drink brunch. But it's a party scene, and I'm almost 40, so it may not be for me. Also, we had higher expectations of the food. Nothing really blew us away.
Service was ok and the food wasn't as good as it looks online. Where's the seasoning? I thought this was a Mexican restaurant. If you're a tall patron, ask for a table in the middle or without the over head lights. Bumped my head twice. Very annoying feature. It's your average upper east side location. Nothing to make reservations for, if you know what I mean. I won't be going back, but to each his/her own. (BLAH)
I am a big fan of Maya! Their happy hour deal is one of the best in the city, and their margaritas are absolutely delicious. The food menu is extensive and authentic, too. There are so many reasons to go: happy hour, dinner, brunch...Maya does each of them well. I'm grateful it's in my neighborhood!
The food and drinks were fine, although the menu is pretty small. The service and ambience were also fine. The problem is noise. The dining area is in the back, and when I asked the hostess to give us a quiet table, she very kindly led me to one as far back as possible. But the entire front is a bar and lounge, which was packed while we were there and produced a very high level of noise that carried all the way to the back of the dining area. So, although other diners were talking quietly, it was difficult to converse because of the noise
Food was good (pork a little on the dry side). Rock shrimp appetizer delicious. Definitely on upscale side (no "free" chips/salsa appetizer) but that did not carry through with the fact that we were celebrating my husband's birthday--no mention, no token sweet with candle--as in other upscale settings (I noted birthday in reservation). That was a bit disappointing. But waiter was pleasant and overall good experience .
My husband and I have dined at Maya for many years now. The food never ceases to delight us. The flavors are fantastic! I got the tortilla chicken soup and steak tacos. Both were superb! My husband ordered the Quesadilla Surtida (corn masa with Oaxa cheese and sauces) and shrimp and crab enchiladas. We also enjoy the chips and salsa. You can also order guacamole and salsa along with chips if you like. The best part of the meal are the frozen margaritas!!!! You must try this restaurant. What a gem!
I love Maya! Great service, great food and some of the best red wine sangria we have ever had. We were almost tempted to go back a second night. We made reservations for 7 PM but arrived early and they were more than happy to accommodate. Save room for the donuts!!!
Was not pleased with the service at all. Our waiter hardly came over to our table to check on our drink, food or see if we needed anything additional. We had to repeatedly chase down the bussers to ask our waiter to come back over. He was way more interested in pleasing the larger group tables.
Food was great, my party arrived about 15 min late i told the manager this in person she insisted that i sit down without party. Assured me that the 2 hr time window wont start until i party arrives. Time started the second i sat down alone. There was no last call for my table. 30 min went by and the waiter was attending to larger parties and had not refilled my glass or took any orders.
The worst taco I ever had in my life. I cant believe they are serving this taco smoked brisket topped with a dry avocado on top. Drink was decent. Like the other sister restaurant Zenga the service is horrible when I asked for manager at Zenga the server said he was busy. They don't care OR JUST HIRE MANAGEMENT that have no clue what amazing service is, just another restaurant with bad management. But dam the worst taco in the world goes to Maya UES. what the hell is that. I would love for head chef and all staff just taste this taco and really take a look at it. These neighborhood kids eat anything with some flavor since they are use to salt and peeper and pizza so by default it does well and great for them. But when someone like me walks in beware.
Went for brunch. Food was mediocre. Every dish was covered in sauce so even items that were meant to be crispy were mush. Service was horrible. Everything at brunch is family style - which we were excited about. However, our server didn't write anything down and we received dishes we didn't order and also did not receive certain dishes at all. We also had to hunt our server down for drinks - and when we did find him he would forget to bring them over. Won't be going back.
Had a really great Sunday Brunch with my friend visiting from Amsterdam! Live crowd and lots of parties going on! it was a real fun atmosphere. waitress was super attentive and made sure our glasses were never empty. it was tapas style so they just brought out a bunch of small tasting plates. def recommend for fun party get together!
