Maya Del Sol Ratings and Reviews
A bit underwhelmed tonight, still good but not as great as normal. Margarita was flavorless- no tartness or sweetness. Queso with shrimp and chorizo was a winner. Corn tamales are our go to item, always great Deep fried fish taco were oily. Potato leek soup nailed it with right mix of flavor, temperature and spice. Duck tacos were okay. Will be back, but hoping for the skate special again!
I’ve been to Maya Del Sol before, and the food is always spectacular! The service is very good, and while the ambiance is usually friendly and fun, it was ruined this last visit by a table behind us who, as they became increasingly drunk, became increasingly loud while discussing bigoted views against transgendered people. It made me and my partner so angry that we considered confronting the other party, but did not want to cause a scene in front of my elderly parents- it was my mother’s birthday dinner.
I wish the restaurant manager or staff would have addressed the issue so that the hate speech would not have disturbed the other patrons.
I will certainly dine at Maya Del Sol again, but will not hold my tongue again regardless of my dinner guests.
We have been to Maya del Sol in the past and have been happy. However, this time we decided to try the pork belly tacos and we were very disappointed. It was basically a thick, slimy slab of fat. We have had pork belly tacos at other venues and they did not look like this. The ceviche, fish tacos, a vegetarian enchiladas were very good.
The food and service were excellent. My disappointment was in the fact that when I booked the reservation and again on a confirmation call, I stated that we were celebrating our niece ‘s recent marriage. Complimentary Champagne or dessert for the newlyweds would have been nice.
I love Maya and have been there many times for dinner, but this was my first brunch. As always, they didn't disappoint. I had the Maya version of biscuits with sausage gravy. Spicy gravy over jalapeno biscuits - amazing.
The service, the food, and the friendly knowledgable servers add to the experience.
Make it a point to visit Maya - it will be a good day.
I find myself only writing reviews when a place moves me to a point that it deserve a narrative...Maya Del Sol is absolutely this place. This is the 2nd time I've come here, and to say that this is the creme de la creme is an understatement. John (owner) and his staff are phenomenal (a special thanks to Mike), and makes you feel genuinely appreciated . Now the food/drinks: this place makes the BEST Mojitos I've ever had, and it should be a crime against humanity if you come here and don't enjoy one. The blackened fish tacos were prepared perfectly, & the Bistec a la Parilla was exceptionally cooked (medium-rare), succulent, and perfectly seasoned. If you are ANYWHERE near Oak Park, I emplore you to treat your taste buds to Maya Del Sol. A++
To start, the patio is wonderful (and is a first come, first serve basis even with a reservation) so I would recommend sitting outside if possible. The cocktails were great: our table had margaritas and mango mojitos and both were delicious. I am vegetarian, and while there are not a lot of veggie options the enchiladas were wonderful and very different from your run-of-the-mill Spanish fare.
I made a reservation for 7:15PM for my fiance's birthday. At 7:15, we arrived, and we waited for the hostess to come to the front desk. She arrived and didn't ask about a reservation, she just got two menus and then asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We elected to sit outside. We walked around back and were told by the young gentleman there that there were no free tables and we'd have to wait. Fine, not a big deal, I don't know how reservations with Open Table work but I can't imagine you could reserve a table for two both inside and outside, so I didn't have any problem with it. We went to the bar. Bartender was great. Drinks were great. The kid manning the back patio area completely disappeared, and during the next hour we were forgotten. All the while, there were at least two available tables. I kept looking for the kid but he was nowhere to be found and there was no host(ess) replacing him. The bartender then asked if we were waiting for a table, and I said yes, but I didn't know where the host was, and he quickly called over one of the waiters and we were offered to choose one of the two tables that had been free the whole time.
It wasn't the end of the world. I wasn't really upset about it, I just expected better service than that. The waiter and bartender were excellent. The bus service was excellent. The food was excellent. But it was my fiance's birthday, I communicated that in my Open Table reservation, and we were completely forgotten by that kid and waited an hour to get seating when there were very clearly two tables available the entire time. I will go back, because I think this was just a freak occurrence, but it did impact my rating.
