Great Brunch!! Cool atmosphere and wonderful food!! Fried chicken is the way to go!
First time in Austin, enjoyed the variety of the menu, we had an early dinner and enjoyed the food and service.
The food was fantastic, and the happy hour wine made it a good value. I also loved the jukebox. A nice place to grab a bite with friends or impress a date.
Triple O’s- Overpriced Overcooked Overrated! Stopped in on a whim, should have known better when it was the only restaurant downtown on a Friday night that had openings.
Excellent service at a the bar. Selected a fine Bottle of Melba’s and veal Ossetia buck special for dinner. Lovely
Our server, Benji, was awesome. He made recommendations on substitutions that fit my dietary restrictions, made great recommendations on drinks, and provided excellent service. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. The fried chicken is DELISH!
We were in town for Texas Relays. Not knowing where to go, we opted for the comfort food of Max’s since we enjoy the one in Houston. It was our 14 year old’s first time. She LOVED the fried chicken. Thank you for the consistency in awesome food and service!
Really nice staff and good food!! Recommended!!
We've been patronizing Max's since it opened. This was the very worst service we have had. We ordered a bottle of champagne to enjoy with dinner. The waiter was absolutely awful. Maybe he had too many tables, maybe it was a bad night, but the service was very bad......and to boot, our table was next to the hostess who saw everything that was happening and didn't bother to help the poor guy. After waiting 20 minutes since finishing the appetizer and he still hadn't taken our dinner order, we ended up corking the bottle of champagne and leaving. Yeah, it was that bad. This was post-SXSW and they weren't even that busy. I don't know what the problem was, but I don't know if we will go back.
Picked MAX’s for a date night after looking at reviews online; the food, service, and wine did not disappoint. Would drive the hour for another date night or family outing here. We plan to try their brunch in the future.
Hostess, waiter, and food were excellent. A little pricey for chicken and mashed potatoes, but it was still good food.
Get. The. Pork Chop!! Amazing!! Big portions - may want to share. Also a great selection of wines by the glass many at reasonable price ranges.
The Gluten free fried chix was phenomenal! Couldn't tell any difference.
The service and food were wonderful! From the hostess, to our waitress, to the sous chef, to my chuchen - great great great!
Good food, welcoming staff, fun place - and they had scarlet ibis rum!
We loved our waiter: he was amazing at explaining every dish in a delicious way! You would get hungry just listening to him hehe delicious food for a bar! Great wine collection, nice atmosphere!
I've been to Max's a few times and while the wine selection remains as great as ever, the quality of the food is beginning to suffer in relation to the price. And the addition of sugar/sweetness to many of the dishes, especially when not warned (the schnitzel is an example), is extremely unpleasant.
Food was great. Such a unique menu. Ambiance is fun, and service was very good. It was also SXSW weekend and Max's Wine Dive still maintained great food and service. will definitely go again.
At first the my tried to sit us at a table right next to an exit door, but when we asked for a different option they accommodated us with no issues. Despite the fact that SX madness was all around us, Max’s felt warm and calm. It was a wonderful experience as usual!
Excellent food and service. Benji was FANTASTIC!! If you are in Austin, definitely add this to your list.
Server and food were fantastic. Catered to our Gluten Free requirement too.
Being from southeast Louisiana, it’s hard to impress me with southern food - but the grits here are for sure in my top 3! Bravo to the chef!
Sunday brunch-great atmosphere and really good food. The sweet potato donuts are a must along with a mimosa!
The best fried chicken you will ever eat.....and gluten free! Collard greens are addictive.
First time back in several years and probably should have made it a few more. Red wine selections were room temperature and simply too warm. Our waiter was friendly but would inexplicably disappear— almost mid sentence — during some quick tastes of wine to settle on one and then reappear 5 min later. (The restaurant was not busy.) Took about 15 min to get our first glass of wine. Food was good to very good. My colleague got a Manhattan on his second round — $22 vs the same one at the JW Marriott for $15. Perhaps just a bad night on the service front but I’ll delay a return to Max’s.
Great food. Awesome service
Food was fantastic! Husband had the fired chicken and I had the schnitzel. Both were beyond words good! Staff was fun and fabulous!
Had a nice meal. Cocktails were perfect. Felt prices a bit high. No cappuccino or light dessert options. Server was excellent,
Spent 3.5 hours there. So yeah it was good.
Benjamin was terrific. Great food. Chicken —you have to try-so good!
I eated too much chicken
Seated promptly, amazing food. We (two of us) started off with the cheese board which was absolutely delicious and they were able to make it gluten-free. We also shared the gluten free fried chicken, which was AMAZING. I haven't been able to eat fried chicken for so long due to gluten sensitivity, so this was definitely special.
However, it was a lot louder than expected. We often had to speak up to even be heard, and the acoustics in the dining area were very echo-y. Servers were polite but could have been more attentive, hence the 4 stars overall. Would recommend for friends getting together, but maybe not for a romantic date due to the ambiance.
Meet up with friends...turned out great!
The food was amazing. Especially the chili it was to die for. Best chili I have ever had.
The food is ok, but could be better. If you have no option, go there.
Chicken was great!
I've been a patron of MWD for years, but in realizing that it had been over 18 months since my last visit, I was reminded why we stopped going: For a Thursday night, the restaurant was slow. One bartender who was kind enough to let us try a few wines but not really in tune with what we were requesting as far as flavor profile...and occasionally he was a little curt. The wine prices here are outrageous and the selection of "by the glass" just isn't that great. The new look of the "bar" for serving an average/cheap liquor selection looks terrible and has really brought the overall feel of the place (and open kitchen) down a notch. Chili (nearly $16 for a bowl) was exceptionally salty but Gluten-Free fried chicken ($5 for a breast) was pretty amazing as always. Our opinion holds as before: MWD just isn't worth the visit (nor the money spent) anymore.
Awesome awesome awesome!!
Max’s never disappoints!!
