For a 50+ dollar filet mignon to come out on a plate with absolutely no attempt at plating(I.e. a hunk of meat and a ice cream scoop of potatoes) absolutely isn’t worth the price.
Was excellent- we started at the bar and the bartenders were great and then headed to the dining room. Excellent food and great service
Valentine’s Day. Not the best time to go out to ANY restaurant, but Max’s Tavern has been our choice for two recent VD dinners. Both times they had difficulty supporting our 8pm reservation and sent us to the bar to wait 15-20 minutes. Service was fine, but since we were most likely towards the end of the rush, it was not their “A” game. On a positive note, when there is the rare but inevitable mistake, corrective measures are quick and painless. A short visit by a manager with complementary desert as an apology was a nice recovery. I love the ambiance and menu, but will try to return on a day without a V in it!
Great dinner with attentive service.
I've been several times and will chalk this poor experience up to being Valentine's day. However, I'm disappointed nonetheless. The lobster bisque was lukewarm, we were denied substituting a chopped salad for the offered Caesar salad and the steak was tough. Overall, the only benefit of going out on valentines day was not having to do the dishes.
What made it comically bad was the couple across from us who should have gone to a motel instead of a restaurant. I would have appreciated the manager if there was some attempt to rein in the ridiculous display of these love birds.
Best Valentine’s Day dinner I ever had!!! Will return.
Unfortunately, the restaurant was short staffed and our server made no attempt to hide her displeasure in having to work extra hours. She was bordering on rude. Our meals were very good. 2 in our party had the double cut pork chop. It was extremely delicious. I had the lobster risotto. It was ok. The seafood was overcooked.
They had a prime rib special.....they could not cook a medium ! Sent back once....came back almost the same .....rare as can be. First time there I got ripped off with their bone-in rib eye. Tiny cut not worth over $40. Creamed spinach has no cream....just a dried piece of cheese on top. Buyer beware
We used to love Max’s! Haven’t been in a while. It sure has changed. First of all, the menu has changed and is very small and limited. Not a lot of choices. Secondly, our service was awful. We were told four times “will get your bread right out”! We had to ask for our drinks twice. Our appetizer came before our cocktails did. My husband asked for lemon and lime in his vodka soda....didn’t have either. Asked waitress if she could bring him one. Again, asked twice and finally grabbed a different employee walking by for it. Head chef was yelling out orders in a very loud voice over and over “put a lobster on, out a filet on, over and over”. I’m sorry but when I have a chance to go out to dinner without my children with my husband, I don’t care to hear yelling. Overall, highly disappointed in the entire experience. We had heard from others that it had gone down hill but just couldn’t believe it, until we saw first hand. Very disappointing. :(
Everything was amazing! Especially the service! Ali, Michael, Matt, and the Manager Mr. Paradise know what true customer service is. They were friendly and made our night out enjoyable.
I have dined at Max's several times, and it's always been a good experience. Food is good, well Waitstaff are friendly and attentive, but not hovering. The only issue is that the noise level can be a little annoying, especially when the restaurant is full.
I brought an out of town guest who is a Ruth’s Chris devotee... He was very pleased!
One of my favorite places to go for a night out or for a business lunch. Was very sad that you no longer offer the mussels w/ chorizo. That was one of my favorite dishes.
Max's is always good, no matter which Max you visit. The food is always very good and the staff is always attentive. It's always good to go to Max's!
Awesome as usual! Never dissatisfied with Max’s for dinner.
Food was fantastic, as always. Server seemed a bit depressed and low energy which was a bit odd. Other staff who delivered food or checked on us were more upbeat and what is expected. Great night out anyway!
Only major complaint was that we weren’t seated until
After 8 for a 7 reservation. Everything else was good.
We liked Max's so much Thursday night, we returned on Saturday night. Great both nights, busier Saturday as would be expected. Server friendlier on Thursday, but then not as busy. Seafood both nights.
Food was served cold, it was sent back 2x and was still cold. The 3rd time we gave up. The mgr did the right thing and and did not charge us. The excuse was they were very busy and there was a new chef. I work in the hartford area and have eaten at all Max restaurants and usually the food is excellent . I will not go back to Max s Tavern!
Birthday dinner with my husband. Never a bad experience at Max Tavern!
Great food and another great Open Table recommendation
Always a good choice for a nice meal in a professional setting. Skilled waitstaff, good quality food and plenty of free adjacent parking. My reservation was ready on time.
It was our first time dining here and unfortunately I wasn’t to impressed with my meal. My prime rib was under cooked and very chewy. The Mac and cheese was so over cooked that the cheese was not creamy but hard, and the noodles were so crunchy due to it being over cooked in the oven.
Lastly I want to add that the waitress was very nice and did an amazing job.
My Filet Mignon and sautéed mushrooms were prepared perfectly
Food was good, reasonably priced. Service was excellent. Noise level is okay, but on the high side.
Excellent as usual! Service was outstanding. Food was delicious. Max’s Tavern never disappoints.
We went for the prime rib special. The baked onion soup and Caesar salad were both excellent. The prime rib was very good and a nice portion. The desserts were very ample in size and both excellent.
Max’s is always great.
Service was great. We had lunch and lingered. All the dishes were cooked perfectly. Thank you Max ... you are always reliable & delicious
An ideal place to meet friends for lunch or dinner. The food is always very good, and occasionally excellent, depending on what you order. Seafood, pasta dishes and salads are all well prepared and presented. A well stocked bar. Convenient free parking.
Both of us had the bone in filet., Yummy!
Cooked perfectly, nice flavor.
Chocolate cake, delicious!
Great service and drinks!
This was my fourth time in my last five visits that my steak was severely undercooked (Raw). I don't understand how a steakhouse can't get the meat temp correct. I was told that the kitchen staff was new, but it hasn't seemed to change from the "old" kitchen staff. On top of everything else, the chef at the kitchen pass, the food runner and anyone else in the "chain of food custody" should learn some basic quality control. Buy some meat thermometers or teach the staff how to tell the doneness of meat to the touch. NO EXCUSES!!
They didn't charge me for the steak on any of the four occasions but I would really like to pay for my meal and get it right.
Were seated but waited for someone to come wait on our table. Waiter asked if someone came we said no so he took our drink order. Fish and chips came and fish was raw so it was returned. They were very apologetic delivered again and was very good. Bill came and they didn’t charge us for the fish.
Food and service were excellent.. A must visit if you are in the area.
Maxs never disappoints. Unfortunately, the service on this day was not what I’m used to at Maxs. For being NYE it was early enough to where it wasnt busy, but we waited a long time for drink reorders and our check at the end of our meals. This was the reason we skipped dessert.
Food was fantastic. Service was great. Dakota was our waitress. She was one of the best servers I have ever had at a restaurant!
Christmas Eve dinner was great!
We were a group of 5 with one gluten free guest. We felt much very cared for and our meals were excellent!
