Max's Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We had an anniversary dinner at Max's Tavern. Prices there have increased considerably. I ordered simply grilled haddock with Brussels sprouts as a side. Presentation was surprisingly sloppy. Fish was definitely simple. Fillet was broken up into bits and unseasoned. Shaved Brussels sprouts with pancetta had too much pancetta and were too oily. My husband ordered the meatloaf and said it was fine. Food quality and presentation were average or below average for the price. We expected better from Max's , but may give it another try.
Max's Tavern has a nice atmosphere and is not too loud. The food is generally pretty good with a variety of options. My wife & I went for her birthday. We were given a free entree though the Max Vantage program for her birthday.
She loved her meal and my meal was ok. We both ordered caesar salads which were pretty large. We could have split one and I wish our server had spoken up as they were 9 dollars a piece! Nine dollars for romaine lettuce, some cheese, croutons, and below average dressing! It also took a very long time for our salads to come out.
I am still not sure why I was served a warm 8 oz bottle of coke when others around me were given large glasses of soda with ice. I was given a glass with ice, but it did not get cold.
There were two servers working our section together. There was 1 large party next to us and a few 2-4 person parties around us. They were both friendly and attentive when they did stop us, but were absent for the most part.
I've had great experiences at the Max restaurants, but Max's Tavern has always been a bit below par the few times I have gone there. This last experience wasn't worth the hard earned money spent even with the free entree.
Nice spot in Springfield right next to Basketball Hall of Fame. Went to dinner with my son; filet was cooked perfectly and a lovely bernaise sauce. Will definitely go again. Staff was very friendly, and prices are reasonable. Nice wine choices as well. Lively atmosphere.
I was disappointed with my recent visit to Max's Springfield. The food was lukewarm and presentation was lacking. Basically a scoop of mashed potatoes and plain filet on the plate. I ordered the creme brule for dessert and it was cold, not fresh. I do not feel I got my money's worth!
I traveled in from Southern R.I. to meet a friend from Sarotoga Springs, NY. It not only was a great central meeting spot, but my cell phone was nearly depleted upon arrive, and the staff accommodated me with bringing it back up to full charge ... as I dined and had fun.
The atmosphere is friendly, the staff friendly and knowledgeable of menu, we felt so comfortable and welcomed.
I highly recommend Max's Tavern for any occasion.
Second time in 1 week disappointed again. Had a reservation told us table was ready while in the bar then told a few minutes then they started apologizing about the wait. If they do not honor reservations then why bother taking them? I’ve been coming to restaurant for several years and must say in this past year the service and the food are becoming disappointing and overpriced. Time to look for a new restaurant to enjoy and it won’t be hard since there are several.
Max's is always consistent, dependable, and delicious. All the Max restaurants are wonderful. The staff is well-trained and want to make their customers happy. I had filet w/ crab and Bernaise. My favorite. The onion soup is a meal as well as the fried calamari. The salads are big enough for two. The food is plentiful and always delicious. My husband and I dine there often.
had a wonderful dinner with husband. it was his birthday ! We sat in bar and had shrimp cocktail (excellent) and I'm very fussy about my shrimp! The bartenders were very nice. Dinner was exceptional, a bit of a wait for dinner, but the food was worth it. Our waitress was extremely attentive and brought dessert for husband (the plate said happy birthday ) w/ wonderful crème brule in addition to a card signed by staff! It was lovely and we cant wait to go back again!
My fish and chips were excellent and perfectly cooked, as I would have cooked them at home. However, my two guests had a very similar dislike for the same rosoto dish. One friend said he would not come back again and the other was compted by the Manager and Partner and stated that he would return. I personally like Max's and will return again.
Had made a reservation; told the hostess on arrival; she immediately left without comment and proceeded to seat other people. When I asked what the problem was; she said there were others ahead of us. There was no one in sight! Finally we were seated and given menus. About ten minutes later the waiter arrived and asked what we wanted to drink. We all asked for water with lemon. I asked that an order for spinach & and artichoke dip be put in right away for a table appetizer. The waiter proceeded to then wait on several other tables; not ordering our appetizer. In about fifteen minutes he returned with the water, no ice, and took our orders. The appetizer arrived about 30 minutes later, and the main order 15 minutes after that. In all it took us over an hour and a half to have a simple lunch. The manager came to the table and inquired how our meal hnd gone; I told him very badly and explained. He returned about ten minutes later and said there would be no charge for our meal. A very busy period was blamed (Sunday afternoon at 12:30). I suspect that the real problem was we had not ordered any drinks, the main profit item for a restaurant, and were purposely ignored.
