Max's Tavern Ratings and Reviews
This is a good local go to for us and while we enjoy the food, it always comes out exactly as we ordered and the servers are always very pleasant, the service is very very slow. Its good when you want to just sit and have conversation, but expect to wait a while to order or for service.
Excellent food. The steak was cooked to perfection and the side of wild mushrooms was amazing. Drinks were very tasty albeit a little smaller than I would expect for the price.
our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and was very helpful in making a couple changes to accommodate a request for certain sides.
the only negative comment I have is that when we arrived, it did take a long time to have our server come over, and then even longer to get an initial drink order in. At one point a member of our party asked if we could just get drinks in and bread served (as she was very hungry) and the waiter said 'sure', then walked away for another 5 minutes.
However, after the initial delays, everything was very good and we enjoyed the evening very much!
I would certainly recommend Max's Tavern and hope to return there at some point
Perfect birthday dinner with my husband and son. The food and service was outstanding. Delicious perfectly cooked prime rib. The chopped salad was perfection. The shaved brussel sprouts with pancetta was unusual and delicious. Portions are pretty large and we took home doggy bags. Great value for what you get. We have been here many times and have never been disappointed. This is our go to place for birthday celebrations!
Loved the food and ambiance...my husband and I both got the salmon with pea spaezle and greens which was cooked perfectly and totally delish. All the entrees looked wonderful and different than the norm. We're watching what we eat at this time or would have tried other items. We would go back if in Springfield again.
More or less what you would expect from a good steak house. Setting and decor were fine, staff and service were both exceptionally efficient and extremely welcoming.
My wife' steak was excellent, the sides and salads were very good, the prime rib ok but not great. Dessert and coffee were very good.
Overall, a very pleasant dining experience and a restaurant we would return to.
The food is always good here. The atmosphere is always good as well. It is a must stop and eat here every time I am in Springfield. It is right next to the basketball hall of fame. Same parking lot. I had the marinated flank steak. It had a lot of flavor it was really good.
This was our choice for my graduation celebration and we were not disappointed. Server was friendly and efficient. She even brought me a special dessert treat congratulating me on graduating. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Not much in wine selections, but everything else made up for it. I would definitely go back if I'm ever in Springfield, MA again.
Max tavern was overmatched tonight. Bar was "slammed" so drinks were very slow to arrive. Waitress was stretched thin and was not as attentive as usual. Kitchen was busy so one meal arrived incomplete and one was cold. Just not at their best tonight. I'll be back because no one bats 100 percent. But lets be better prepared for Saturday nights in may!
I frequent many of the Max restaurants, but had not been to the Tavern in a little while. My entrée (seared scallops on sesame noodles) was exceedingly salty (I asked my husband to taste to confirm that it was not my particular tastes). It was sent back to the kitchen to recook the noodles, as the scallops were fine. The dish came back with no sauce on it, and so it was not salty but rather bland. All in all, not worth the $30 cost. The sauces on everyone else's dishes seemed very heavy handed. Nothing subtle about the chef's style here!
My husband and I had a fabulous dinner on a Wednesday night...just needed a night out, and Max's was terrific! We are always very happy with our dinners here. Service is excellent and food is exceptional. Steaks are always cooked to perfection and the seafood entrees that I have ordered have always been wonderful. I didn't leave even one morsel on my plate...and we even had dessert, which was excellent also, and my husband is a pastry chef so he's particular about his desserts! The cocktails were very good and the wine we chose was amazing! A brilliant evening out!
I've been enjoying the Food & Drinks @ Max's for many years, usually taking customers like
C&S Wholesale folks there to dine with the professional & most friendly restaurant folks,
who work very hard to insure your dining pleasure @ Max's.
Thanks again & I WILL be back from New York real soon.
I have to give a shout out to Max's Tavern to being so accommodating to our group. What started as a reservation for 8 turned into, after several phone calls, a reservation for 14. The staff was gracious and accommodating with each phone call. Service was fast, even considering the size of our group. The waiter was right out front about the wait on check out if we all got separate checks, and didn't bat an eye when that was what we did. He was fast, efficient and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to go back with a group...as a matter of fact, we will be, next year.
Oh. And the food was great. As always.
Another excellent experience at Max's Tavern. I not sure which was better, our server Ryan or the food. We order the tuna tacos every time and are never disappointed. Our kids had the baked macaroni and loved it. Salmon was perfectly cooked and the scallops were great. Banana fosters sundae for dessert was awesome.
Staff was friendly and attentive except for one request. There were specials of the day which we asked the price. We decided both to order the special with one of us requesting a substitution. When we got the bill the meals were more than what we were told adding $16 more to the bill. Our server explained she was given incorrect information and also there was an up charge for the substitution which was not explained. She did remove the seven dollar additional fee for both but it was disappointing that we had to ask for that. The meal was good but not worth what we paid for it
Glad you asked. I had made the reservation for my husbands birthday. When we arrived, they couldn't even find my name on the reservation list. I had requested (in my online reservation) a bottle of a certain wine I selected, to be brought to the table right away. I also asked that a small dessert item be brought at the end of the meal....as a surprise. If I had known that all of this was going to be ignored, I wouldn't have bothered. On a final note, we both ordered the filet for dinner. We have dined at Max's Tavern MANY times in the past (and have brought groups with us) and have never had a filet cooked medium come back to us dry and brown....obviously overcooked. All of this together made it a somewhat disappointing dining experience especially since it was my husbands birthday....he's 72 and a CPA.....in the past 45 years, he has not been able to celebrate his birthday because it falls during tax season.....what a let down.
We have eaten at Max's Tavern on many occasions and the food has always be 4 been excellent. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by our experience this past weekend. We made a reservation for 5PM for 2. Upon arrival, we were seated at a 2 top table in a side room with primarily 4 top tables with the exception of the 2 top we were offered. I politely asked if we could have one of the FIVE normal sized tables and was told that they were reserved for other parties. I was disappointed but understood...at least at first. By 7PM there were no parties at any of the open tables. Not one single party had come in after my request. My very tall husband and I sat squished at a half size table that was kiddy cornered to the wall in a room full of empty tables. Normally I never complain but I said something to the host who is always very gracious and he did apologize. I just think when you're dropping $46 on a steak and make a simple request it would be appropriate for the establishment to look into their availability a little further.
