MAX's Wine Dive San Antonio - East Basse Rd Ratings and Reviews
Don't think that because you have a reservation that you will be seated on time. Reservation at 1130, seating around 1145. Took 30 minutes to order and when waiter was told we needed to be out of there for a show NLT 1315 (1:15pm), he looked panicked. I'm not sure if they were short on wait staff, cook staff or if they were opearting under normal circumstances, but we didn't get our food until 1245. Oh wait, the first person at our table received their food at 1245 and the last person received their food about 7 minutes later. The waiter was less than attentive, and he couldn't get our checks right. As a former food server, I wrote orders down to ensure they were correct...and I referred to those notes when running checks. At least most of us liked their food, although the donuts were overly fried (almost looked burnt). The jalapeno grits were great! Applewood bacon was delicious, and fried chicken was yummy. If your plan is to sit around over brunch/lunch and visit for a couple of hours, Max's is fine, but don't go to Max's if you are on a schedule; you can't get in and out quickly.....
One word...outstanding. Outstanding service and out of this world food. Everything on the menu is outstanding. I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed ourselves. Our waiter Anthony was great. He was very friendly helpful and attentive. Wonderful place for Sunday brunch.
NYD brunch. Seated immediately and the service was excellent. I gave it 4 stars for the food because I ordered a chicken tender salad and my tenders were dark meat. If the description had told me it was thigh meat I would have ordered something different. The other 7 in our party were very happy with their food. Great place and will probably go back if in San Antonio again.
Max’s is a great place for food, drinks and fun! We frequently go to Max’s because it is consistent in its food quality, service and ambience. A restaurant for couples or groups to enjoy with a knowledge staff serving comfort food with a Texas twist!
Great spot. Good food with a very creative menu. Excellent service from a very friendly staff. One of the best wine lists for a restaurant this size. The only downer was the wine pours appeared to be a bit stingy - taking away from the perceived value of “wine bar”. Definitely still worth the visit.
My husband and I enjoyed the Nacho Mama oyster starter. It has just the right amount of spice and briny taste of the oysters. His pork shank was tender and huge! My chicken was crunchy and moist. Our energetic server did her best to balance her time among her tables.
Love this place in located in Alamo Heights (Quarry District). It's a Wine Dive Bar and everything is fantastic about it from the decor, food, and great service. Ryan and Alexis were so extremely personable as were other employees! Must try the Fried Brussels Sprouts with mustard crema, smoked pork belly, and pickled fennel! They tasted amazing as was their famous Fried Chicken too! I wish I could come here every night! My favorite place in San Antonio!
We sat outside and enjoyed some delicious food. Samantha, our server, was sweet and attentive. The only downside was the garbage smell that intermittently introduced itself throughout the meal. Not sure where it came from, but it’d be nice to have this remedied to make the outdoor eating experience more enjoyable.
Over all the good was good but our waiter was rude at times we made a request for over easy eggs and he got mad that he had to take it back because they came out wrong. I requested prosecco and got a brut not I didn't make a big deal about it since it was not presented to me but rather my wife and she said it was fine but it's little things like that, just made the service fair now I am sure it's not always like this but of course as a restaurant you are only as good as your last service. Over all I would come back.
The food, attention to detail and customer service was top notch. We had such a good time and really enjoyed talking to the host, waitress and chef. My friends wanted me to try the Oysters Rockefeller since I've never had them and now I'm hooked. The Brussel Sprouts and ham were delicious also. One of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time.
After being greeted promptly my girlfriend and I were seated at a nice clean table. The manager checked on us and the waitstaff was quite attentive. Dinner was served within a reasonable amount of time and was well prepared. The wine selection was good but quite expensive for the labels being offered. The food was a tad too highly priced as well. A hamburger and a French fry based appetizer with 2 glasses of Australian wine came to 75 dollars with a tip. This just seemed a bit more than the value that we perceived. The service made up for the pricing but not enough to repeat our visit. Overall this was a very positive dining experience and if you don’t mind spending more than 70 dollars for the meal I described try it out!
The service was concise and efficient. He was a bit gruff, but it was kind of his charm. We sent him away twice when he wanted to take our order, and then there was a time lag before he got back to us, but that was our own doing. The food was fantastic. The one drawback was that the music (good selection of upbeat and funk) was almost too loud for conversation...and talking is what you want to do at Sunday Brunch.
My friends and I went for Sunday brunch (4 people). We were seated timely. Greeted by our server timely. I ordered a "Virgin" Mary, he didn't know what that was. My friend ordered a Mimosa. He mixed those up. Then one of our orders was messed up, not once but twice. They fixed it. However, since the food is made to order, it is slow leaving the kitchen. This means my friend sat there while we were eating waiting for her food. Then it was wrong again, with no compensation on the check for the mix up, or inconvenience.
I had the fried egg sandwich, Yummo!!! 2 others had the salmon Benedict and said it was good. My friend whose plate was wrong twice, had the fried chicken Benedict. She said the chicken was good and the biscuit was great.
Of the 4 of us, I was the only one who said they would return, and it wasnt the food that caused it. It was the errors.
