Had a wonderful time
Service was beyond horrible. Waitress came to our table TWICE - once to take our order and bring waters and once to bring our check. She didn’t refill waters once and wasn’t even the one to bring out our food, nevertheless bother to check on us after we got it.
The fried chicken and service was excellent, wonderful environment.
Shrimp and grits was excellent. The broth definitely brought out the flavors. The fried chicken looked great but didn’t have time to wait 25 minutes. Maybe next time.
A great choice for gluten free options.
Wonderful service. Excellent champagne and fried chicken. It was amazingly fun and frivolous.
Our server was great made some really good suggestions
In Austin for business and SXSW stopped into Max’s for a quick lunch and ended up not wanting to leave. The Mac and cheese with truffle oil is a must get, and the fried chicken is fantastic with the greens. Service was outstanding as well as their wine selection.
Gluten free friendly and incredible service!
Great food, can't wait to go back!
Great food, great staff. Gluten free chicken and waffles are awesome.
Awesome service. Food was very good. Wine selection was epic. Great overall experience!
I highly recommend the chicken and waffles!
Food was very good as was the service. Our only complaint was that they were out of one of the dishes we wanted. The waiter said they started the night with just 3. Doesn't seem right for a busy Saturday night at a downtown hot spot.
We made a reservation this week to meet some friends downtown. Max’s has always been our go to special evening meeting place.
We arrived right on time at 7 o’clock. We were seated at the table in the middle of the room right by the front door. Worst table in the house. I asked if we could be moved someplace else and she said no. That was the end of that. No effort to even try! Terrible table and we had reservations? Other eoplencame in after us- plenty of pen tables and they did not have reservations- they were immediately seated in a better area?
We ordered a drink. Of course the wine was great. Always is. Then we looked at the menu. I ordered a burger as did my husband.
Our burgers arrived. So disappointed. The meat was overwhelmingly smoky but I can deal with that. Condiments were scarce. I finally found a pickle. The bun was hard and on the edge of being burned. The large pile of fries were not hot. Not cold but certainly not hot. Limp and grease laden.
I have to say I was very underwhelmed.
I have apologized to our friends several times for choosing Max’s. I was embarrassed not only about our “reserved” table but the food being so subpar. It’s not like it’s a cheap drive through- it is not a cheap evening out!
I thought I would write because nobody else seem to really care whether we enjoyed our food or our table. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. It wasn’t her fault. But really? So disappointed.
Hope this note helps service in the future. Thanks for listening.
My chicken was raw and the service was lacking. I will not be back.
Really enjoyed both sliders, with preference to bison. Brussels we're fantastic, though probably not super healthy being coated in general tsao sauce. Deviled eggs were so-so- could have been more flavorful.
A fun place with a large wine selection, wine flights, and a huge menu that covers all the bases--from small plates to mains. Atmosphere is trendy with a patio on Shoal Creek. Portion sizes are very generous, which makes this a great value.
It was not very pleasant to walk in and get hit with a bleach/mold/gross smell. Not very inviting. Not very appetizing. We only came here because we couldn't get reservations anywhere else for 8 people in the vicinity of the Erwin Center before going to see a show. The service was meh. The food was ok. Our waitress was not very pleasant, not helpful and did the bare minimum. We returned after the show to drop off and pick up cars, etc and stopped back in for a drink before dispersing. Again, a different waiter wasn't pleasant at all. We asked him to take a photo of our group and he seemed completely put out by the request. I won't be coming here again.
Very limited vegetarian options. The mac and cheese tasted like WINE! And I would have rather saved the money spent unfortunately.
Gluten free fried chicken was s let down when it was delivered with no breading Service could have been more attentive. After food was delivered server did check in again until we were done eating.
Great service!! Great food!! Highly recommend!!
I hate to write a bad review because its not a bad restaurant. We just had a less than stellar experience. Our server was great until it got busy. Then we were neglected. Our entree came out and not our salad. We asked about it and it was brought out after our meals were done with no apology. The table next to us had an issue and the manager came out apologizing to them several times while unprofessionally leaning on our table. I might try it again because it seems like they just need to work out some bugs.
Brunch on Sunday at Max’s was very good. Friendly and attentive wait staff, restaurant has a good vibe...we plan to go back.
My husband and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast Sunday morning. The egg skillet was very tasty and not too much food for me.
Waitress couldn’t get our orders straight. Food when received was delicious!
The burger is my favorite! When you drive from Dallas to get a burger, you know it’s good. One day, I hope to try the fried chicken because it looks amazing.
Good food. Service was a bit dry but overall okay. A bit noisy but understandable for dinner rush.
Enjoyed the food and drinks
Love the gluten free fried chicken! They have a pretty good selection of gluten free which is great for me because I have celiac disease.
We went for happy hour. Food and prices were amazing!!
We love Max's Wine Dive. Excellent food and service. We took our friends for the first time and they fell in love!
Food is delicious!! I love this spot. It's a tad loud for 'intimate' conversation - but great for groups!!
New favorite late night spot! They even contacted us by phone to let us know when they had last call for food so we wouldn't miss it! Great customer service!
So happy there is now GF chicken.
Max’s has been one of my favorite restaurants in Austin since it opened, but I love it even more now since I don’t live here anymore. My mother and I came in for a late night bite and I felt right back at home. We both had the fried chicken, which is something I haven’t treated myself to in a very long time. But holy moly, it was just as good as I remembered it to be! The chicken itself sans breading was seasoned to perfection and could’ve easily been eaten with no accoutrements. Now, onto the greens and mashed potatoes. WOW!! They were both unbelievable and fulfilled all the requirements of comfort food. The portions were generous (3 pieces of chicken, nice heap of greens and taters, a slice of Texas toast), and I proudly polished mine off with hardly any leftovers. Max’s y’all are amazing! Keep doing what you’re doing, and I’m so happy I was able to dine with y’all before heading back to NYC. Cheers!
Family visiting from Minnesota.
Server very friendly and helpful. Place was a bit loud but that’s ok
The place is known for their fried chicken and I was looking forward to it. Took a while but then came out nice and hot. First bite was yummy as was the second. Closer I got to bone, the pinker it became. Chewing on meat on the bone was out of question. I don’t mind juicy with tinge if pink but this bordered on bloody. Next piece was same and third piece was running blood.
Turn off big time. Server felt bad. So?
Check comes out and instead of charging for two chicken dinners, charged for FOUR!!!!!
Too bad, cuz place is kinda funky and server was nice enough. And the chicken would have been good to great if only it had stayed in fryolator a few minutes more. Sorry.
Slow service but staff was great about following up for our particular server.
Eat the chicken, it's amazingly good. Liked the electronic jukebox.
