Always an excellent choice for a business lunch meeting. Waitstaff is friendly, professional and well trained. Linen napkins, quick service and nice menu. While not inexpensive, always a good experience and good quality food and that makes it worth the money.
We had a great Easter dinner at Max's. It's my favorite place to go for a steak. The food and the service are always top notch
Easter Brunch was delightful. The food was delicious. We had the crab cake benedicts and the steak and eggs. The steak was cooked to perfection. The Bloody Mary fixings Bar was a lot of fun. Service was excellent.
Great Fluke fish
Waitress was super friendly and attentive. Always a great experience at Max’s but she was an added bonus!
Great food and great service! Steaks were served perfectly.
Very enjoyable meal and the steaks were excellent.
This was the first time I was very disappointed. Salmon was overdone, bread was crispy dry, service just OK
Have been going to Max’s for many many years and have never been disappointed!
Always a treat! Food is always good. Wine choices abound. Lively yet able to have your own conversations and enjoy the food and company. Love the place.
Food and experience was great! Really no complaint...
We are always satisfied at Max’s tavern...during the dinner hour the noise level does accelerate so we try and dine early! The staff is cordial and the food presentation is artistic with excellent flavors!
We came for Sunday supper. This visit was perfect. I could see that they had stepped up the cleanliness, attentiveness of the waitstaff, and the quality of the food. The manager was able to recommend a delicious bottle of wine, the food was served as ordered, and everything was tasty and hot. Thanks Max’s for paying attention to the details.
Our waitress Star was very attentive and gave great service! We will definitely be back again soon!
Always dependable, accommodating, and delicious. Our go-to restaurant for special occasions and company.
We had a great time! The food was delicious and the drinks were amazing... our server was very attentive. We did have dessert.. the cheesecake and Banana foster... and shared! Its definitely a hit... we will be back!
It was the first time I ever walked out of a Max without having the wonderful meal I planned for. I had reservations for 7p with a plan to enjoy the prime rib special that started at 3p. They reportedly sold out of prime rib within two hours. They said that they had started to offer rib eye as a replacement but then said they ran out of that. They were also out of one of the dessert specials. Other then offering to cover the cost of our drinks or dessert- we we not offered anything else comparable. In disappointment- we left. The staff and manager we nice- it was just a very disappointing experience
We were surprised that the special dinner advertised for 3/31 was not available when we arrived around 5:30. We had reservations so we assumed it would at that time but was all sold out. However it was replaced by a much higher priced item along with all the other food that was to be served with the special dinner. The manager explained how this happened and we could see how this could happen what with their excellent food. Max restaurants are the best!
We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon because of an email advertising a Prix Fixe special on Prime rib dinner including salad or soup and choice of dessert. 3 of us ordered the prime rib and it was very disappointing. We ordered medium and got rare and the meat was so fatty it was barely edible. The soup and salad was just ok. Dessert however was delicious. Service was good. The food here has really gone downhill. I doubt we will be back.
The prime rib special is a great deal. We stopped at the casino first and then came over for an early Sunday evening dinner. A nice combo.
Great Prime Rib Fixed Price Sunday special. Food excellent. Service a little fast... need more time in between courses. Noise level a little high. Overall we liked it and will return.
We are from CT and wanted to try the Max in Springfield as there was a Prime Rib special. Unfortunately the service and food was not up to normal Max standards. In fact, the service was very slow and the staff was very inattentive. Additionally, the Prime Rib was very average not prepared the way we wanted. The server never came over so we couldn't even send it back. I hope this is not true but it possibly could be that there wasn't the usual Max customer focus because this was a special / promotion.
We had their Prefix Prime Rib special, The prime rib lacked taste. Max Downtown’s Prime Ron taste better, We had to ask for bread
and glasses of water. Waited for 15 minutes before our desserts were served. The waitress put one of my friends packed leftovers on the floor. Only after complaining about the wait for the dessert did she send the manager. He credited our 3 drinks. I’ve dined at Max Downtown, Max Burger and Max Fish several times and never received service such as this. I also have a Max frequent dining card. Max Tavern did not make a great first impression for me or my friends .
Drinks were less than marginal. 2 oz glass of wine for 8 dollars ?
Never had a poor experience here before but our waitress on Saturday was never un-attentive. She never got us water, my drink order came back wrong, and when I got my drink it wasn’t good, never drank it. Food was cold. She took my plate so I couldn’t eat my bread. The gluten free menu was questioned to her and she just nodded. Very very odd experience, threw us off cause we are very frequent customers here
Overall our group had a great time, mostly because of the service staff, Derek and a young woman that I can't remember her name. Would have given the food five stars except my steak was overcooked and the lobster risotto was bland and flavorless.
Serve can be hit or miss. Great food and atmosphere
This is one of the best places to dine in Springfield, MA. The staff know how to make you feel welcome. The menu has enough options to please almost everyone.
The food, our meals were satisfactory. The waiter was way too long in explaining the specials and the menu. Way TOO LONG.
Most critical, to our dining experience was the hostess~no greeting, no smile. REALLY. I approached the desk and said hello, I had a reservation and gave my name. She looked down, checked something off, grabbed menus and started walking. Stopped at a table and put the menus down.
What is your criteria for a hostess??? Bring people to empty table, no other skills required.
What mood are you setting??? You're here, be satisfied.
Made a reservation, we were promptly seated at our time. Service was attentive, food and drinks delicious!
Everything and everyone were wonderful!! Can’t wait to go back
The server and the manager who really explained the wines were both excellent. The food was not as expected for the price. I don’t think I will be back for dinner but I will stop in for a glass of wine.
Should have known it would be a long night after the server asked if we would like rolls, and then he never brought them. Then there was the problems with obtaining the MAX rewards complimentary birthday entree. On the plus side, he was the first in this area to actually know how to properly decant our bottle of wine. So overall, just an OK evening.
Great place for great food. Nice staff and a terrific after work meeting place for a fine mix of people
I was shocked at how things have gone downhill at Max's. I spent the night bragging to my date about taking her to the "fanciest place in Springfield" just to be flat out embarrassed. Right from the start it was a joke. Hostess couldn't find reservation and then when seating us decided to clear the dirty tables and bring the plates with her while we were seated. Waiter has personality of a wet mop and provided service like a Hess gas pump attendant. Food was "OFF" badly. App of calamari was rubbery and greasy. Entrees were horribly overdone. Filet Mignon was well done like a hockey puck. Side of Asparagus was limp. Lobster Risotto was barely edible. The mussels were so bad my date refused to finish her meal. Soooo disappointed from what i used to say was the best restaurant in Town. I don't usually write reviews but this was such a disappointment that i had to share my experience. Honestly, close to $200 for what we received was deplorable. I hope Max Group makes changes to the Tavern or replace it with one of your other restaurants bc they should be as embarrassed as I felt.
Dear Jason, Thank you for bringing this disappointing experience to my attention, I appreciate you taking the time to share this with me. I sincerely apologize for the service and food obviously no up to standards. Nothing is more embarrassing or upsetting to me than a poor dining experience for one of my guests. I would happily make this disappointing evening up to you if you will allow me the opportunity. My sincere apologies to you and your date, John Thomas jthomas@maxtavern
Everything was good.loved our dinners .waitress was attentive and enjoyed the evening
Over rated and overpriced.

Great dinner. Service was on point!
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Everything was delicious!
