Maya Del Sol Ratings and Reviews
This was a lovely restaurant in downtown Oak Park. Parking in the area was no problem. We had made a reservation for a Saturday evening at 7pm, but it wasn't really necessary as there was plenty of indoor seating. The outdoor seating, however, had a long wait, which was disappointing as it was a beautiful night, and I didn't realize you couldn't reserve outside. The food was outstanding (I had vegetarian enchiladas that were filling as well as delicious). I was also delighted that they could make a decent "mocktail" if asked. Altogether a wonderful find.
I love Maya del Sol, and this occasion was no different. However, be warned that you cannot reserve a table in the outdoor patio through OpenTable. Seating there is first come, first serve. I don't know if OpenTable had a disclaimer. If it did, I did not see it.
Been here before with a big group and had a good experience so we returned for a date night. Waited at the outdoor bar for a table. Bartender was great and I enjoyed the nonalcoholic limeade. Apparently the hostess felt badly we had to wait so long for a table and she and the manager both apologized. We didn't really care about the wait but the service was very attentive thereafter. I ordered the carne asada, medium rare, it turned out medium, as did my husband's filet. They were still really good. Sangria was excellent. This place is rated #1 for a reason. We'll be back next time we're in town.
I made reservations and requested outdoor seating. Once arriving, I was told that outside seating was first come. It would've been nice to have been notified of that at the time I made the reservation.
The food is very expensive for the quality and the amount. I was not overly impressed with either the fish tacos or the pork shoulder entree, I would say average at best.
I would recommend going for drinks and apps and sitting outside near the fire pit if weather permits.
People often say that Maya Del Sol is one of the best restaurants in the western suburbs, and it is. But it is truly one of the best Latino fusion restaurants in all of Chicagoland. And it has the most beautiful outdoor dining area for miles around. The food and service are incredible. We can't recommend this place emit!
A great time was had by all celebrating a birthday at Maya Del Sol! The margarita and special cocktail with muddled ginger were great. All of our food was so good we'd order it again. The tamales were very fresh tasting and somewhat lighter than most I've had. The plantain appetizer with shredded meat was both sweet and savory. A yummy delight. I had a salmon entree, which was outstanding and a generous portion, so I had some to take home. The tres leche cake was oozing with the leches; sweet and delicious. A good rendition of this Latin classic. If your anywhere near Oak Park and are looking for a great place for food and an attractive al fresco dining experience where you are seated in an outdoor garden space, I highly recommend Maya Del Sol.
My friends and I met there for dinner because we heard good things about the food. We were seated by the window. A few flies roamed the window (eww). Our server seemed socially awkward and did not provide us with a welcome to the restaurant or explain the menu. I had a specialty drink with mango. It was ok. I had the fish tacos (average). One friend ordered the carne asade which she enjoyed and the other friend had some sort of stewed beef. We did not order dessert. The atmosphere just wasn't what it was hyped up to be. I was disappointed. Maybe it was an off day.
Have been to this restaurant before, but the noise level this time was over the top. We were with another couple and could hardy hear ourselves talk. We should have been moved outside or to a corner of the restaurant.
Some items were overly expensive. For example $7.00 for a Arnold Palmer (lemonade and ginger ale--was not offered refills). 10.00 for a beer. The taco dinner was very delicious but the tacos were very small.
We were a quick visit in/out pre-Concert. John (manager) made us feel welcome and right at home! We were made to feel like regulars, despite this being our first visit. Our server Dori was attentive, met our time constraints and served with a smile and warm welcome. Steak tacos were fantastic! Wish we Had time for Sangria or a margherita as many we being served! Definitely worth another visit, particularly on the garden patio on a warm summer day/night! We'll be back!
The servers were alternative and informed, the lamb chops done perfectly where generous in size with a great seasoning. Would have like more veggies or starch with the cops. The duck breast was tender and juicy but the rest of this plate not season interstingly. Duck fat is yummy but needs a strong companion. We had a delightful dinner for four. Again.
We had a delicious meal, but the service was slow and our server only visited us during absolutely necessary intervals - he took 20 minutes to greet us and take drink orders, we were there for 45 minutes before we placed our dinner orders, and waited 20 minutes for our credit cards to be returned to us when paying the check. He never checked on us to see how we were doing.
Thoroughly enjoyed everything. The corn tamale with mole sauce, had the sweetness of fresh sweet corn within the corn masa topped with mole cause as a starter. Both of us opted for fish, which were cooked to perfect and plated artistically. The Skatefish had Bok Choy and Mushrooms with a mole sauce, which was a perfect blend of flavors. There was wonderful selection of vegetarian entrees, which were creatively prepared. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert BUT they looked awesome. Going back again next week, cannot wait to try other items on the menu.
Myself and my date have been here before but this occasion was especially enjoyable.
The Carne Asada was as good as I've ever had. My girls Salmon was "off the chizzain" (chain).
We will make this one of our regular stops for a long time to come. Please don't change.
First, the service was great and really friendly. Everyone was fantastic and helpful. The menu, though having interesting items from South American and Latin influences, was all over the place. There was even a cheeseburger in there somewhere - which seemed out of place. I had the duck and it was delicious but for the money was underproportioned. I took into consideration this is in downtown Oak Park. But it seemed disingenuine in the portion size. Margaritas were good (not amazing) and small (juice glass) for the price point asked for.
