Max's Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Our raw bar apps were delivered to the wrong table and had to be remade. We were brought wrong apps also, and witnesses others being brought the wrong food. My chicken was way over cooked and brussels sprouts raw...wrapped in overcooked bacon!!! Creme brûlée was burnt...yuck!
We were not impressed. For the price they charge for food it really should be served perfectly cooked.
It never ceases to amaze me the amazing restaurant this place actually is, I eat here at least once a month sometimes more, I have been going to this restaurant for years, inevitably when u go to a restaurant for this period of time, u will get a bad meal, which I would understand, every restaurant has a bad nite once in a blue moon, some more than others, with that said, I have never had a bad meal or bad service, I always recommend this restaurant, I have never been disappointed , the max restaurant group is a well oiled machine, from the owners, to the hostess, bartenders, servers, cooks, this is how a restaurant is run,
After a slightly disappointing experience at one of the other Max Restaurants the week before, we were a bit apprehensive. But the Tavern was fully in synch-with fine service, perfectly executed starters, mains and desserts. Our friends were impressed and we were delighted to treat them to a fine dinner. They really do seafood beautifully!
I gave Max's an overall ratting of 1 star due to the availability of items off the menu. My first and second choice for an appetizer was not available on Friday night. That is unacceptable in my book. The server and service was great.
Our experience at Max's Tavern was a mixed bag. When we first arrived the hostess(blonde) looked us up and down and was generally unfriendly as she walked us to a table. When we asked to sit at a different table, without eye contact she pointed out an area we could select a table. As she cleared the table of extra silverware, again, she acted like she'd rather be anywhere else. We ordered drinks some appetizers and entrees. The drink was exactly what we wanted. Oysters were fresh. One of the entrees was half great--noodles had a delicious flavor but the scallops were over cooked. The chicken penne dish was not good at all. The chicken was dry and tough and the penne was rubbery. We talked with a manager, who was pleasant, to return the dish. We really wish this had been a better experience overall.
Have made several trips to this restaurant and it is usually very good. App was great. Service was great. We each ordered separate cod dishes - both were awful. As we are not complainers we sucked it up, but should have sent them back.
I proposed to my fiancé here and they were wonderful. We had a great waitress who made sure that everything went according to plan. The ambience was just perfect and the food alone would make me sacrifice a rib bone to eat there again. I highly recommend the seafood risotto. I'm not much of a wine guy, but the waitress helped out with the choosing of the wine and we got one we loved even bought the bottle to save for the wedding. They do allow kids, but I wouldn't call it kid friendly. But as a date night or a special occasion or just for extremely good food I would recommend. Photo rev courtesy of my fiancé. I was too busy eating to take a photo of my delicious dinner
I dine here many times. The biggest issue I have, the food is NOT HOT. It's always warm.
Our server on Monday was not what I call excellent. She never told us the special, our food was plated incorrectly, and certainly not hot again.
I really wish they would be a bit more attentive and consistent with their cooking.
over the years have had fairly consistent food. Their Shrimp Cocktail is the best! But the rest of our plates which we have ordered before - were not consistent or of the quality we are used to. Probably the most disappointing was the French Onion Soup. No bread was offered or delivered. Our visit was early eve on a sunday and they were not very busy. Their prices are not inexpensive and for those prices you expect consistent quality - but it was lacking today.
In a single word - FANTASTIC! We went there to celebrate our 32nd anniversary. We asked for a quiet our of the way table and we were seated in a separate area that was out of the way and quiet so we could enjoy our special anniversary. The gluten-free was a plus and we were even surprised to be offered gluten free rolls while the rest of our guests enjoyed regular rolls. Our server was in a class of her own! Took care of us while we were there, did not rush us and took care of every need we had so much, we had to ask for nothing. a real professional server. We were even given a "Happy Anniversary" card that was signed by the staff when we were having our desserts. We are DEFINITELY going to be back.
We appreciate Max's Tavern for its consistency and congeniality. The wait staff is always cordial. The dishes are well crafted and the range of beverages is extensive. In nice weather, sitting outside on the patio is an option. Yes, the view is the parking lot and I-91, but it is still "outside". Have had their salmon on a bed of vegetables several times now-attractive, tasty and healthy. What else could you ask for? Oh, yes, a calorie laden dessert.
Well everything was good but i need to talk about the service. We are waiting waiting and waiting that day. The lady who is serving us the dishes, literally forgot one of the dish i ordered. Later when i reminded her she was like im sorry and all. I hated it
