Pretty average. Was expecting a bit more. The chicken salad with "champagne" dressing was underwhelming. Salad was barely dressed and lacked flavor. Wife's burger was very tasty but a pit pricey.
Food is good with decent portions for the price. Service was not amazing, but luckily we weren’t in a rush to be anywhere.
We went for Easter Brunch. We had reservations and were seated right away. The restaurant was not crowded. The service was horrible. It was very slow (waited over an hour for food). The food was cold when it arrived and the waffles were burnt. Others in the group (note: there were only three of us) ordered their eggs hard fried and they were poached. One person's second order still came out under cooked. Rather than send it back, she elected to eat around it. The manager (I believe) tried to help, but could not overcome the shortcomings.
I expected so much more from this place based on the referrals I received before visiting San Antonio.
It took an hour for the manager to final come to our table and tell us we were trumped by a catering order. Did get our meals comp; however, it was still bad. Worst fried chicken we ever had. Never again!!!
The food is incredible: was a little slow out, but the restaurant was PACKED, and the food was 100% worth the wait. The service was incredible. Amazing experience!
As always Sunday Brunch was wonderful. Great food and great service.
Food was okay. Nothing on the menu that wows you. Drinks were probably the best thing about the whole experience. Food is very over priced.
The food and service were outstanding. The shrimp and grits was the best I have had outside Charleston S.C.
The restaurant overall was nice. However, having experienced excellent service at different locations, I was disappointed with the service. First, we made reservations and were placed at a table that was next to the kitchen/bathroom. Then when we requested a different table the one they moved us to was broken, where both tables had to have paper placed under the legs to keep them stable. What ultimately made this dining experience subpar, was the fact that once we placed our order it was more than 30 minutes before the order came out. The table next to us was seated more than 20 minutes after we ordered but received their order within five minutes of us receiving our order. Then to add insult to injury, when there were issues with our order they half-@$’ed correcting the order. Needless to say, I was disappointed in my experience at this restaurant. I should have chosen elsewhere to have my bday brunch.
Went for my best friends birthday brunch. We had kids with us for a total of 7. Staff was accommodating, friendly, and helpful! Food was very delicious! We had a great time!!
We used to visit Max's for brunch quite frequently, but hadn't been in a while (we all live near IH-10 and don't get over to the Quarry very often). I had seen a photo from a San Antonio-based food blogger on instagram of a new menu item at Max's: a southern take on eggs-benedict with a southern biscuit, fried chicken, honey butter, and jalapeno gravy. The eggs were severely overdone - absolutely no yolk ran out - which made the biscuits feel pretty dry. I also think that they left off the honey butter... or it was just undetectable.
We had a reservation at 11:00 - most of us showed up early, but the rest were running way behind. The host told us that they'd prefer to seat the complete party, so we decided to wait outside for the rest of the group. I think that this upset the server. After sitting, it took at least 10 minutes for the server to greet us. When he did, it was just to tell us that he would return after taking a neighboring table's order. Another 10 minutes later, we had drinks ordered. It seemed like anytime the server left our table, it was at least 10 minutes before he ever returned. He took a long time to bring our checks to the table, return for payment, and then come back after paying out our checks. There is nothing more frustrating than waiting for the server to come back with your credit cards - we were very ready to leave at this point.
As much as we used to love coming here for brunch or dinner, I do not think that we will be back soon.
The food was good. The service was very slow and all our food wasn’t brought out at the same time. We even got parts of our meal in spurts. Far from the best restaurant I’ve ever gone to and probably wouldn’t go back when visiting Austin again.
The food was delicious. Just that was not staffed for the night an waited awhile hat to order a drink and get little things. So it was difficult to get the attention of a staff member.
Great food and service
We were unhappy with our experience as they were having issues with their sound systems and it would come on very loud at intermittent times. We almost left before they took our order and again while waiting I. Our dessert. We probably won’t go back.
Our normal Sunday Brunch is here! And always will be! The food the service everything is always on point!
First time going here and I was not disappointed. You didn't necessarily need to make a reservation when I went for 10am Saturday brunch, but I'd recommend it for a large group.
King cake French toast was the best!
Always good food, but they need to add additional menu items. Service was very slow, luckily we weren't in a hurry.
Amazing every single time! We love coming back as often as we can!
I had to try the fried chicken paired with champagne - and it did not disappoint. Pulled pork stuffed pepper appetizer was also good, and the smoked collard greens were excellent (had some "kick" too)
We were seated on the patio and the ambience was very nice. Staff was pleasant. Food was just okay. There were 4 in our party and no one was impressed. Service was great. This is the perfect place to settle for drinks with friends, but I’d consider dinner elsewhere.
Our server knew his wines. When the one we selected was not available, he recommended a comparable bottle (actually LESS expensive than our original order) and it was outstanding!
Awesome! Food was amazing, service was great!
Wine options were good, service was awful. My wife used to go frequently when she lived near by and said over two years ago she never had bad service.
Good experience. Good food. Nice wine selection.
I was definitely satisfied with the choice I made for Valentine's Day. I really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and the music was perfect! I will definitely go back.
The food was amazing. I will definitely be going back. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. A great experience overall.
We came a lot earlier than our reservation but was seated right away anyway.😃.
Service was excellent! Food was great!
It would have been perfect if they have my favorite
wine (Caymus 2014),. I ordered a couple of the
happy hour list and was happy to find the pino.noir
Max's is a regular, favorite spot for us...great food, great service and always consistent. The staff is always friendly and fun! We love Max's!
We love MAX’s.....Saturday dinner was fried chicken, mashed potatoes and greens. it was fabulous. The Brussel sprouts appetizer were amazing. We had a bottle of prosecco and we shared a half and half dessert. The bread pudding was the best I’ve ever had. The floor manager did a great job, he was really attentive to the customers.
Great place to have a romantic dinner or to meet friends and enjoy a great atmosphere.
Always a great time at Max’s. Wonderful food. Service is a little slow. Was disappointed after returning home to find out that Max’s had reported to Open Table that we were “no shows” after checking in with the host.
I love this place so much that I went twice for my birthday this year. This is my work’s go to spot for lunch!
Excellent fried chicken.
Chicken was greasy
Always good wine and the best fried chicken in the city
The restaurant smelled so dirty, we decided to sit outside. We ordered, then saw our waiter walking around outside drinking a beer. 40 minutes later, we had no food. When I followed up, he said he “didn’t hear me order.” When he finally brought the appetizer, he acted like we were impatient peons instead of merely apologizing that he forgot to place our order. When the manager came, he reiterated that the waiter “didn’t hear our order” without an apology for an appetizer that took almost an hour to arrive. It’s not a big deal to forget an order (maybe use a notebook if you have a short memory?), but a simple apology is 400 x better than gaslighting. Unpleasant experience; will not return.
Love the new menu options. Service is ALWAYS fabulous and the food is spot on each and every time. One of our favorite spots for brunch and get togethers with friends. Great beer and wine selections.
Great food but for the life of me don't understand why it takes 45 minutes to prepare chicken. That is unless they wait to kill the chicken after you order.
