MAX's Wine Dive Austin - San Jacinto Blvd. Ratings and Reviews
This was my first visit to MWD . I used to work at the Hilton Downtown Austin and I would send guests here all the time and they'd return to thank me for the suggestion. After trying their signature fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and greens I'd definitely continue to recommend MAX's to hungry patrons. On my next visit I'm trying the Fried Egg Sandwich!
Came here for brunch with my husband. We heard that their chicken and waffles are great! We split a portion of Southern chicken and waffles (with collared greens and potatoes) and just added an additional piece of chicken which was plenty for us and it was soooo yummy!
Service was terrible. It took 3 hours for dinner.
We had made a reservation through Open Table and had confirmation. Hostess acted like she didn’t have anything. Made us feel uncomfortable and then sat us at a not so good table, where waited for almost 15 minutes to even acknowledge us
Won’t be returning
Was so disappointed. We have gone to Sunday brunch several times and loved it. This time the menu was changed the portions were smaller and the prices were higher. Instead of getting chicken and waffles we got 3 wings and a waffle for $18.75. And the Mimosas went up in price.
The food was great, but they have priced me out.
The waitress we had was fantastic.
So l guess if you don’t care about prices it a good place to go.
I suggested to a group of friends that we make a reservation at Max's after this years Texas Conference for Women. We arrived about 20 minutes early so we went to the bar for a drink while we waited for our table. Both my friend and I asked the bartender/waiter for 1) a glass of merlot 2) and a glass of California red (perhaps a cab). Although the waiter was nice he was busy and rushed and asked us no further questions and said "I have something for you". and went off. He came back with the wine and a bill for $41. He took it upon himself to select a $19 glass of merlot and a $20 glass of a Cal cab. I have been to MANY restaurants in Austin that are much nicer, more expensive, etc. (Vince Young Steakhouse for example) where when suggesting a wine (even by the glass) they give you ALL of the information. That does not take long and is better than slopping down and overpriced glass of wine to the customer. We did not drink the wine (over even sample... the bartender/waiter took off the second he set the glasses down) The hostess was gracious and did not require us to pay for the wine and we proceeded to meet the remainder of our party at our table for dinner. My friend and I wanted to order a different glass of wine when seated. (Something more in the $12 range per glass) and we tried to explain to our waitress. He condescending response was not appreciated. She said, and I quote..."You have to be specific." Gosh... I thought I was the customer? I certainly did not feel that way. I will say that the food was good. (steak caprese salad, fried chicken salad with champagne dressing, grilled cheese w/tomato soup and chips) That being said... good service is always paramount and our group did not get the type of service I have experienced in the past at Max's. I am not normally as harsh as this on reviews but I was that disappointed and I probably won't ever go back.
The restaurant was able to squeeze our large group in without much notice and as always, the menu did not fail and the drinks were excellent. I brought my friends from Canada and they were impressed. They didn't know what to do with fried chicken before noon but they tried it.
I was waited on twice the entire hour I waited for my food. The coffee cup had lipstick stains on it and the cups were not clean! I was extremely disappointed as I waited for over an hour to be helped and to receive my food. I decided to leave and tell the manager what happened and she gladly took care of our bill.
There were 4 people working at this restaurant during a weekday lunch. A host, a waiter and 2 cooks. It took FOREVER to get our food and we finally had to get up and find the waiter to give him our credit card so we could get back to work. The food took almost an hour to come and the waiter disappeared. Max's needs to close if this is the best they can do during lunch in the business district. I made the reservation and was embarrassed at how slow the service was.
The food was not impressive. Sent back the blue cheese dip because there was no blue cheese in it at all. The waiter was terribly slow and uninterested. It took 30 minutes for our cocktails to arrive. What a waste of time! Definitely not going back here ever.
We come to Max's all the time. The food is always great. My issue is service/wait time. I've been a waiter for years in the past. I understand all sort of delays. What I don't understand is waiting almost 50 minutes to get our food order with our waiter ghosting us. Any number of things can happen. I get that. What I don't get is zero communication from wait staff or managers as to any delays. In addition, when raising issue with the delay, receiving a tone deaf response.
Love, love, loved this restaurant! We were just lucky to stumble upon it while flipping through Open Table for a restaurant. Waitstaff were friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgeable. The menu was just what we wanted coming off of all day meetings. I just wished we lived in Austin!
We go to Max's a few times a year as my kids love chicken and waffles. We had requested s low top table (kids) and they had us setup for a high top but quickly moved us when we asked for a low top. Food is great but maybe a little expensive per plate (however portions are huge so the cost is in line with quantity of food).
They change their chicken and waffles ever so often but always a great meal. I have been to both Houston locations and the Austin one is always one step above.
Didn't really give thought to my reservation as I was celebrating a special occasion. Service was amateur and didn't put much thought into our table. I may be s but more critic due to myself working in the hospitality industry. Food was good as well as drinks but felt a bit overpriced for similar resturants I have been to.
