Spent 3.5 hours there. So yeah it was good.
Benjamin was terrific. Great food. Chicken —you have to try-so good!
I eated too much chicken
Seated promptly, amazing food. We (two of us) started off with the cheese board which was absolutely delicious and they were able to make it gluten-free. We also shared the gluten free fried chicken, which was AMAZING. I haven't been able to eat fried chicken for so long due to gluten sensitivity, so this was definitely special.
However, it was a lot louder than expected. We often had to speak up to even be heard, and the acoustics in the dining area were very echo-y. Servers were polite but could have been more attentive, hence the 4 stars overall. Would recommend for friends getting together, but maybe not for a romantic date due to the ambiance.
Meet up with friends...turned out great!
The food was amazing. Especially the chili it was to die for. Best chili I have ever had.
The food is ok, but could be better. If you have no option, go there.
Chicken was great!
I've been a patron of MWD for years, but in realizing that it had been over 18 months since my last visit, I was reminded why we stopped going: For a Thursday night, the restaurant was slow. One bartender who was kind enough to let us try a few wines but not really in tune with what we were requesting as far as flavor profile...and occasionally he was a little curt. The wine prices here are outrageous and the selection of "by the glass" just isn't that great. The new look of the "bar" for serving an average/cheap liquor selection looks terrible and has really brought the overall feel of the place (and open kitchen) down a notch. Chili (nearly $16 for a bowl) was exceptionally salty but Gluten-Free fried chicken ($5 for a breast) was pretty amazing as always. Our opinion holds as before: MWD just isn't worth the visit (nor the money spent) anymore.
Awesome awesome awesome!!
Max’s never disappoints!!
The wait staff was very knowledgeable regarding the amount of wines available for tasting. Additionally, the food was amazing and I can not wait to go back; a must see in Austin!
a wonderful atmosphere to relax & enjoy the evening. great food and great service
Although the restaurant was not overly crowded, the service was very slow. 40 minutes after we ordered, we had to flag down our waitress to check on the status of our burger and salad. We were informed it was "almost ready". When it finally came about 10 minutes later, we were pleasantly surprised - the food was amazingly delicious and the portion sizes large. I wish we had been able to ask about dessert, but because of the delay we had to leave quickly after the main course to arrive on time for a theatre performance in Austin. If we return, we won't have made plans for anything afterwards.
Food is always amazing here, great brunch spot. Biscuits and gravy are the best and of course the fried chicken too.
Good location . Great food . Service was ok but disjointed and not personable . Was surprised at the wine prices and not as an extensive list as I was expecting for a restaurant with wine in the name . Also surprised at the limited selection of wine by glass . Most had to be bottle purchased .
Was there on an early Sunday evening so it was not crowded. The food was excellent. Our waiter was very nice and appropriately attentive. The wine list was great. Nice casual place that on Sunday evening is quiet.
Really great meal. We started with two appetizers that were done to perfection. What can I say about the fried chicken but it is to die for. Let’s not forget the wine selection, if you want to try a place that not only has a good selection by the bottle or the glass you have to try MAX’s. Our server Parker was super knowledgeable about the different wines and made some great suggestions
Yummy good and great atmosphere! Would definitely recommend it!
I may try this place again. Went for Sunday brunch. Food had good flavor BUT was cold when we got it. My eggs/chicken/biscuit were cold on top and mildly warm at the bottom. Grits were only warm deeper into the serving dish. Others had pancakes and they were hot. So, hard to give this one all thumbs up. Good local sourcing of food.
They put us at a table next to the door and it was freezing. I showed up 10 minutes before and they said they didn’t have my table and it wouldn’t be ready for a while. We finally demanded a table where we weren’t getting blasts of frozen air and half our order showed up 20 minutes later. Been there a lot over the years I will not be going back
Meeting out for wine and snacks. No complaints.
We loved this place so much we visited twice in one weekend. The first visit was Friday night. Great wine options and I was thrilled with the Gluten Friendly choices. The Brussel Sprouts were amazing. Our second visit was for a glass of wine and cheese later on Sunday afternoon. And again, it did not disappoint.
We were at Max's mid-afternoon on a weekday. It was for a friend's birthday. The service was exemplary, as was the food. We started with the fried oysters. They were perfect! Then we had the fried chicken, which I believe is the best in Austin.
All around - just super!
We had a great time, we were a party of 8 and wish we could have had a larger table, but our reservation overlapped with a party of 20 so we were a little squished. The food was excellent, the service was good and a fun brunch with friends was had.
This is the second time we have been there for Sunday Brunch and the food is incredible. We live in Georgetown and we drive here for Brunch. Have the egg sandwich it is awesome.
Great brunch menu. Great location, walking distance from hotel.
We had a last minute large work dinner with five separate kinds of allergies and all ate delicious safe food served by kind and helpful staff. Thanks Max’s!
Went for a friends birthday. The brunch is AMAZING, also great mimosas at a great price. Food was unlike any other restaurant and made me so much loveeeee...
